Thoroughly recommend Petra and the wider Adolescent Dogs team
We booked our 8 month old show cocker Albie in with Petra for 3 weeks to help improve his impulse control and loose lead walking during adolescence as we were really struggling to walk him. He was so distracted by his environment - other dogs, birds, people, leaves etc that he simply would not listen to us. During the 3 weeks we had lots of contact from Petra with weekly updates on Albieâs progress and some lovely photos. We were very reassured that he was having a lovely time as well as training his impulse control and in lots of different environments.
When we picked Albie up, we had a 2 hour walking handover where Petra showed us the strategies that she had been using to engage him and it was obvious that they had bonded nicely and Albie appeared to be much more responsive. The real test was always going to be once we brought Albie home, and 48 hours in, we have found him to be calmer, more responsive, and more engaged with us. This is particularly noticeable on his walks where for the first time he is walking with a loose lead and is much more responsive even around distractions.
We were anxious about sending Albie away and really missed him but were reassured by Petraâs regular updates and are so pleased with his early progress that we would not hesitate to do it again and thoroughly recommend Petra and the wider Adolescent Dogs team.
Excellent programme and support for dog training
We joined adolescent dogs in 2024 for their assistance dogs programme. In just under two years we have now passed our public access test with our 3year old dog, which will allow us more independence and to safely navigate public spaces.
Their programme is structured, clear and supported by a large online resource library, weekly online meetings to answer members questions and concerns, as well as face to face group workshops again tailored to individual needs.
The trainers are friendly, knowledgeable and caring, with a deep understanding of disability and an even deeper understanding of dogs and their behaviour.
The support we ve received on this journey has been amazing and I would recommend adolescent dogs to anyone wanting to improve their dog training techniques or self train an assistance dog.
Couldnât ask for better
My 1 year old Lab spent 3 weeks with Petra recently which was his first time away from home. Petra made him feel instantly at ease, he made himself at home, was relaxed, comfortable and confident and gained so much from his time with her. He came home much improved and calmer. Petra was always on hand to give updates, advice and the most amazing photos throughout his stay. He canât wait to come back again

Adele Harrison is a credit to Adolescent Dogs. I am very happy with the training she gave my little Schnauzer. His confidence is much improved as is his house training. He will now jump into and out of the car.
Her weekly updates and videos were interesting and comprehensive.
We canât say enough wonderful thingsâŠ
We canât say enough wonderful things about Jenny and Mike! They took our puppy, Perri, for 2.5 weeks of residential training and the transformation has been incredible. From the moment we met them, it was clear how knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely caring they are with dogs.
During her stay, Perri learned all the basics and came home with great manners, improved focus, and so much more confidence. Jenny and Mike kept us updated throughout the process, which gave us total peace of mind knowing she was in such capable and loving hands. Itâs obvious they treat every dog like one of their own and truly care about setting both the dog and the owners up for long-term success.
Weâre absolutely thrilled with the results and so grateful for the time, effort, and dedication they put into Perri. We would highly recommend Jenny and Mike to anyone looking for professional, kind, and effective residential dog trainers. Thank you both for giving Perri such a fantastic start!
Charlotte was great with our SpringerâŠ
Charlotte was great with our Springer Barney. We are so grateful for her patience and guidance. We still have a little way to go but the foundations are there to work on. Thanks Charlotte x
I cannot praise Adolescent Dogs highlyâŠ
I cannot praise Adolescent Dogs highly enough. First, and most important, they cared for our dog as if she were their own. Katie (our trainer) was kind, thoughtful, responsive and managed not just to train Biscuit but also helped us really understand her and some of the underlying reasons why we'd hit a bit of a brick wall with our efforts. We received daily updates and it was obvious from the first instant that our dog was not only learning a lot but having a great time too. The AD team is responsive, the materials they shared with us are really helpful and practical (but not preachy), and the aftercare was excellent. Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for this kind of service.
Perfect for me and my pup ð¶
Twyla Boo my beautiful 5 month old cocker spaniel puppy went for her 2 week residential training Stay with Charlotte. Helping her to have the best start on her journey to become my assistant pup ð¶
Charlotte is an amazing trainer ð. So supportive, kind and caring. Answering all of my questions, queries and worrying. Understand my disability and emotional needs.Â
Tywla Boo training was tailor made to help with the areas I and Twyla Boo are struggling with. One being her barking none stop in the car which she is now so quiet now. it is amazing achievement and my ear are so happy ð.Â
Charlotte concentrate on these areas and more.
