Excellent all round

Easy to navigate website, really good range of fish, could add to my order. Delivery was excellent and ive used this courier before through another well known company but the Saturday delivery was certainly better. The fish quality was second to none and ive never had corys individually bagged before (the other company I used always grouped and their fish were tiny in comparison). All arrived really healthy and no losses. Really clear unbagging/aclimating instructions. Im used to doing slow aclimating but im very impressed! After using the other well known company for years and after having the last 4 shipped orders of fish always having a death - plus they've selected the wrong fish recently on top of fish death in the bag, im converted to Abyss - just wish id switched 3 months ago.

Excellent customer service

I have just ordered some replacement plastic plants for my father-in-law's aquarium, for a second time. I initially phoned up to check what I had previously ordered (the FIL wanted similar plants). The lady I spoke to was extremely helpful, looked up my previous order on her computer, and provided details. I subsequently ordered plants online at lunch time, and paid for next day delivery. I was kept fully informed of the progress of my order, and was notified of a 2-hour delivery slot by the courier. The plants were delivered next day, within the 2-hour slot, along with a short note thanking me for my custom and support, and a small bag of Haribo Supermix (nice touch). This is an excellent business to deal with and I will not hesitate to use them again.

I purchased £240 of fish over two


I purchased £240 of fish over two orders. The first one was fine. Unfortunately the second order I had an issue where they sent a pleco which cost £29.99 and was just over a cm in length. This was below what was stated on their website.
The pleco disappeared from the tank due to its size.
I contacted Abyss who basically called me a liar and asked me to take pictures. How on earth can I take pictures of a fish that disappeared due to its size?
I replied to their email and no response. I then sent a follow up and again no response.
They obviously don't care if you have an issue and they provide fish that are smaller than what's stated on their website and fob you off and don't respond.
There are plenty of other places to purchase fish from.
I wouldn't waste my time with this company. They are just after your money and provide you with substandard products.
AVOID! AVOID! AVOID!

I posted a review on their website which has been removed.

I have sent further emails and requests for them to contact me which they have ignored.
This is disgraceful and disgusting customer service.

Something is very wrong with these fish

We bought 12 XL cardinal tetras and 6 sterbai corys from Abyss about 2 weeks ago now, and placed them in a 90 L quarantine tank (using cycled filter media) with plenty of hiding spots, soft sand substrate for the corys, and some live plants. After a few days we lost one cory, then another, and now we're down to 10 cardinals and only 3 corys. They haven’t really shown any obvious symptoms so we've been treating systematically with antibacterial, antifungal, and two different anti-parasite medications but the losses have continued. We had not started meds before the first fish passed away, and we have been testing the water regularly (no sign of ammonia or nitrite, pH 6.7 ish, hardly any nitrate) and checked carefully that meds (all Esha) we're safe for corys. These fish were all in the same tank at Abyss. I now wonder whether we will be able to get any of them through quarantine safely. I am very glad I ignored the advice of the Abyss employee who told me not to quarantine and that they'd taken all the necessary precautions - had I gone along with that whatever this issue is would now be in my display tank with my other fish.

I am really disappointed. I thought Abyss were a reputable aquatics retailer. I guess that "advice" not to quarantine should have been the warning sign to walk away and go elsewhere. I won't be buying fish from them in future.

Update: Antibiotics from my fish vet (Ashleigh vets) seems to have halted this for now. This to me suggests that these fish were infected with a bacterial illness when I purchased them.

The pleco was beautiful but died within


The pleco was beautiful but died within 24 hours, took to 2 aquarium shops and both confirmed was heavily pregnant would have had very swollen belly and should not have been sent out as the stress was too much. Contacted customer service twice told me it had been squashed and not eggs this is not true, phoned again raised as complaint 10 days ago and nothing. She was alive less than a day , I have plecos and never had this happen before and no response from company. They have also removed my feedback from their website and left positive ones from 2023!

Bought 14 fish

Bought 14 fish, 2 died within 12 hours of putting them in. Each day more died to where we are left with 2 and one of those looking grim. £65 later to rectify, blamed it on a chemical contamination saying it was from air freshener or hand soap on hands even though I have done this process and seen them before. Nothing used near the tank. Placed 2 fish from else where and all fine so far. The PH was testing fine, temp was 26 and all good. No explanation but continued to blame it on chemical issues. Would t waste your time or money and would go else where. My brother had the same issue with this shop where they drained thousands off him on marine fish and there was an issue every time.

