Profit driven, caring staff
The care home my Mum was in was great, she seemed happy there. The core staff were fabulous. However, over 2 1/2 years there seemed to be an increasing turnover in staff.
The central admin side are incompetent. They really did not seem to understand how a lifetime care plan worked in relation to fees. They are incredibly quick to take your money, but need a lot of prompting to return overpayments.
I do feel that a lot of what they do is for profit. Care home fees are over £1500 per week, yet the activities coordinator feels the need to do sponsored activities and raffles to fundraise for small extras for residents. I feel Barchester should be able to provide a decent budget for enriching activities.
Barchester is a money focused business
Barchester is a money focused business. Care is not the first thought and progression for staff is based on who likes you. Recent promotions just before the new owners came in highlight the rampant nepotism at play and managers are fleeing. We currently need 16 home managers because no one wants to work there and they can't maintain quality.
Awful place to work
Awful place to work, management is no help at all, donât know what theyâre doing and just tell you to speak to admin. Ask you to do 100 things at once and then get annoyed if something on your list doesnât get done. Constantly doing half days and when they are in, do nothing, but gets paid thousands and thousands.
Bad social skills in general, staff are terrified of them and have made it clear they work better when theyâre not there.
Residents families get put off at showrounds once they meet them due to only wanting to speak about money and not about the potential resident.
Whole place is all about money, marketing is all they care about. Families are lucky that some of the carers are so nice as none of that care or kindness comes from management or higher up.
No team work ethic, barely anyone speaks to each other. Facebook posts are all staged and made to look like everyone is having a nice time.
Will never work in the Care sector again after having such a bad time here. Completely ruined my mental health.
I left on my own terms and wanted to email HR but I knew they would be of no help as they are there to protect management.
My Nan is 93 has no hand coordinationâŠ
My Nan is 93 has no hand coordination has dementia and can not walk , needs help drinking and feeding , second time this has happened , a hot burning cuppa tea left for her and she has knocked it on herself and has burnt her with her now having blisters appearing , and with bed sores on her bottom and both her ankles , I would never recommend this company or the carehome ,
Absolutely awful company to work forâŠ
Absolutely awful company to work for poor management and HR my manager AGA MUSIAL at Darcy Gardens Care Home in Bath did not know any protocols at all because I raised concerns she let me go in probation even though I was a top sales leader and hit all my targets
She was rude no manners and wanted to control me not manage me I was not allowed to voice an opinion
I worry for people sending their loved ones into this care home
I have tried to raise concerns with HR about my experiences but they have no interest which itâs disgusting as no employees should be let go for a personal reason - this manager was incompetent calling me out of hours late at night in my personal time putting pressure on me late at night . I was doing the work for her and me and she would do nothing . Smoking cigarettes constantly in the grounds - and in the community even to the point a cigarette hanging out her mouth when handing out bespoke company flyers !! ( cringe ) Absolutely shocking ! Lied in the probation meeting and had no grounds to let me go but I stood no chance as I was on probation snapped at me in the pub lunch which she offered to pay for us all her treat but made her deputy manager pay for on the day who I feel sorry for !
Both foreign and Iâm not racist but both very abrupt and rude no please or thank yous given
Lazy manager - very lovely deputy manager but run ragged by AGA . If you suck up to management your ok but if you voice an opinion your out !
. I have had no answers from HR ! The day before I was told by my senior manager I was a top employee in sales and that I was achieving all my targets and KPIS I have had no explanations
Just dropped like a hat ! So bad I would hate anyone else to have to go through this
I worked my self to the bone ! Awful treatment from HR you would think they would be concerned how management treat staff as that would be a reflection on how they manage a home ! If you can treat people like it ! I wouldnât touch this company !!!!!!
Appalling place.
Appalling place.
Appalling company..
Mother in law was treated so disrespectfully that she ended up in hospital very poorly.
Bone idle staff and understaffed quite a few times.
GDPR broken constantly at front desk.
When you complain its lock down and cover ups.
Lies told to cover themselves and to shut families up.
Her bedroom/ was near left in such a disgusting state that I took my own cleaning products in and cleaned myself when I visited.
Please read the small print before signing as they love to overcharge.
Some kind staff, not many.
It's a wonderful first meeting show around with the ambience of the building, but the cracks start to show rather soon. That , they promise everything would be sorted out asap. They didn't.
It doesn't get any better.