Tywla Boo learnt and improved so much it is an amazing amount of growth. It was wonderful to see her progress along the way with photos, videos and messages â€ïžÂ this really help with me coping with her been away from me.
I could not recommend enough. I have never felt so seen or heard . The amount of encouragement and support you get is hard to put in to words. Me and Twyla Boo are so thankful and grateful ð. Â
4 week residential training
Our puppy stayed with Lia for four weeks. Lia was wonderful and gave us regular updates and videos and it was amazing how much Toby progressed in that time. He is now a pleasure to be with and fits in with our family beautifully. I would highly recommend Adolescent dogs and plan to book stays in future for top up training.
Fabulous assistance dog training
Weâve benefitted from the assistance dog programme, using the videos, the in person assistance dog workshops, the question and answer sessions. All of this along with accessible support with all aspects of training right from the day our puppy arrived through to passing the public access test. Very well presented videos, confidence building workshops. Mike was fabulous with my daughter, got a great rapport going, supported her to engage and achieve super work with her dog. Excellent value for money, making high class training available to all with the various different training options such as online, face to face, workshops, support groups, residential training.
Highly recommended, would absolutely choose Adolescent Dogs every time
We would give 10 stars if we could!âïž
We cannot thank Adele enough for the incredible care, professionalism and kindness she showed our Labrador puppy during her 3 week residential assistance dog training stay. From day one she went above and beyond, sending regular updates, checking in and making sure we were always completely at ease.
What truly sets Adele apart is the compassion she showed towards our autistic daughter. She took the time to involve her, reassure her, and help her feel confident with her future assistance dog. That level of understanding and patience is something we will always be grateful for.
Our puppy has come home beautifully trained, calm and clearly loved. The progress she has made is remarkable and itâs all thanks to Adeleâs dedication and expertise.
She is an absolute superstar and we would recommend her to anyone looking for a trainer who is not only highly skilled but genuinely cares about the dogs and families she works with.
Thank you for making such a positive difference not only to our daughterâs life but us as a family ð
Special thank you to Jenny ð«¶ð»
From over excited pup to a clam well behaved pup who loves to train
I have a lovely black Lab puppy called Mufasa, who like most young labs is like a bouncing ball. Iâm wheelchair dependent and hadnât trained a pup in over 20 years. I knew training Mufasa was going to be a challenge and that I would need help. A friend recommended Adolescent dogs. I made enquiries and signed Mufasa up to a 4 week residential training stay. Mufasa went to live in the home of his trainer Charlotte and her family. I had key areas I needed help with such as recall, loose lead walking next to a wheelchair etc. each day Charlotte sent me photos and videos of Mufasaâs progress. Under Charlotteâs care Mufasa flourished and absolutely enjoyed his training and made a big transformation, Mufasa was engaged, and really keen to learn new things. Mufasa came home a happy settled pup who put all his training into practice.
On Saturday Mufasa returned to Charlotte for his next residential training stay, this time Mufasa is there for 6 weeks, when I was waiting for Charlotte to arrive Mufasa spotted her and went crazy with excitement but as soon as Charlotte spoke to Mufasa he calmed down and trotted off with her for a walk and didnât even look back to say Goodbye. Charlotte sends me updates everyday and treats Mufasa as if he was her own, he absolutely LOVES her. Mufasa will be with Charlotte until the end of November and then he will return home and we will continue his training at home. Iâm so impressed with Charlotte and Adolescent dogs that Iâm planning Mufasaâs next Residential stay in the new year.
Assistance dog nala
Adolescent dogs, is absolutely amazing! I sent my 6month old bernedoodle to them for a 3weeks residential stay and she was paired with a trainer called charlotte, my bernedoodle had tonnes of energy, she was easily distracted, overly excitable and was incoherent at times, and would pull like hell on a lead!, but now, i have a puppy who dose infact listen, walks to heel, and has a much less excitable greet with people, she is so much more "chilled" and to be able to do all this in 3 weeks sounds crazy but it's true! She is already booked in to go back to charlotte next year, but this time for 5weeks! You recieve regular detailed updates from the trainer and the after care is 2nd to none, they have group chats, and are always there to help in anyway they can! 5 stars isn't enough!
Love the assistance dog program
I have recently completed the owner trained assistance dog program with my sprocker . I have really enjoyed the program and people often comment how well trained my dog now is. The members accademy has hundreds of videos to watch and practice and then the trainers review your videos you have recorded and issue certificates if you meet the criteria. If you donât meet the criteria, or even if you have some questions they are always happy to help you improve. The videos are good quality, and informative. They have weekly live q and a sessions on zoom for members where you can ask personalised questions about elements you may need help with - which can be award based questions or even general dog training questions. After the lives sometimes people hang about for an informal friendly chat and Iâve really enjoyed getting to know the trainer and the other members well through this. I would really miss this part if it was ever to end! I look Forward to it each week.
