Absouletly disgusted in this Vets Practice. I was with Abbey House for my cats for around 5 years. At the start there were no glaring issues; however as time has gone on, I have realised that this practice is only out for your money. There is no concern for the welfare of your animals and their vets are clearly inexperienced or resticted by policies which require them to tell lies to obtain the highest amount of money they can.
Everytime I have visited I have sat in the waiting area anywhere from 30 minutes to 90 minutes past my appointment time. The one time I ring to tell them I will be 5 minutes late (due to traffic) they tell me they won't be able to see me. Low and behold I turned up on time and ended up sitting there for 1 hour 20 minutes beyond my appointment time.
My cat was brought in having back to back seizures. They gave us two options 1. have an MRI and potenital brain surgery which would be 3-5 thousand pounds or 2. put him on medication for the rest of his life. There was no attempt to ascertain the cause of the seizures even though we were sure he had toxicity poisioning ( we have since learnt that a simple blood test would have confirmed this). We opted for the second offer as we could not afford 3-5k. We ended up bringing him back 3 times in one day because they kept telling us we could manage him at home despite him having 4 minute seizures back to back. Finally they agreed to monitor him overnight for an extremely large fee.
They are charging £50 for a medication that is £16 online. We paid £12 for a prescription. The prescription was written for the incorrect medication. They then wrote a further prescription which was rejected by the company selling the medication because it was not legally compliant. After finding out this, it took them over a week to rectify despite several phone calls and emails telling them that my cat needed this medication because he was epileptic and had run out. Due to their delay I had no option but to pay £50 for the medication from them on top of the £12 I had already paid for the prescription. If this isn't proof of them doing everything they can to obtain your money with no consideration for the welfare of the animal then I don't know what is!
They then told us our cat needed a blood test to check the medication levels in his system. Each time we brought him in we were told they were unable to take bloods because he was 'too difficult'. They told us to go home and give him sedatory medication so they could try it again. 3 separate visits and attempts it took them to take bloods. On the 3rd attempt the vet came out and said 'I think we might need to try numbing the area because he just won't let us put the needle in his neck'. Sorry but WHAT THE HELL were you doing trying to put a needle in a distressed cats neck WITHOUT attempting this with numbing cream. They managed to take the blood this time but said 'sorry we have caught his vein so he is bleeding a lot'. He had no hair on his neck and clear injuries from the needle. He literally looked traumatised. I only realised how bad all of this was when I took this 'very difficult' cat to an alternative vets and they took his bloods without issue in 5 minutes!!
We have been complaining each time we returned to the vets about the issues with the medication they have prescribed our cat because he spits it, refuses to take it and we are worried he is not getting enough of it. We were told we just had to do it. The new vets have told us there is a tablet which is tiny, easily popped into his food and much easier to give because it doesn't have the strong smell of the liquid medication. So the conclusion is that my cat has gone through 11 months of seizures and near on death because someone couldn't use their common sense, or maybe it's because the liquid medication is more profitable for them!
To top it all off, I needed an urgent appointment for my cat who was having serious seizures again yesterday. After our past treaments and reading the reviews online, I opted for a new vet. The new vet requested his history from Abbey House, they told them he wasn't registered there! I rang up and they found him straight away and said they would send the documents over. Got to the appointment an hour later and they had sent nothing. The new vets have called expressing how urgent this is and I have emailed and still nothing. Once again showing their absolute lack of concern for the welfare of the animal.
I have seen so many other things whilst sat in the waiting area of Abbey House which absolutely disgusted me. If you want your animal to be treated with care and compassion, DO NOT choose this practice. I honestly do not know how they are allowed to stay open.

Weâve normally been happy with Abbey House but decided to leave recently due to a poor experience. The vet refused to see us to give our dog important vaccinations because we arrived 10 minutes late due to living over an hour away and being stuck in traffic. Weâve never been seen on time for any appointment, waited at least 15 mins normally and never been late before so think they could have looked at the situation to be more reasonable. We rang them on our way to explain hoping they could swap appointments round and fit us in somewhere.
The reception staff have always been helpful but we have our doubts with some of the vets at the practice now. Something has changed and not for the better. In view of the way we were treated we wouldnât recommend them anymore.
Weâve found an independent vets nearer home now so itâs worth exploring if youâre unhappy.

