I was wrongly billed for an upgrade. I wrote via the website and got no response. I called and spent time giving all the details - I was told someone would deal with it, but nothing happened.
Zero Stars....collected car fromâŠ
Zero Stars....collected car from Manchester Airport, scratches on vehicle before I even got in. Advised to take pictures with time stamp. Returned vehicle 2 days later with a full tank of fuel and in the same condition as when I collected. On returning, vehicle was checked thoroughly and signed off. Staff told me deposit £200 will be returned in 5 days (luckily I videoed this conversation) I implore anyone to record any conservation with this scam company. 6 weeks later - a letter arrived demanding I pay for damaged that occurred whilst it was on hire with me. The Manager, Kirsty raised the claim that I had damaged it. Kirsty plucked my name from thin area and tried her hand to get money from me. Absolute scam. Ironically they have paid me my deposit back however this is now sitting with my solicitor.
*****AVOID AT ALL COSTS*****
Alamo or Locauto..
We picked a car up from Bari train station. The car was dirty and damaged. On driving it is was not in shape, making a terrible tapping noise, despite having supposedly only done 14,000km.
Seems that the office isn't just Alamo either as all our paperwork was from Locauto.
Staff were good though, looked after our cases while we went to have something to eat.
We arrived a little early for ourâŠ
We arrived a little early for our rental car at Gatwick airport. The young man ( didnât get his name) was friendly and efficient. We had a lovely upgraded car and no problems the whole 2week trip.
Alamo care hire scam
On 23rd September I hired a one way car from Newcastle airport to Glasgow airport (£98 plus £200 deposit). On pick up at Newcastle airport I was shown around the car. It was raining heavily and the gentleman walked around the car to check for defects. Due to the heavy rain, he was keen to return to his office. I therefore signed his electronic notebook and started my journey, all of which is motorway driving.
Following return of the car to Glasgow airport the lady informed me of a very small defect on the sidewall of the front nearside tyre. She informed me that she would inform her Alamo office in Newcastle and that my £200 deposit would be returned as soon as possible.
As my deposit wasn't returned by 9th October), I decided to phone Newcastle Alamo office. Unfortunately, my concern was not resolved. I am disgusted to learn that I am being blamed for this tyre defect and that I will be charged for a new tyre. I am also disgusted and amazed that Alamo allowed this car to be driven with this unsafe defect.
Reflecting on many customer reviews, I can see that this is a scam and that Alamo are known to use this as a money making scheme,
I will pursue this matter further through British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association. I wont be hiring a car from Alamo/Enterprise in the future!
I would encourage you to avoid car hire through Alamo/Enterprise.
Remember the Alamo
After being given a detailed warning in the office about all the damage issues I would be responsible for, we went out to our car with the advice to take pictures of any concerns (in the States, the agent accompanies the client to the car for a dual inspection). We found a couple of large stains on the side of the seats, but chose to drive the car anyway. Half-way out the lot, we realized all the commands were in German, including any instructions on how to change it to English. We brought the car back and a new agent out in the lot declared that this was âbelow our companyâs standards,â then issued us a new, larger car as an upgrade.
Halfway from Edinburgh to St. Andrews, the tire pressure warning light came on, advising me to check the tire pressures, then reset the warning light. With our tight driving schedule, I wasnât going to return or go out of my way to find a tire company, so we drove on with that warning light on, and the worries that produced (I didnât tell my wife). We finally found a tire company where they efficiently checked the tire pressure, said all the tires were at different pressures, read the proper amount on the door panel, and properly adjusted all the tires. However, no matter how hard he tried, he couldnât reset the warning light. He advised us that if we drove 30 mph for 30 minutes, the light should go off. (No charge, but a 20 pound tip for the peace of mind). That didnât fit into our driving plans, so we drove the rest of the way with the light on, at least knowing the tire pressures were correct.
We arrived in Glasgow, explained the situation to the local agent, who was very supportive and apologetic, explaining the constant issue of tire replacements on rentals. He didnât charge us for the slight top off of the gas tank, and asked if he could do anything else. The Edinburgh manager was alerted and quickly offered âmake up for the issues,â simply to keep a bad review away. Two weeks later and no offer or action. Bottom lineâavoid Alamo in Edinburgh.
