SUBSCRIPTION TRAP — Charged CAD $249 for content I cannot access

I purchased an Angel Guild annual membership at angel.com. The content I paid for is blocked in my region due to licensing restrictions. Angel knew this. Their own membership page carries a disclaimer — visible only after purchase — stating that "some benefits may be subject to location restrictions and availability may vary based on regional licensing agreements."

That disclosure does not appear before payment is taken.

When I contacted support immediately to request a refund, I was handled entirely by an AI bot that repeated the same response twice: "We don't offer refunds, pro-rated or otherwise, for any unused membership time."

No human. No resolution. No service delivered.

I then spent 30 minutes on the phone with my bank to initiate a chargeback on grounds of services not rendered.

The cancellation flow itself uses a dark pattern: "Keep Membership" is displayed as a prominent bold button while "Continue to Cancel" appears as plain text beneath it. This is design that discourages cancellation.

Note for consumers searching for reviews: This Trustpilot profile is listed under the name "Genesys" — not Angel or Angel Studios. RDAP and WHOIS records confirm angel.com changed hands in December 2021 when Angel Studios acquired the domain from Genesys, the enterprise software company. This profile was claimed in June 2025. Consumers searching "Angel" or "Angel Studios" on Trustpilot may not find it.

I purchased movie tickets through Angel Studios, Inc.. Paid via Venmo. Confirmation of payment went through and my checking account was deducted for the amount. However, Angel Studios Inc. email said there was an error with processing my payment and they did not secure my tickets. Tried to figure out a way to contact them. The only way is by email, and they don’t respond. Feel like this is a scam website. Avoid if you don’t want to lose your money.

Angel Network is a scam. I paid $179.99 (up front) for a one year premium membership which was to include streaming service and Angel "Guild" membership with free movie tickets for new releases of Angel movies in theaters.
When attempting to claim tickets my "account" wasn't recognized. No customer service telephone or support, you can only chat with a bot. I sent proof of my purchase to the bot (credit card statement showing my purchase) and never received a response. Eventually received instructions from the bot on how to cancel my subscription with no refund. Just awful. Avoid this company. I have filed a complaint with he State of Utah.

Angel.com wanted not only my credit card, but also my address AND phone number. No way …