Absolutely shocking treatment!! We registered our pet Max after bringing him from Crete, with his pet passport. He can now be neutered and the vets told us we had to have a "telephone consultation" first. This was booked for 9am. Phone never rang (it get A LOT worse). I rang them and they eventually got a nurse to ring back. They said they didnt realise he was from crete and he had to have some bloods done or they won't castrate him saying max was "eastern european" Crete is not eastern European. Anyway they said we had to have the bloods done or no neutering. I went up to the vets that same day as my older dog was due his injections. Max had his the week before where we had to wait over 40 minutes (in the waiting area) just to be seen. I walk into the vets and the receptionist walked up and demanded I leave and sit in the car because Max needed testing for Brucella. I explained it wasn't an issue the week before but they still asked me to leave (oh it gets worse). Anyway the vet came to my car and said she had time to take Max's bloods that day as well as my other dogs injections. I agreed as we want him neutered. They then make me go through a back door (which was extremely traumatic as my two previous dogs had to be put down during covid and they refused to let me stay with them and forced me to leave them by the back door. I later found out from a parent on the school run who is also a vet nurse, that their practice allowed people to be with their pets, even in lockdown. Abbey house didnt care). Anyway, we get in there, the vet takes Max's bloods then my other dogs injections. ONLY THEN did the vet ask if we knew what the bloods were for and what the guidance is. I explained no one told us other than they were needed to castrate him. The vet then proceeded to tell me if the bloods were positive, then government guidelines are to put the dog down!!!!! I have never been so upset and disgusted in my life, had I had known, the bloods were not compulsory so I would not have had them done. Absolutely disgusting. I then got told to put my dogs back in the car to then pay. Absolutely awful practice. Only reason we are staying for now is because we have a pet plan where we may so much a month and that gets us 25% off neutering. We pay £20 per dog for this treatment. As soon as the neutering has been done we will look for another vets. Just DISGRACEFUL. To also find out during covid that other vets allowed you to be with your pets, even in lick down if they were being euthanised and Abbey house made me leave mine in the back porch, even when I begged them to do it in the porch or my car so I would be with them! I am a nurse so I was working all through covid any way. Unforgivable. We only stayed because our 3rd dog Oscar was registered with them and when we rang around some vets they said they were full. Someone at work said "even i know abbey house are a terrible vets and I dont have any pets"

This practice used to be the best in the area, when it was privately owned but since it has been purchased by a bigger group Linnaeus it has severely declined. Appointments at Morley never run to time, every single one Iâm sat waiting , theyâre shutting local small branches where you get friendly personal service like Batley, theyâve added an awful automated system for calling them where getting to speak to a person takes forever, the reception team at Morley lack customer service skills, they fail to communicate changes or delays. Problem resolution is complex and getting to speak to the right person overly difficult. Their charging is obscene, with simple claw clips as part of an existing paid nurse appt (which used to be free!) was £18, itâs madness. Whatâs sad, is their standard of care remains good and many of the nurses and long term vets really care, but theyâre working in a system that treats people and their pets as fees. I am sure their emergency services are still the best in the area as theyâre 24 hour but my experience as a regular routine appt user has been poor. Itâs so sad as this used to be an amazing practice, but the corporate cookie cutter approach is just removing any personal service or loyalty, they ask for feedback and I give it, but nothing changes. Iâm sad for the people who work there as theyâre trying to give care in a system thatâs flawed.
I brought my young one year cat in today for an emergency as I suspected he'd been poisoned as was showing some signs, he was clearly in pain, breathing very quickly and winced when I picked him up, i rushed him in and they said they'd do an x-ray to rule out hed been hit and give him pain relief l, I asked cost wise what it would be and she said for x-ray and pain relief it would be just over £300 but that's without any medication, I agreed as wanted to give him the best chance, I called back at lunch time to see if any progress and his breathing still wasn't good, they then said he'd probably need to be kept in for three day's costing over £900! I said I just haven't got that kind of money so rang blue cross who were amazing and offered to take him in, unfortunately my little boy passed, abbey tired to resusitate but no hope, my bill was £190 he died at 3.00, blue cross vets charge 75% less than any local vet's! So if you're on a low income or in benefits I highly recommend you go there. Abbey vets is all about the money and how much they can get from you not about the love or the animals ð
I first took my cat to Abbey House at Morley in late September 2025, and it has taken me months to be able to write this feedback due to the emotional impact.
