Just leave AIB - everyone. It is no good for anything

Paid off a loan early after some payemnt issues with it, but I resolved it with them, or so I thought. I considered it gone as it was due to expire in February and I had cleared it. Discovered today that my overdraft facility was cancelled and nobody understood why when I rang them. Seems they charged € 3.31 interest on the paid off loan linked to my current account with the overdraft facility, They sold it off to some debt collector agency... I kid you not over 3.31 euro. Got shouted at that they had written letters and called about the outstanding debt many times but I didn´t understand what they were talking about.. I simply couldn´t work out what it was until I saw the 3.31 outstanding (had no letters). Seriously EVERYONE needs to leave this bank, it deserves no customers at all. I am with them since 2002.. and this is how I got treated. Horrible - AIB vanish from the face of the earth you are not worthy.

Information should be clear from the start

I am very unhappy about my recent experience with AIB banking. Having gone over the procedure for withdrawing funds from my fixed term savings account when I tried to take out funds the app would not let me .
To be fair to them they did phone me back and tried to sort it out but we both understood that the fault was with the person who had opened my account who forgot to explain the very specific terms of this account .

Software and customer support failure

Tried to transfer funds between aib account and another bank.
Everything seemed to go fine, a few days later with no transfer in sight tried to call their support line for assistance and after 10 minutes trying to work my way through their pointless recorded messages I get told yeah it didn't happen just try again and hung up on.
Any bank in this country has as pitiful security measures as ulster bank had, the amount of technical debt, and general staff incompetence and rudeness is nothing short of astounding.
They do not deserve to be in business

Trying to move your mortgage to Allied…

Trying to move your mortgage to Allied Irish Banks is extremely painful.

The amount of duplication they expect on your side is ridiculous, and the number of mistakes they’ve made internally is hard to believe. I’m now on my third letter of offer because of their own errors. They acknowledge the mistakes, but that doesn’t make the process any easier.

At this point, I’m seriously considering sticking with Bank of Ireland. A difference of less than 1% just isn’t worth the hassle of dealing with AIB’s mortgage team.

Most brutal app around

Most brutal app around. On most attempts to access online, it takes 10+ inputs of reg. and PIN. Have deleted app and re-intalled numerous times. perhaps they could just copy or buy Revolut app?

AIB (NI) - The worst app I cannot use…

AIB (NI) - this must be the worst banking app I've ever tried to use. I have little confidence in a facility where you are unable to log in due to some technical problems with authentication. The reviews reflect the same frustration other users are finding and I am forced to simply log in with my browser. COME INTO THE 21st CENTURY AIB (NI).

Worst service ever

Worst service ever. How is this bank still operating in this day and age with all the online options out there that are streets ahead? I just don't understand. And in addition to the service being abysmal, the service team is unfriendly.

Cancelled Direct Debit but Money Still Taken Out of Account

I've cancelled Direct Debit via AIB mobile app on the same day that it was set up (Friday 06.02.2026) and received the message this was cancelled and I was also able to see this DD under inactive section in the app.

Very unplesantly surprised on Monday 09.02.2026 when money was taken out regardless. Also received a notification that my direct debit was cancelled successfully to make the irony worse.

I've contacted AIB and they said that because of the way DD was set up, it couldn't get cancelled becuase it was already pending? I've pointed out that DD was set up on Friday and also cancelled on Friday but got no reply to this. When I asked why did I get the message then that it was cancelled, they said it's because DD was cancelled successfuly - honestly, I thought I was being pranked there for a second. When I asked why I'm without the money then, they said DD was already pending. This circle of questions went on a couple of times.

Long story short, after I spend € on the call already, I now need to take time of work to (I work 9-5 while branches work 10-4 of course), drive to town, pay parking, find a printing place to print a paper form to request money back (as something so simple cannot be done online in 2026), fill out the form and hand it in in person and then wait 3-4 business days to get my money back.

All that needed to happed is for AIB mobile app to say - "This DD can't be cancelled, you will be charged" to avoid all of the above and I would simply move all of my money elsewhere, which now I'm going to do regardless.

Very dissapointing customer service, avoid this bank if you can.

Edit: Although the above complaint still stands, I did change rating from 1 star to 3 stars as when I went to the bank, DD Refund Request was processed immediately and money was back in my account the same day.

I'm moving my main banking to Revolut

I'm moving my main banking to Revolut. Aib are a complete joke. I transferred money from a savings account to my current account and at the end of the second day after appearing in my account it still hasn't cleared.
I've bills to pay. This is ridiculous

Me uní a esta plataforma con la intención de administrar mis finanzas con cuidado y aprender más sobre inversiones. Al principio, todo parecía bien organizado y profesional, lo que me dio la confianza para seguir aumentando mi inversión.
Con el tiempo, mi inversión total ascendió a 76.067 €. A medida que aumentaba la cantidad, empecé a sentirme incómodo. La comunicación no siempre era clara y a menudo me costaba comprender del todo las explicaciones. Alguna información me parecía incoherente y, en lugar de tranquilidad, me dejaba con incertidumbre y preocupación por mis fondos.
La situación se agravó cuando tuve problemas para acceder a mi inversión. Fue un período extremadamente estresante, lleno de ansiedad y miedo a perder una cantidad significativa de dinero. Siguiendo atentamente las instrucciones proporcionadas y manteniendo la paciencia durante todo el proceso, mi caso finalmente se resolvió. El proceso de recuperación me ayudó a comprender mejor cómo funciona la recuperación de fondos y, al final, recuperé mi dinero. Esto me brindó un alivio muy necesario después de una experiencia muy difícil.
Aunque recuperé los fondos, el estrés emocional y la incertidumbre que experimenté tuvieron un efecto duradero. Esta experiencia me ha hecho mucho más cauteloso y consciente de los riesgos que implica invertir.
Comparto esta reseña para animar a otros a ser muy cautelosos, investigar a fondo y comprender completamente cualquier plataforma antes de invertir grandes sumas de dinero.

Excellent customer service 

I have had multiple dealings with the AIB branch in Stillorgan, and found the staff to be excellent at customer service.
Specifically,there is very little wait time to be attended to by a staff member, and they go the extra mile in trying to fulfil your Banking requirements.
And generally, they have a smile on their face.
Compared to the other banks in the Stillorgan area, they are a mile ahead on customer service

Fees and charges

Fees being charged on joint ac even though agreed we are exempt as mortage paid from Joint ac. Every three months spending 20 mins on phone going over the details - AIB sysyems totally dont function - very frustrating! dealing with a company where no learnimg or improvement take place.