First time ordering fish on line so was a little apprehensive. Due to there being no marine fish suppliers in Lincoln any more and knowing about Abyss from being a long time member of the Ultimate Reef forum, I thought I'd give them a try.
I was not disappointed. Excellent communication throughout to the point of despatch and after. Great instructions in the box. As it's a little colder I added extra time to each stage of the unboxing. Lid open an inch to let in some light for 15 minutes, bag floating with lights out and covered with a towel for 1 hour, water acclimation done over 2 hours, added fish to tank with light off, put on dim lighting an hour later. Both specimens were healthy and active and fed on frozen food that evening and the day after. Out swimming and not hiding and happily swimming amongst the current occupants and are also taking dry food. Thank you.

The way to sell fish online.

Firstly the whole process was simple and well communicated. Then when I received my package the level of care that they had put into the packaging was second to none. Individually bagged and placed into an insulated box, securely sealed with clear instructions on how to open the box in the least stressful way possible for the fish
just excellent. The zebra plecos arrived in great condition and I’ve not had one issue with them.

One fish did die its early days yet to see if any others survive

Bought two gourami

Bought two gourami, one dead next morning, shop said my 6.4ph was to low i do not use any chemicals to alter it, gourami like low ph. The shop should in inform people with low ph not to by from them.

You claim your pH was 6.4, even though we tested it at 6.0, which is ten times more acidic than the shop’s pH 7. Funny how the number drifts upwards in your review. So you must have listened to what we were telling you, despite arguing the contrary, and then probably Googled it to confirm we were right – hence the magically “improved” pH number you used in the review. That’s why the fish wasn’t replaced and why you were told to improve your pH and KH.
Rewriting your own water test to make the problem look smaller doesn’t help you, it simply proves that if you didn’t understand it before, when you were being argumentative, Mr “I breed fish, I’ve kept fish for years!!!”, you certainly do now. The most probable cause of the fish’s demise was far too much change in far too little time.
You left the shop angry because you thought we weren’t honouring our guarantee, but since then you’ve clearly realised we were in the right, proven by all the number-fiddling. Yet you still leave a bad review. Numpty. Trying to damage a business because your dummy is wrongly still on the floor

The other fish is genuinely lucky to still be breathing, traumatised by the carnage it saw. It’s been relocated to excellent water at a secret location, because it is believed that Mr, I Breed Fish was a real threat to its survival.

Called Abyss no refund/credit was offered just was told to test my water once tested and showed evidence all is OK with my tank they went on the berate the shop i got my water tested from due to the testing machine they use. 10 years as a reefer never came across such an issue before. appalling customer service will stay away and recommend others to do so too. I wish i read the negative feedback before ordering.

Handsome Devil!

Handsome barely describes this gorgeous chap!
Big googly eyes! Deep orange turning to red lovely markings.
Beautiful fish and he’s just a baby holds certain promise of even better to come. I’m delighted with him. Also received four lovely Orange Lazer Corrie’s very good size travelled very well. All well packed with Abyss care and expertise. I have used this shop before and will again. Their is no other mail order to beat them.
Simply the best!!! Highly Recommend👍👍❀👍👍

Excellent service

I ordered some plants online, delivered the following day. I even had a phone call as one of my plants was difficult to locate so they added some extra. The package was packaged so well and no damage in transit. I honestly can’t recommend this place enough thank you.

Small love bloodworms

I ordered 30 packs of small live LPbloodworms from abyss aquatics and I must say I have never been more disgusted and disappointed with a product as I was with these. The bloodworms were black and half dead when they arrived, the water had small hard bits of something in it and absolutely stunk to high heavens and because of the smell of them my fridge now stinks of the water as well even though the packets haven’t burst. I am absolutely disgusted by the product and the fact it took so long to receive the bloodworms as well. I would recommend to NEVER order bloodworms form ever again. If I could give less than one star then I would have.

Great experience and gorgeous fish!

I ordered livestock and other products from Abyss on Sunday. I changed my order several times using their “Add to order” function. All products arrived together and in perfect condition, as did the livestock. I followed the instructions provided by Abyss and the livestock have taken well to my tank. They are beautiful fish, exactly as described. The shipping was easy and fast. I’ll shop here again.

Dead Fish - No Credit

I received 5 fish from Abbys. I followed the instruction as provided. 4 fish survived. One fish died within an hour of releasing it into the tank. Abyss would not provide a credit or a refund. have bought fish online and at high street stores over the past 10 years. This is the worst customer service I have received thus far. I would not reccomend buying tropical fish from this store

Great quality marine fish from Abyss

I've ordered 6 fish from Abyss now and all have been way better quality than my LFS. Even so called difficult fish like leopard wrasses have been great and eating frozen food within 24 hours. I've also called the team on a couple of occasions and always had great advice.