My cat was seen with a facial abscess. Although the abscess was assessed, it was not cleaned or flushed, and only basic checks were carried out (weight, temperature, lymph nodes). I explained that she was in pain, struggling to eat, and had developed a wobbly gait. The vet prescribed antibiotics in tablet form, and I had to repeat that she was struggling to eat before liquid Synulox was offered instead.
The vet then began typing up notes, and the consultation appeared to be over. I had to ask again about pain relief before being handed a quarterâfull bottle of Gabapentin, with no explanation of how to administer it. When I repeated my concern about her wobbly gait, I was told it was âarthritis,â despite no diagnostic tests being carried out. I was left confused about how such a conclusion had been reached.
No investigation into the root cause of the abscess was suggested. Her mouth and teeth were not examined, and no Xâray, bloodwork, or imaging was recommended. There was also no discussion of home care or any followâup plan. Communication throughout was poor, and I felt I had to repeat the same symptoms multiple times just to be acknowledged.
Over the next few days, my cat deteriorated rapidly. She struggled to eat, drink and eventually could barely walk. I returned to the practice and saw a different vet, who suggested a CT scan, but by then, in our opinion, she was too weak and we didnât want her to suffer further. This decision was not about the cost.
In hindsight, I wish I had taken her elsewhere after the first consultation. I believed I was paying for a professional assessment, but the service we received fell far short of that looking back.
Afterwards, I tried to raise my concerns with a senior staff member. I had to call numerous times over several days, speaking to five different people, only to discover my messages were not being passed on. I eventually escalated the issue to the practice manager, who apologised and acknowledged this was unacceptable. Unfortunately, the complaints process itself added to the distress, the process advertised on the website does not reflect my experience.
I then contacted the VCMS for mediation after Abbey House failed to address my concerns. The VCMS were helpful, but their powers are limited and rely on voluntary engagement from the practice.
Abbey House ultimately offered a 50% refund as a âgoodwill gesture.â I declined, as I found this response insulting and not reflective of the issues raised.
I wish I had read all the reviews online, not only on the official Abbey House website, but also independent reviews such as Trust Pilot.
I have tried to keep personal emotion out of this review as much as possible, so readers can form their own opinion. It is my view that I paid a significant amount of money for my cat to be properly assessed and treated, and the standard of care she received was unacceptable. I have struggled to accept what happened and feel guilty about how she suffered following that initial consultation.
I hope nobody else has to experience what we endured.
Best vets I've ever had!
Will not use anyone else Morley and Kippax are our branches and both are fantastic. Service and expertise is great I take my one chance in a life saving situation on these folks all day long.
The service is great staff are lovely. Can't believe the bad reviews it's all positive for me!
I'm really not happy with the recent service provided by you.
We rang with our dog struggling to pee and being sick, and were told to bring him straight in which seems very standard practise for any of your transactions when its out of hours.
The vet saw him and decided he had a blocked intestine and "could feel something"
You then provided three options:
A sickness tablet
A sickness tablet and x-ray
Operate
Crazy how you can just come to the conclusion of operating - it is that simply to get more money off people? Looking by your Trustpilot reviews its exactly that.
We chose to go for option 2 which still ended up costing us over a £1000, the x-ray magically come back with nothing on, we then brought him back in again and cost us more money for a "separate" issue according to you, even though he had the exact same symptoms as before - so we were asked to take a pee sample which we did Saturday and brough straight in - told it would take 2 hours to get results but you still haven't even bothered to call to tell us the results.
It's pathetic, magic how you can find time to see people when they're paying out of hours and over a £1000 for nothing but when its a result you can't be arsed, the poor dog has suffered over the weekend because you can't be bothered to tell us whether he needs antibiotics or not. Luckily the dog seems to be on the mend no thanks to you.
This isn't the first time you have robbed us - charging us over £5000 of which the insurance paid out £1300 because you'd overcharged on everything by like 300% and you had the cheek to blame the insurance company.
I want a refund on the clear misdiagnosis because he clearly didn't have a blocked intestine and the vet miraculously felt something. Crazy to think you've also decided to say he has a heart murmur but your other vet that clearly didn't read the notes said he didn't. Was that just another push for even more money?
