In May 2026 I purchased an ex demo MGâŠ
In May 2026 I purchased an ex demo MG IM5 on a 75 plate from Chapelhouse MG in Wigan. When I viewed the vehicle I noticed various paintwork and damage to front sill and agreed to purchase on the agreement these would be rectified on collection.
In good faith I paid the deposit on the weekend prior to collection that week. This was so the Sales rep could get the vehicle in their month end sales figures. My first mistake...i came on the Tues of the following week to collect. Paint work not completed, repair to front sill not completed.
Sales rep I did the deal with had gone on leave and passed to another Sales rep who new little or nothing about the agreement. There was also no mats in the car, no charging lead and only 1 key.
Sales rep was embarrassed couldn't apologise enough. Promised me faithfully if I took the car today he would collect next week with a courtesy car from my home address in Warrington and get everything sorted.
Mistake 2....believing them, a week passed no contact, tried to ring the dealership several times no reply. Eventually got through to the sales rep a week later, apologised said he had been busy, but if I could bring car to them they would get it sorted.
At this point I had the vehicle 2 weeks, and it had a fault with the hands free not working and the vehicle was bound to the Sales rep who had the vehicle as a demo so I couldn't connect it to the app.
I told the rep you will need the car longer than a day to rectify the faults so I would need a courtesy car, also you promised me a call back with a date whereby you would collect the car and provide me with a courtesy car.
Sales rep said no courtesy cars available until 18th June 2026. I would have had the car over 6 weeks at this point.
Needless to say I was very annoyed, and spoke to the sales rep, who said he would get it sorted as I was dealing with him now.
Mistake 3.... I believed him. That Sales Manager no longer works there now. I couldn't get the car to Chapelhouse Wigan on 18th June due to work commitments. So it was rescheduled to 2nd July. I took the car to them on this date, despite emailing the sales manager, and 2 sales reps I had dealt with a list of what needed doing. I was told by the service receptionist, oh I thought it was just paintwork!!!!
The courtesy car is only available for 1 day and needs to be back!!
So you can imagine I was fuming!!!
I spoke with the new sales manager who assured me the car would be rebooked for the trim repair, they would order me a new charging cable and a key card and mechanical key. I explained to him the absolute appalling customer service I had and requested a consideration of goodwill. He said leave it with him and he will speak to the General Manager about it and get back to me.
The car had the paintwork done and new mats provided and I left waiting for contact when I could bring it back in for the trim repair, collect my charging cable, key card and mechanical key.
22nd July 2.5 weeks later still no contact from Chaplehouse Wigan. So I emailed them. The new Sales Manager replied the following day by email, no telephone call!!! I wonder why??
To inform me that unfortunately Chapelhouse dont provide gestures of goodwill, that i should have an update from Simone to update me on repairs and replacement parts and to be assured that they now have this under control and it will be rectified quickly and conveniently.
Well I am NOT reassured! This is THE WORST customer service and experience I have ever had from a dealership. They are truly appalling at customer service.
The only thing I am happy with is the car itself. CHAPELHOUSE MG WIGAN I am certainly not happy with.
I have bought loads of cars I am 53 with a wife and 5 adult children who all drive, so you can imagine how many cars I have purchased and this has to be the worst customer experience by a country mile. To put it in perspective my Wife at the same time purchased a brand new VW ID3 through Arnold Clarke. Its was delivered a few days late and was sent click and collect via Liverpool, but when we collected it, it had no charge due to a fault with their chargers. As a result and a gesture of goodwill Arnold Clarke gave her £100 and sent her a beer and wine hamper. A proper company and proper customer service.
If you are buying an MG avoid Chapelhouse Wigan like the plague they are truly the worst customer experience I have ever in my life dealt with.