Its hard to believe this is how they conduct themselves.
Clothes go missing and someone else are put in the place.
Security was hit and miss with vulnerable residents going for walk abouts without being noticed.
It was a nighmare getting MIL out, with the rules and regulations without being ripped off.
We as a family put our trust in this home this company, how very wrong we were..
It's all about PROFIT, as a high up member of staff told me and you can actually see it.
Cutting corners with staff, training and the care given.
Please do your homework and visit lots of homes before you sign on the dotted line.
There are some bad ones but believe me there are better ones out there 3-10 miles away.
Bloody awful place to work managementâŠ
Bloody awful place to work ..management very unsupportive very clicky and like hiding there mistakes , got their favourites. if your face doesnât fit youâve had it .a lot of clicky lying backstabbing staff , that lie to cover up there own mistakes , and stick together !! Experienced bullying and Iâve never felt so ill and upset and not wanting to go to a place as much as I did when I worked there , manager was all sweetness and light and pleasant to start with and then she showed her true colours big time , lies lies lies !! phony is a wooden leg !! One star is one to many !!
Having just worked at one of their newâŠ
Having just worked at one of their new homes, Lotus Manor in Send Woking as A day Team leader I am a little concerned for dementia residents within this group,
I was unfortunately attacked by a female nightstaff member and I went over the mangers head and involved police while still on probation.
Reading these reviews this last week, I thankfully had an idea of how Barchester would operate In regards to my complaint, aware how they would treat it and was one step ahead of them the whole way.
I know have a legal case which is sad but itâs no good just complaining sometimes you have to bang tables and make these companies pay in what is the only thing they Value which is £££,£££.
Unfortunately this appears to be a culture within the group.
Proving it can provide a group action and Iâm in the process of making a Facebook page for others who donât have the access to legal advice that I do.
Itâs sad to see so many obviously good workers complain here and to the families I hope you find a better solution than this hotel type care for your loved ones.
The model can work with ethical people at the helm Iâm sure.
Seems they had the right idea and have over invested in last 5 years and the model slipped into something rather toxic.
They pay a bonus to anyone who doesn'tâŠ
They pay a bonus to anyone who doesn't say anything to the CQC. I think that says it all. As a carer weren't allowed carry a drink so staff had constant headaches. Too few staff. I'm not afraid of hard work, but bells were constantly not answered - sometimes on purpose. Patient care was poor in some areas, with some staff doing very little while others were rushed of their feet trying to firefight issues. I left writing a very civil list of some of the bad practices I saw, but had no reply. When I asked why I hadn't got a response to my concerns, I was told management were busy people.
TOTALLY AVOID THE PLACE, staff rude, patients not cared for , staff never around, management vile. Would not recommend to anyone !
Staff rude, management rude vile and unhelpful, they donât look after the residents. Put a complaint in writing took over 2 months for someone to call me she was so rude and unhelpful never listened to my complaint and she was such a vile person.
I would never use this company specially on the Isle of Wight Vecta house to put anyone I know in there. I feel sorry for the patients there, staff donât help when you ask them a question, patients complaining of being cold no staff around when you need them. Twice my neighbours wife was taken out that home to go to the hospital and not once did they advice her husband next of kin.
The manger of Vecta house has not got a good reputation when speaking to other professionals.
So I would definitely NOT Recommend this carehome or group to anyone.. TOTALLY AVOID THE PLACE
Avoid to work here

Fake fake fake avoid avoid avoid
How do you score a company who repeatedly failed to provide care to a vulnerable person? How do you tell people it's money this company go for over care, yet they have a brilliant marketing and media teams showing happy faces and carers....its false!? It's as false and as fake you can get. Sadly loved one was uncared for, manipulated and broken by this company. About time they were investigated but money talks and Pete needs his bonuses. Awful company. Avoid. Do your homework. This lot bribe those living in the homes with writing care reviews. It's awful. You cannot believe anything they say.
Barchester Beaumont, Reigate, Surrey
I see Barchester Beaumont have now employed JH Clinical Care Manager from Reigate Grange Signature Senior Lifestyle Care home where she is now a nurse at Beaumont in Surrey. Less then 10mins walk away from Reigate Grange care home where she was involved with the abuse and life threatening poor care and cover ups of the Ann King that was exposed by the Guardian and ITN. She denied CCTV footage to the family where her husband was Maintenance Manager and covered up a Dementia Resident carrying 6 knifes, some being serrated walking around the corridors when they have full access to the cutlery draws in the 3 x kitchens unsupervised is shocking.
