Don´t recommend this rental company. We picked up our vehicle at Bilbao Downtown office and agreed in advance to drop it off at Bilbao Airport branch. We booked a small economic car (Fiat 500). When collecting the car, we were offered an upgrade to a Citroen C3 for 15 euros extra, which we declined. Then, the attendant offered a Renault Clio for no extra cost - they obviously didn´t have our Fiat 500 available. So we took the Renault. When returning the car, the inspection took nearly 30 minutes. Thankfully we had paid a premium insurance that reduced the excess to zero, otherwise they would have found something wrong to charge us extra. Even insects marks on the front of the car were inspected!!! Not enough, we were then informed of an extra fee of 36 euros for dropping the car in a different location, even though I paid the booking in advance and it was clear during the booking process that the car would be dropped off in the airport instead of city centre. Every excuse to steal from customers, hidden fees, and not friendly service. Stay away from Rentbycar.

Avoid, Avoid, Avoid - as others have said I wish I had read the reviews first. Absolute scam of a company. They look over the returning car forensically to find the minutest scratch in order to charge you - in my case 97 euros for a scratch no bigger than my small fingernail.
Even though I have my own insurance and ultimately do not have to pay out of my own pocket I am incensed that this company can and still operate in such a deceitful way. Heed my advice go elsewhere.

Like so many others the damage scam was worked on us. There can be no justification for charging 200 euros for tiny scratches immediately adjacent to other tiny scratches.
We were more or less made to pay given pressures of having to catch out flight. They have ignored requests to evidence actually repairing the tiny scratches.
Do not use.

Car scheme. The car is handed over to the driver without anyone going to do an inspection as it should be and as the insurance was taken out by another company, on the day the car is returned the company always finds something that is not right. Therefore, there is a huge difference between collecting and delivering the car. This is how the company makes money.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Like many on here they charged me for a scratch on the plastic bumper under the car when I returned it - 86 Euro. This company is a scam, there is a reason they are cheap. You have to be very careful to make a 100% inspection of the vehicle and to take photos of absolutely everywhere on the car - including underneath the protective band in the wheelarches and the bumpers, and it's simply not possible to do this without proper lights. Simply aviod, pay a few euros more with another company and save yourself money, hassle and stress at the end of the rental. Awful company.

Abbiamo noleggiato a febbraio con amici, per 4 giorni ad un buon prezzo. Un po’ di ritardo nel recuperarci in aeroporto, ma poi macchina concordata e in ottime condizioni. Ma alla restituzione abbiamo subito una truffa! Dopo attenta ispezione all’auto, l’addetto (IVAN) ha dichiarato di sentire (solo lui!!) odore di fumo nel veicolo!! Assolutamente.falso è impossibile!!!Nessuno di noi tollera fumo nelle nostre auto, figuriamoci in una noleggiata!
A nulla è valso appellarsi alla collega in ufficio prima, e al customer care dopo:: insindacabile giudizio dell’addetto locale! Probabilmente una truffa orchestrata per recuperare 70 euro dal noleggio! Peccato

The car I was offered for rent was seriously damaged. When I returned it the company objected that there was a minor black spot on the wheel which I needed to pay for. I had no way to challenge it and avoid the penalty despite the fact that the company had no evidence that the black spot was not already there when I rented given the large number of other damages which existed when I took it.
As a customer you have no way to challenge a company like RENTBYCAR when they decide to charge you with an undue penalty. The customer service doesn’t even respond to you

Transport from the airport with no waiting time. Very friendly office staff and cars in very good condition. We took an upgrade for a symbolic price. We will repeat for sure.

Be careful, they are selling you upgrades and obsolete insurances with wrong explanations.

The BEST company that I have been rent. Fabolous car. Great experience.

Abbiamo noleggiato un auto all'aeroporto di Bilbao. Accoglienza gentile da parte del personale e auto consegnata in ordine, pulita, con poco più di 7.000 km.. Nessuna pressione per assicurazioni aggiuntive o altri addebiti. Ci è stata fornita anche la documentazione fotografica dei pochi graffi già esistenti sul veicolo. Riconsegnata l'auto dopo 11 giorni di noleggio e oltre 2.200 km, stessa accoglienza gentile dell'andata con controllo accurato, ma non esasperato, delle condizioni dell'auto che risultava perfettamente a posto. Dopo pochi giorni sbloccati i fondi della franchigia. Per noi, tutto perfetto.

Rentbycar operate a scam by low balling the rental fee but then charge you an exorbitant damages fee upon return of the car….even if the alleged damage is hardly noticeable and in all probability was in existence before the hire. I witnessed the representative take over 15 minutes trying to find a mark. I also witnessed another car returned contemporaneously that received a cursory examination. I can only assume that my car was subjected to an intensive examination as I did not take out excess insurance with Rentbycar as I had my own insurance

We were conned by this company for a light scratch which clearly was not us and you could hardly see unless your face was right up close to it. Complete frauds, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

Avoid Avoid! The cars are cheap (initially) but then they find any little scratch to charge you. Make sure you take full video of car during pickup. I I hired a car and parked it parallel throughout my rental. So no chance of something or another car hitting my sides. Return the car and they looked around until they find the most minute scratch which I couldn’t have noticed during pickup because it was so small. Yet they proceeded to charge me 90€ for it.

Fabulous experience, shuttle from airport was there a minute after we arrived, polite and friendly staff. We got a great upgraded car with Bluetooth abd sat nav for only 1 euro a day more and it only had 20 miles on it! Rent by car were fast to respond to any emails before we arrived and during the trip. Fabulous car, no issues whatsoever would highly recomend

Left me and my 70 year old mum waiting at the airport for more than an hour before the shuttle came, despite claiming there is a shuttle every 5-8minutes. I called numerous times, no answer.
When we were finally picked up by the shuttle, it took over an hour to do the paper work as the , fake friendly, staff try to sell you upgrades.

We finally got the car 3 hours after reservation time but when I returned the car 2 hours late, I got charged a full day rental.

I send numerous emails, they have not responded, well since they took my money already and despite promising to review my complaint and to send me an email the next day

Avoid at any cost. Rather than admit that they didn’t have the car we had booked they instead tried to upsell us to a more expensive car which would ‘be safer in the rain’. Then they insisted that we leave a 1000 EUR deposit despite having taken out full insurance cover. On returning the car they accused us of causing a light scratch on the inside of the door - an area that was not included in their pre rental inspection with us and therefore we cannot prove that we didn’t cause (which we most certainly didn’t) and have deducted (stolen) 275 EUR from our deposit. The staff at
this Bilbao hub were dishonest, rude and aggressive and took full advantage of the fact that they are based a good transfer from the airport in the middle of nowhere and that you are therefore extremely vulnerable.

We rented a young neat car from the Bilbao hub. The welcome and the condition of the car were top notch. Young motivated people with time for a smile. Highly recommended.

We hired a car from Rentbycar in Bilbao for a two week trip through northern Spain. The service we received was excellent and I would definitely recommend them for anyone needing car hire at the airport. Perhaps its because they're a new company, but they couldn't have been more helpful. Hector, who took us through the documentation, didn't try to persuade us to pay for lots of upgrades, and even helped us connect our phone to the car's touchscreen to use as a Satnav. We had a similarly hassle-free experience from Laura when we returned the car. There's also the added bonus that all the cars in their fleet are less than a year old. All in all a thoroughly pleasurable experience!