When I rang for the test result on Saturday the office staff are obviously well trained in trying to get you to bring your dog in to the emergency - are they on commission? Why would I bring my dog into out of hours when I'm just trying to find out the test results.
Quite obvious you have played this trick on a lot of people the reviews online are vile.
Took my dog to abby house my had pyometra hormone injection 1800 pounds they told me surgery 3500 pounds absolute disgrace the day after got a 2nd opinion from another vets hormone injection high failure rate surgery best option 800 pounds please ð anybody get a second opinion cause its worth it abby house play on heart strings they don't care about your pet only interested in £££££££££ please avoid this place calder vets aren't much better
Friendly vets who treated our reactive German shepherds without complaint
I regret signing up with Abbey Vets we have a 5 month old staffy and it turns out he has allergies they gave us some ear drops and told up to put him on an anti allergy diet. I then took him back to see how heâs getting on and was told heâs doing well they offered an ear swob just to be sure his ear infection was gone I think for was £30 ish not a problem, he got the all clear.
I think booked him in again because his spots here not looking any better and I wanted discuss him having some allergy tests and I was told to speak to my insurance. I explained I am not interested in checking with my insurance because if they donât cover for allergy tests then I would pay for them.
Then I asked what the process was for claiming and she said speak to your insurance, I said head will but what am I telling them what is on his records. She just told me to go speak to my insurance.
Also the working tablets they give you monthly for there subscription model are well known for triggering dogs with allergyâs and yet they still prescribed them even though they had put him on a diet.
We have had 4 visits subscribe to their monthly cover (which is worthless) and spent £300 in consultations which where with 3 different vets and little Ernie is none the better off at all. They donât seem to care about anything other than connecting with insurances companies I presume to milk them for what they can.
I will be moving to a different Vet now! One thatâs not just a corporate group pretending to small and local.
Advice for your staff as well donât always presume people canât afford treatments and read the notes on the dogs file so you donât prescribe medication that would trigger allergies. I will be contacting your separately to stop my DD
Our dog was booked in for surgery after we agreed the expensive bill verbally with the Morley branch. Took the dog to surgery on the day and, after pre-surgery meds were given, was told the bill went up and to pay the large difference. Not much we could do as meds had been given. After complaining, they had the cheek to say oh yes, the initial bill was in error (without advising us), had been adjusted by them post quote and that they could remove some unnecessary items reducing it slightly. I consider this to be unacceptable sharp practice and question why unnecessary items were added. We will never use this establishment again and advise strongly to seek out another vets. Our current one is lovely, transparently and well priced and a small family vets; exactly what a vets should be. Please avoid Abbey House if you can and request quotes in writing.
Please understand i can not fault the care they showed to our dog - Stanley
Our disappointment stems from the constant mention of money .
We visited the vets on the Thursday where they prescribed antibiotics at a cost of £300 , we then had to go back on the Friday as he had deteriorated at another cost of £54 , as this was the same issue i don't understand how this was chargeable .
On the same day he got worse so i booked him in at Morley to have more test again they mentioned the cost £2000 , which we didn't have a problem paying as he's family .
When we left him overnight i explained at the reception that we had insurance so we paid a large deposit , so he could get the test completed .
On the Saturday we received the devastating news that we had to say good bye , which we did as a family .
Again the mention of money for the funeral and urn was brought up before the procedure had even started .
And then to top it all off , they have the nerve to phone on the Monday saying there was an outstanding balance that needed paying . our complaint is they need to pay as much attention to the owners aftercare as they do the animals .

I've read the reviews about this Veterinary practice and I personally have nothing but praise for our Cleckheaton branch. Our little dog Odie was diagnosed with diabetes 19 months ago and with the vets and all staff (especially Stacey) Odie was happy and comfortable until the end. I can't praise the vet at Morley (Hazal) enough, she was so good with Odie at the end, she had tears in her eyes and the 2 nurses who put Odie's canula in where so kind, they spoke gently to Odie all the time. They couldn't do enough and where so caring and sympathetic and nothing was rushed, we where allowed as much time as we needed. When we went to collect Odie's ashes, the presentation was so thoughtful and again Stacey was kind and gentle, allowing use the time we needed to enable us to take him home. A big thank you from our hearts to all the staff involved in Odie's care from him being a puppy until his peaceful sleep.
