This was the best hike we've done - and Erind at Back Country made sure the entire experience was seamless. I'd highly recommend him for helping organise or guide your trip.

My partner and I reached out to Erind to arrange a 9 day self -guided hike for us on the Peaks of the Balkans trail in September, with just one week's notice. He was really responsive, efficient and helpful. He planned an itinerary that met our needs - with an extra couple of loops on top of the regular trail, and arranged permits where needed.

He shared gpx maps we could load onto our phones and watches, and an itinerary describing each day of the hike and where we'd be staying. We were really happy with all of the accommodation options (we were mainly in private rooms in the accommodation along the way). We were lucky to cross paths with Erind on the trail too while he was guiding another group, so spent some time together. If we come back, we'll be sure to book with him again and use him as a tour guide.

We were happy that we chose a local Albanian tour company and could support them as they develop the local tourism industry - as there are a few international operators now getting established taking a share.

Hiking the Balkan Trail with Erind and the team at Backcountry Albania was an amazing experience! The views were out of this world, rugged peaks, beautiful valleys and landscapes that took my breath away at every turn. Erind is not only super knowledgeable about the area but he’s also warm and down to earth which made the whole trip feel like you’re exploring with a friend. Erind was a great communicator and planner for our 4 day trail adventure in the Accursed Mountains. In the summer of 2024, Erind, the founder of Backcountry Albania, guided us on a five-day hiking trip through the Peaks of the Balkans. Growing up in the region, Erind has developed a bond with nature in general, and especially with the mountain landscapes of his upbringing. It was both a pleasure and a privilege to explore the region alongside him.

Erind is an knowledgeable park ranger and alpinist, with an extensive local network that he leveraged to make the trip unforgettable (sip raki with locals, savor shepherd cheese in the alpine meadows, and take shortcuts through his friends' backyards, and so on). Beyond his mountaineering skills, Erind proved to be an outstanding guide, consistently ensuring everyone’s well-being and adjusting his pace to accommodate the group.

Traveling with Backcountry Albania guarantees an authentic experience, immersing you in the local culture and connecting you with people who are genuinely hospitable and supportive. While it's possible to explore the region without a guide, having one, especially one from Backcountry Albania, adds immense value to your trip.