Stay away from this company
the company is a scam. They are trying to charge us for a tyre that was very old.. it is clear it is old.. it has 82,000 kms and it is the only tyre that has not been changed.. tyre is only 110pounds through google but they charge us 550 pounds
My confidence in Alamo was dented
The initial experience of hiring a car from Alamo at Gatwick Airport was fine.
Pictures were taken of all visible damage and the Alamo representative was informed and the items duly noted.
Despite discovering a defective window operation shortly after collection ( that we had not been made aware of ) the car was acceptable.
Upon return to the same Gatwick location, the car was inspected and the representative confirmed the condition was as collected.
We therefore did not expect, approximately 5 weeks later, to receive notification that damage had occurred to a door, and that a considerable amount of money had been taken from our bank account to cover the cost of the repair. The damage had certainly not occurred during our hire of the car, as inspected and confirmed by their own staff.
This is outrageous and unethical practice will mean, we will never use Alamo or their associates in future.
The car wasnt ready
The car wasnt ready, when it was there, there was major confusion wether we had insurance or not, they told us we didnt, we assured them we did, total confusion, at the last second we noticed fuel tank below a quarter, not pointed out to us, so glad we took a pic of the dash with tank and milage on it, month after the rental i got a bill taken out of my account fo £90, for re fueling, emails and stress later hopefully its sorted, overall v poor service, rented through alamo, but picked up through enterprise, poor allround
Horrible experience
Horrible experience, renting at Valencia train station.
The personal was very rude and answered their privat Whatsapp conversation for minutes before attending us. Then, as we rented a 7 seater, they asked for 2 credit cards in the name of the main driver, which we had never heard of before. They made us go home, fetch another credit card, and back at the rental place they still did not accept it despite being a valid credit card. So we had to cancel the reservation and they did not reimburse us a single cent of the reservation fee as they claim the credit card was not valid. However, we tried to chance the reservation or even make a new reservation in a colleagues's name, but apparently they had no car available (the cancellation of the reservation apparently took time...)
The whole experience was ridicolous.
Avoid them like the plague
Avoid them like the plague. I arranged car hire through Alamo at London Heathrow. It was done through booking.com. I paid £65.71. When I got to Alamo, there was an enormous queue and a wait of over an hour despite arranging a specific pick up time. When I finally got served, I was told that I could not hire the car as I did not have a credit card. I had an appointment that I missed. Neither Alamo or booking.com will refund me. This is nothing short of theft. This is possibly the worst customer service I have ever experienced.
ZERO STARS for Alamo Mykonos Airport
ZERO STARS for Alamo Mykonos airport car hire, do not recommend. Firstly - nobody came from Alamo to collect us to take us to their offsite airport location, said they didnât have our details!! Luckily some very nice person from another car hire company dropped us off.
Secondly - the lady on reception and the man that took us to our car tried to pressure us into taking an additional â¬240 for extra insurance, to which we said NO to.
Thirdly - we got home checked our credit card and they have taken â¬290 of which we hadnât authorised or agreed to and actually have no idea what this cost is for. Car was in same condition when we dropped it back, as when we collected it with no issues.
Fourthly - getting hold of the company to get a refund is proving to be difficult.
DO NOT RECOMMEND
ZERO STARS
ZERO STARS! AVOID AVOID AVOID!
20km onto our drive the engine warning lights came on and the vehicle went in to limp-mode on a very busy motorway heading out of Marseille airport.
We had to arrange our own breakdown as Alamo refused to do it. It took two hours to turn up after many phone calls back and forth with Alamo.
The breakdown service wouldn't take the vehicle as it was "drivable" in limp-mode. This is the agreement they have with Alamo.
So back onto a very busy 130kmp motorway at 18kmp which is all the vehicle would do.
Managed to get off at the next junction without getting killed. More phone calls to Alamo to get a replacement vehicle, with always a promise they would ring back but they never did. Limped 35km to the hotel trying to use back roads to avoid accidents. Eventually at the hotel another phone call and again a promise of a return call from management. Guess what? The office closed and no call was recieved.
This is the worst company of any kind I've ever dealt with EVER.