I enjoy the monthly challenges on the members fb group - a different video each day with something for you to practice and record and sometimes there are even prizes to win for those.
I have made lots of friends through adolescent dogs and have improved my own training so much too, I recomend them to everyone I speak to about dog training, especially for the assitance dog program - which appears to have much higher standards than many other assistance dog companies , Iâve met ADUK dogs who are no where near as well trained as adolescent dogs dogs âºïž
The owners are approachable and will always help you out when you need it.
The best trainers and academy ever!!
I joined adolescent dogs in February 2024 with my Japanese Chin Keiko~Mae. We joined on the assistance dog program as I have complex medical health diagnoses and mental health impairments including autism and ADHD. Jenny and Mike are by far the best trainers I have ever had encountered, the support is there all the time and no question to big or too small or silly for that matter to ask. The weekly live Q&Aâs with Mike are another fantastic way of getting help and support with any problems you are having or even to share your happy wins. Training is never linear, itâs full of ups and downs but believe me the support really is there for you. There is no rush to get your dog to an award level, itâs all at your pace and importantly your dogs pace which takes a lot of pressure off. Keiko took her final PA test with head trainer Mike on the 20th August 2025 and passed with flying colours. Mike was so reassuring and puts you at ease and takes away all the anxiety of the test and will never set you up to fail. I am so proud of my little girl who is now just shy of 22 months old to get to such a high standard of training and I really could not have done it without Jenny and Mike. Thank you so much for everything, you are both so passionate in what you do and I literally cannot thank you both enough â¥ïž
Hazel and Olive had a marvellous time!
Hazel and Olive, both Labradors, are part of the Adolescent Dogs Assistance Dog training programme. Hazel is 2 years old and recently passed her Public Access Test, and Olive is 9 months old and working towards her Silver Award.
When we had to travel to France to help my Mother in Law after the death of my Father in Law, we had a real dilemma about what to do with the dogs. We couldn't take them with us, but we really didn't want to put them in kennels.
Adolescent Dogs provide fantastic home based residential training. I chose to send my dogs to Charlotte, who I know and trust. She is totally committed to positive training methods and works really hard to understand the priorities each owner has for their dogs.
As a fully trained Assistance Dog, I just wanted Hazel to have a good holiday and use her skills in public access situations. Olive is a sensitive and gentle Labrador who likes to assess situations before rushing in. So I wanted her to get some really good practice with her Silver Award skills and preparing for her temperament assessment.
Charlotte worked really hard with both girls, making sure that they had a great mixture of working time and down time. I loved seeing that they got to snooze in her lounge in the evenings and have cuddles with the family. That's what is so fantastic about the residential training - they really do get 24/7 training and care. My dogs were treated as if they were Charlotte's own dogs.
I can't fault the experience my dogs had. The communication was excellent, with daily updates, photos and videos. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Charlotte as a trainer.
Natalie is absolutely AMAZING!!
Natalie is absolutely AMAZING!!!
We truly loved watching Luna flourish under her guidance and expertise. While it was difficult to send away our pup, we are very pleased with Natalie's fantastic training results.
Brilliant experience!
I have used the online adolescent dog videos to train my dog since he was 4 months old and he is now 2 years old and just passed his assistance dog public access test!
I love the online videos, support which can be accessed through the trainers and awards which can be earned through different tasks.
Highly recommended
I joined the owner trained assistance dog programme. The level and quality of training videos, the wide range of topics covered and the face to face sessions are excellent. There are also online Q&A sessions which are flexible, informative and very welcoming. I have been particularly impressed at the level of understanding and compassion the trainers have for people who may need additional support because of physical, mental or emotional reasons. I would, and regularly do, recommend them for anyone who wants some support with everything from puppy training through to assistance dog training. They are fantastic and their support has allowed me to reclaim a large part of my life.
Brilliant!
Raife had a two week socialisation stay with Verity, going to her immediately I collected him from his breeder. He then went back a week after his 12 week vaccination. Verity is simply brilliant. Not only did Raife come back with fantastic training, throughout both his stays I received daily updates and twice weekly written reports plus photos and quick messages too. Clearly the communication that Verity had with me is replicated with the puppies. I cannot praise either Verity or Adolescent Dogs highly enough. Verity trained my other Labrador, Nelson, nearly six years ago and I knew she would be perfect for puppy Labrador Raife.
