Brian is a good teacher. Easy to understand how breaks things down. But I've been a member for 2 years. Didn't renew my subscription for a third because I probably made it through half of the lessons, if that in both years. There's no way to save the lessons you didn't make it through for that year so when your years up you just loose them. People learn at a different rate of speed and I feel like im being penalized for being to slow to make it through all the lessons in a year. So Brian you make a way to save the lessons you dont make it through instead of loosing them you will have my business again. I enjoy your lessons but I'm not paying for something and only getting half of what I paid for.

Great teacher. Original music, down to earth and to the point. Serious guitar community. I've progressed hugely in the two years I've been with Brian. Grab your guitar and start to really learn it! gingi UK

J'ai commencé la guitare il y a 20 ans avec un gros trou d'une petite dizaine d'années où je grattais un coup de temps en temps. Je n'ai jamais eu un niveau de dingue mais j'ai tout de même fait de la scène dans 3-4 groupes différents.
Inscrit sur active melody depuis moins de deux mois, la vitesse de progression est juste inespérée. Les cours sont extrêmement bien expliqués. Ils permettent progressivement de saisir le pourquoi de chaque note et invitent a la compo ou l'impro.

Je n'ai jamais vu ça, la clarté de ce qu'il explique et la logique qu'on retrouve au fil du temps sont juste invraisemblables. Pour ne rien gâcher, les compos qui servent de cours sont souvent très plaisantes et reprennent des plans classiques qu'on retrouverait dans des reprises.

Le tout est pas mal orienté blues/r'rb avec parfois un peu de country.
Il y a par contre peu de fingerstyle mais on peu quasi tout jouer au doigt si on préfère.

I’ve been a guitarist for about 35 years and I can honestly say Brian from Active Melody is on a different level to other online teachers. I’m from the Uk and probably one of the original members from his website. I’m from the UK and over the years I’ve inherited Brian’s style of blues so much so that other accomplished guitarist who are my friends regularly ask me what I have just played and to show them. Unfortunately for Brian it’s my hidden secret and I don’t tell them I’ve learned to play proper blues guitar in the Nashville style (as many other styles) and from a personal perspective I feel I’ve brought blues guitar to a whole new level taught by a truly great and definitely under rated top talented guitarist. Brian is soooooooo good at teaching I find myself refreshing the screen on a Friday night/saturday mornings o looking forward to his next lesson. Ultimately, I thought I was a good guitarist but after studying Brian for years and managing to copy a lot of his style, my guitar playing is now at a level I could only dream of. Active Melody is that good and as long as you put in the effort, you as well as your friends will be in awe at your guitar playing

I have tried some of the popular online lesson sites and find that I'm most impressed with ActiveMelody. The genre is mostly country, blues, jazz, and bluegrass, but there are some rock and others. Brian's approach and teaching style are superb. His method is straightforward, easy to follow, and he stays on task, contributing to the lesson's effectiveness. Brian's lessons are not about just learning a song or piece but are designed for you to enhance your playing by teaching you valuable improvisation skills. In other words, as the old saying goes, “give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish, you you feed him for a lifetime.” Brian does not just teach the content but teaches why the content works and opens your eyes to expand upon the content by learning improvisation, therefore making you an overall better guitar player.

You can generally find the first part of the lessons on YouTube. With a paid premium membership, you get access to the second half of the lesson, tablature, sound files, backing tracks, and a slow walk through, which contains interactive tablature.

Premium membership also allows access to some theory courses, CAGED, lead guitar, and micro lessons, which contain tablature and are designed to be brief yet, also expanding your overall improvisation abilities in a bite size lesson.

There is a wealth of content on the site, with more being added weekly. Compared to the other popular sites I've tried, ActiveMelody costs far less and has been so much more effective and rewarding for me. I found myself getting lost in the structured content offered by the others, then ultimately losing interest. With ActiveMelody, I find the lessons interesting, easy to follow, and offering much more than just going through the motions of a standard online lesson.

I strongly encourage you to give ActiveMelody premium membership a shot. I think you will find Brian's approach is different from most and much more effective. If ActiveMelody had the option to be a lifetime member, I would do it! For now, I will keep renewing every year. Well done, Brian and ActiveMelody!

Extremely clear and helpful content the quality of which is top notch. My playing and understanding of the guitar has come on leaps and bounds. Each lesson tends to reinforce what you have already learnt. I’ve had courses with the two major guitar learning sites but Active Melody just seems to be a better fit for finding your own pathway through blues and jazz. So much content and knowledge is given away for free but the premium tools and extras really make a difference to take your playing to a higher level. Always interesting and the lessons have plenty of bite

I've been a member for about 1 1/2 years. Great instruction. High quality videos and tabs. Not a song learning site per se, but is oriented to learning how to solo. I absolutely love the site and it really has enhanced my learning process. I will definitely renew again.

Awesome, sound guitar instruction. I'm a professional guitarist and I subscribe. I've learned a tremendous amount, and I even refer my students to the site.
