Hettie was a great tutor, she made the online lessons interesting and engaging so that my son stayed motivated with his studies. The lessons helped him to pass the Colyton entrance exam.

We had an amazing experience with Beam Tuition. Hettie is very knowledgeable, patient and caring. My child needed some extra help in some maths and Hettie has always been available to tailor her sessions accordingly. Feedback is also very regular at the end of each lesson and (big plus here) is always honest. Not one of those tutors that would tell you anything just to sign you up.

My daughter has been thriving in Maths and English since having tuition with Sophy, it has been lovely to see her being excited about learning.

After having been tutored for 11+ (and successfully gaining a place at the school of choice), my daughter specifically requested Hettie at Beam Tuition for some support in a specific subject when approaching her GCSEs. My daughters confidence improved so dramatically as a direct result of her tuition that the prospect of daunting exams turned from a source of anxiety into something she could approach eagerly and comfortably. I supplement my daughters comprehensive schooling with tuition. The Beam tutor has established a very good rapport with her. Results are a focus, but so is a growth mindset and the foundations for self motivated study. They understand the brief and have responded brilliantly.

I have worked with Hettie in her capacity as an 11+ expert and adviser and it has always been a pleasure. She is extremely knowledgeable and has provided really helpful insights into what is needed for 11+ learning and practice resources. She knows her stuff and can communicate that very clearly.

John is upbeat, encouraging and has good structure to his lessons and the pace of the lesson was always made to suit our son. John was always punctual, reliable and always fed back to us straight after lessons but also by email. Hopefully with all of johns help over the last few months are son will reap the rewards in August on result day.

We have had Hettie as our tutor for the last 4 years, originally for our son and then for our daughter. Initially, we wanted to support to help our son get into his chosen secondary school. Both our children achieved the grades they needed and excelled our expectations achieving top grades.
To us, Hettie’s success has been much more than grade achievements. Through the process of her individualised, creative and well considered online lesson plans, she has made learning fun for my children. Hettie has instilled in them an enthusiasm for subjects they didn’t previously enjoy. They excel almost as much in these subjects as they do the ones where they always possessed natural flare. She has taught them how to handle homework and how to plan ahead. Many of my friends have to check their children’s homework. We have found that the foundations built a with Hettie provide them with the ability to self manage their work load years on.
Not only has Hettie been wonderful with our children but she has been a delight to work with. Her feedback has been insightful, knowledgable and invaluable. I have two girls with very different personalities and academic needs, year 6 and year 4. They both really enjoy their regular lessons. My eldest started with Hettie in the summer before the Kent test, when she expressed a wish to try for grammar school. Her maths was half way off where it needed to be. She engaged with Hettie's tutoring and was encouraged to put effort in her maths studies through the summer and got a pass!
We then started our youngest on regular lessons to help encourage her with her maths and English. When it came to half term - she insisted to have her lesson even during the holidays. That's a win from an 8yo!
I'd strongly recommend Hettie to anyone looking for a tutor for primary school, for 11+ or Kent test or just for general academic help.

We have been absolutely delighted with the tutoring and support Hettie has given to our 12 year old daughter whilst she prepared for Year 8 grammar school entrance tests. Hettie has a perfect combination of warmth, enthusiasm, focus, expertise and clarity. Her lessons flow beautifully and she covers so much during her lessons and through the homework she sets. Hettie is always encouraging, inspiring and extremely supportive. It was wonderful to see our daughter's confidence and knowledge grow over the series of lessons. In October of last year, we approached Hettie and gave her the unenviable task of helping to prepare our two children (then aged 8 and 10) for UK entrance exams in a very short 2.5-month timeframe. At this point our children had only ever been taught in Swiss in the local Swiss system; with a curriculum that was at least 2 years behind the UK system.

From the outset we felt confident that Hettie would do everything she could to help us, despite most children coming to Hettie for help at least a year in advance and with a UK-system brackground.

Hettie was always friendly, calm, relaxed, patient, punctual, professional, a great communicator both during lessons and in between lessons by email and incredibly flexible and receptive to the fact we were both full-time working parents. Hettie tutored remotely from the UK to our home in Switzerland with great ease and has brilliant systems in place to teach remotely. Above all our children loved her lessons and both respected her and responded brilliantly to her teaching techniques.

I am pleased to say both our children passed their entrance exams and started at their new school (their first choice) today. Once their exams were over in January, we continued with Hettie's tuition all the way through to the Summer holidays to help bridge their gap in knowledge.

We would not hesitate to work with Hettie again in the future if either of our children needed some extra help.

Hettie was without a shadow of a doubt instrumental in helping our children secure a place at their preferred school.

As we are expats returning from France to the UK, we contacted Hettie to get tuition for our two children for the 11+ entrance exams. We were very impressed by the amount of information and guidance she gave as we were unfamiliar with the school system. Lessons were really engaging, never rushed, and the addition of the homework she set and marked really helped get through the topics thoroughly. We would not hesitate to recommend Hettie/Beam to any expats looking for a tutor to help them ease back into the UK system. She is a lovely person and always goes the extra mile.