Firstly the high number of one star reviews here speaks volumes, Iâd leave zero if that were an option
My dog ingested plastic packaging, I initially took him to my own vets to have induced vomiting procedure carried out, this was to no avail and as theyâre not 24 hr vets, they called Abbey House to discuss the matter
I was advised to attend Abbey House, leaving a period of several hours and to attend at 9.30pm
Attended and my dog was given a large bowl of food, followed by another induced vomiting procedure, again no packaging, they advised me to return to my vets the following morning for further guidance, which I agreed to.
Before leaving I enquired on whether or not I should feed in the meantime, nurse went to check with the vet and informed me, a small amount of food, bland, chicken/rice would be ok, total bill £332.57⊠for an hour, Iâm in the wrong job !
Attended my vets the following morning and agreed to have X-ray/ultrasound procedure costing £515, I returned later in the afternoon to collect my dog and was told the procedure was inconclusive as he had food in his stomach, I told my vet Abbey House had advised a small amount of food was ok, he looked puzzled,
He then showed me the vet report from Abbey House which stated NPO, another term for Nil By mouth ! In total contradiction to what I was advised.
I was then told the procedure would have to be repeated the following day on an empty stomach, meaning Iâd be charged twice, which was completely avoidable.
I raised a complaint with Abbey house on 16th September, stating I was seeking reimbursement for the repeat scans due to their contradictory advice.
I didnât receive a response until 2nd October and that was only to say theyâd not spoken to both people âdue to shift patternsâ
What ? In 16 days ? You couldnât make it up.
Told Iâd receive a response by Friday 10th October âŠ
This didnât happen and I had to chase it up the following Monday, to then receive an unsatisfactory response and claiming their advice to me was correct, despite stating the complete opposite, to which they added they couldnât comment on the report sent to my vetâŠ
Hmmm I wonder why ð€
I Emailed them to ask if this was their final response, with no satisfaction
Needless to say Iâve now escalated this to the VCMS Veterinary body
UPDATEâŠ.
After involving the VCMS which dragged on until January
Abbey house still stand by their contradictory account and refuse to reimburse me for their incompetence resulting in the need of the additional X-ray/ultrasound and VCMS advised my only option would be to persue them via the legal route, which Iâm currently looking into
Our beautiful female boxer was very poorly and we took her to Abbey House vets in Morley. They explained everything to us she was in heart failure. They were wonderful with her and us very caring. My son said his goodbyes and I stayed with her. I was talking to her and stroking her head and she slipped away no pain for her. From the Receptionist to the Nurses and Vet they were so gentle with her. I thank them from the bottom of my heart. I have picked her ashes up today she was cremated on her own.
Tinys second post op appointment with Scott. So caring and loving to her and made me feel like she was important and he took the time to listen to my concerns about her anxiety.
Scott was also the one who admitted her for the op and he was amazing then. Thank you for the fantastic service once again
I really like Abbey House it's the reason why all my pets, past and present, have been treated, checked, and in occasion euthanised there. A joyous place where I've taken kittens for their first injections; a considerate place when I've needed consoling, as well as plenty in-between.
This high standard of service comes at a premium which is to be fully expected, and if it keeps the services running at such a high standard then I'm glad to be charged.
Profiteering however is a step too far. Charge for the service, fine. £30 charge for medication, ouch. Quick check online..... Same medication available for £10 but you need a prescription. Abbey House charge £20 for a written prescription so you can buy the medication elsewhere. How is that fair? I had to buy two drugs as well. £40 of my £130+ bill child realistically been saved. Funny how it worked out to be the same price, so absolutely no saving. I expect a mark up. You can't exist without making a profit. But this is capitalising on an animal in distress, and emotionally/financially abusing the needing animals owner. I'll be copying this review into Google and trust pilot since you care about the feedback. I hope it urges you to change your profit margins to be as ethical as your care giving.
DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE.....ALL ABOUT MONEY
We had to have our fur baby put to sleep and the staff at abbey house were amazing,it was a terrible ordeal for us loosing our beautiful cat ,the vet treated him with compassion ,the receptionist was lovely and understanding,I have nothing but praise for the staff at Abbey house Batley and won't hesitate to use them again