Who wrote their risk assessments and method statements...Surrey Council Safeguarding who have been found guilty of failings along with Signature Reigate Grange home by the Local Government Social Ombudsman along we medication failings and much more.
What a disgrace of a company to employ this person knowingly where she had come from Reigate Grange and put the safety of their Residents at risk as well is shocking.
A review over the knifes was put up on Carehomes.co.uk and answered by Signature Reigate Grange and after a copy was taken was then deleted from the public view by the company to what seems to be a cover up after a man died in Sussex care home in the hands of the police again having access to a knifes in a Dementia care home.
You can not trust a company who are willing to do hide, lie and deny these things with the life of a vulnerable person.
Totally neglected my mum!
Totally neglected my mum!! I would not recommend this home
Don't bother working here
After speaking out about them repeatedly breaking data protection laws, I was let go (after 9 month probation).
I didn't get many shifts anyway on a bank contract, and they were often taken away from me at short notice and given to others.
Mum moved in to home at in 2 weeks fellâŠ
Mum moved in to home at in 2 weeks fell over twice and broke hip. Then came out of hospital to new home and manager denied me speaking to my mother who is vulnerable and wants me to speak to her. Since the manager has phoned back and got mum on phone. It's not the managers fault it's the organisations policies. A Director did phone later and sorted out problem and everything sorted

This place is useless you apply jobs on indeed or on their site they don't even view the application or call back anything when you ring them they don't even answer this must be the most unprofessional care industry around.
Appalling company, no integrity what so ever
Having been in a management position in Barchester Healthcare I feel it beholden upon me to speak up about this appalling company. From the very senior management team down to individual homes this company has a brutal and cavalier attitude toward staff. Managing directors and regional directors have little or no respect for their home management teams including general mangers. You are coerced to bend to their business or personal needs which is wholly centered around profits or personal gain, with little or no concerns over care standards for residents or the well being of staff. Every single employee is disposable with little or no justifiable reason and treated with complete disdain until they are worked out of the business. When you are witness to conversations by directors who's comments are "get rid of them" in relation to a colleague who any other company would support, it leaves a really bad taste. If you are prepared to suck up to senior managers / directors you will do well but this comes at the cost of selling your soul and with expectations that you do exactly as your told even if the deed is morally repugnant, but these people do exist in the company. Bullying tactics and victimisation are normal every day occurrences. The company is riddled with internal cliques which favors the few. I cannot adequately express how much I abhor a culture of this nature that is so inherently devoid of a genuine caring purpose toward its clientele or staff. Why anyone would chose to work for Barchester is beyond me, if you were ever to consider this company for employment I strongly suggest you speak honestly to an ex-employee and gauge your next move on their responses. It would be easy for Barchester to counter this review with a rebuttal that this is an individually disgruntled employee, deny and take no heed and that is their choice, I expect no more, that is their culture. As for those people with a conscious and a moral compass, do not let your standards or your self worth be stripped away, be your own judge. Do your own due diligence, the scores on this site alone speak volumes 5 star at 23%, 1 star at 72% can the majority all be wrong?
Middletown Grange, Hailey
This place is an absolute joke, it is dirty, dangerous and no one cares. I have raised this with management before and nothing has ever been done, hence the review.
I have video evidence of other residents walking into my mother's room and taking things from her.
When I did raise this with a nurse in person, she blamed my mother and said my mother knew the person who was coming into her room which I know for a fact is not true.
I noticed my mother didn't have a duvet one day as it was being cleaned so I asked a nurse to make sure my mum had one for that night.
When I looked on the camera in her room later on, there was no duvet, and she also didn't have one for another night after that.
For £7000 per month, this is absolutely appalling.
This place has 56 rooms, even at the lowest price, they take in around £300,000 per month, let that sink in.
If you need a care home, I would choose one that actually does basic cleaning, maintenance and upkeep. It's no wonder they have a 1.6 out of 5 rating on Trustpilot.
It's dated, filthy and is in dire need of renovating.
When I informed management I have video evidence of all these things, including a dementia patient walking into my mother's room at 5.30am and dropping his trousers, I got threatened with legal action from their Managing Director Angela Bradford.
A disgusting, vile, evil company who exploits the elderly for profit.