LET'S SEE WHAT TOMORROW BRINGS!
Oh, and I had a 95year old in the car with me
UPDATE - No return phone call in the morning and when I rang them again "surprise" they have no record of my phone calls.
I took matters into my own hands and drove (in limp-mode) to the nearest Alamo office. I was then told that there are no cars available and would have to drive back to where I picked it up from. This would have been impossible due to the engine being stuck in limp-mode. After having a very forceful conversation with the staff we were driven to what amounted to a back street garage with empty beer bottles, litter and an old mattress strewn all over the lot.
We were given a much lower spec vehicle which was badly damaged on every panel and bumper, filthy on the inside and out and not fully fuelled up.
No help was proffered to us to try and resolve what was Alamo's issue with a faulty, dangerous vehicle.
No effort was made by Alamo staff to get us a vehicle which worked.
THE WORST COMPANY I'VE EVERY DEALT WITH!
Kaunas Alamo rent avoid!!!!
Kaunas Alamo rent avoid!!!!! Scamers!!!! Long story short, I rented a car , paid , came to LT had to pay 120e more for 3rd insurance ð I didn't take a car.... f...g clouns !!!!!!!
I felt like I was being scammed.
Booked a mid range SUV (Nissan Qashqai) or similar to pick up at Belfast International Airport. Had to pay £25 extra to drive it to Donegal. Yes, they do tell you... in the small print, when you look for it. Basically dishonest not to highlight this for a fair price comparison. Got given a much smaller SUV (Renault Captur) and was asked to pay extra to get the one I ordered. What a scam!! The car was handed over with about 100 miles less fuel in the tank, which is impossible to refill to that level. So you end up giving them fuel for free. Return staff were unhelpful, just chatting and I had to go and ask them what to do. Not what you want, when you are in a hurry. All round disappointment and unlikely to rent again from them.
Fast and Smoth processes
A smooth experience renting a car in Edinburgh with Alamo. I had the reservation before hand and the transint by the desk was a matter of 5 min. Everything was perfectly explained by the assistant (Rebekah).
No problems with the car, everything was in perfect conditions with a clean and new car.
Finally the returning process was also incredible fast and easy, over the fly the assistant reviewed the car and I got the deposit refund really fast.
On the contrary I travelled in a group and the other part did a reservation with Sixt and during the pick up process they were for more than 20 minutes dealing with the assistant that was trying to sell a lot of extras, car upgrade and a lot of stuff trying to increase the price of the reservation.
In comparison the experience with Alamo was really nice and smooth, for sure I will repeat in the future.
Terrible customer services, refusing car as suddenly age minimum is now 30
Terrible customer service, booked online well in advance of nearly 3 weeks. Arrive at the desk to pick up my car only to be told that that the category I've booked they cannot provide the car as I dont meet their age requirement of 30 years old however at the time of booking and the emails sent the age requirement is minimum 25 and not 30 years. Paid £400 for the booking of a Mercedes e class only to be offered a Mazda and a ford Kuga as replacements for £400. Don't trust them or use them. They already have 68% 1 str reviews wish I see these before booking.
Arrived at the Airport in TallinnâŠ
Arrived at the Airport in Tallinn Estonia. I had an email confirmation from Alamo regarding the terms and pricing and they would not honour it. They said it was not in their system. I showed them the confirmation number and email but they wanted to charge a higher price. Horrible customer service.
Alamo affiliations with Carjet.com
Carjet Car Rental - Disappointing Experience**
I have left this review in relation to Alamo car rental affiliation with Carjet.com. Is Almo aware of refunds not being issued and the total lack of customer support available on Carjet..
I recently booked a car rental through Carjet for 6 days at a cost of £141.58. The vehicle was to be supplied by Alamo Car Rental. After completing the booking, I received a confirmation email that stated a credit card was required for the rental. Unfortunately, I do not have a credit card, so I had to cancel the booking.
The cancellation took place less than 2 hours after making the booking, yet I was informed via email that no refund would be issued. To make matters worse, there is no email address or phone number available to contact Carjet for support.
This experience has been shocking and extremely disappointing. I can't believe the lack of customer service and support provided by Carjet. I would strongly advise others to be cautious when booking through this company.
