We are really thrilled with our steel doors the look really really stylish. The whole process of having them measured and fitted was brilliant the staff have all been very professional, helpful and so polite we would really recommend them.

I strongly caution against using this company following my recent experience of using their services.

I contracted Black Steel Doors Ltd to install one of their products in my home in July 2023. My initial experience of the company through the sales process was favourable. However, as soon as contracts had been signed and monies paid, the level of service quickly changed. Throughout the 5 month period I have been dealing with this company, I have experienced multiple issues which have ultimately resulted in a poor quality product and defective installation.

To summarise the key issues: (1) there is no proactive communication so you will need to chase for all updates, appointments, etc; (2) their teams do not attend agreed appointments so you will invariably give up whole days waiting for them to arrive (including occasions where they do not show up at all with no explanation); (3) the installation timelines cannot be relied upon (I was told to expect a “half day installation” whereas in reality it has taken almost 3 months over 6 separate visits); (4) the installation quality is very poor (hence the 6 visits) so you will need to inspect their work very carefully; (5) they do not install according to the agreed specification and are dishonest until presented with signed drawings contradicting their claims about what was originally agreed; (6) they will attend appointments without all necessary tools and/or materials which will delay the installation; (7) when installation faults are pointed out, the installation team will tell you “that is normal” in an attempt to avoid corrective works, or make sub-standard adjustments that no credible company would deem acceptable; (8) they will leave your property at short notice because they need to attend another job (which apparently takes precedence despite having agreed your appointment in advance).

At times I have been confronted with incredulity for my expectation that the door they installed would simply open and close properly (which it did not) and match the specifications I had ordered (which it did not). After the sixth visit, I now have a door that does open and close but only with force, and the whole installation is visibly misaligned. It is a fire door, so the installation is not fit for purpose. I have given up trying to hold this company to account and chose to sign-off the installation so I could conclude my dealings with them. I have done this with much hesitation and regret, but ultimately the pursuit of legal recourse is economically prohibitive and instead I will now instruct a competent installation company to repair the various faults.

Throughout the whole process, I have received very well-rehearsed apologies and commitments to improvement from the company. However, those commitments were never met and ultimately the service got worse, not better. I wrote to the Managing Director of the company on two occasions but she chose not to respond.

Do not be fooled by the slick marketing and sales process. Once you have paid over your money your experience will be significantly poorer (note: their payment terms require full payment prior to installation, so you have no leverage when things go wrong).

UPDATE ON 3 JAN 2024 IN RESPONSE TO FEEDBACK BELOW: The feedback provided by Black Steel Doors to my original review is shockingly dishonest. While it is true (as reflected in my review) that they attended multiple times, their visits actually resulted in the installation becoming worse, not better and they certainly did not work "diligently" to correct all the issues. The reply below would seem to suggest that, after 6 visits, I should still be willing to accept further incompetence and dishonesty. As I stated in my original review, I strongly recommend avoiding this company unless you wish to waste large sums of money and time.

I am an architectural designer and have used this company on a project and based on my experience, I will not be using them again or recommending them to my clients. The surveying/design process went smoothly - the surveyor was very professional and helpful. However the installation was a shambles - they miscommunicated a key element in the installation that required my client to remove their front door for access. This wasn't required in the end and they did not let us know this until half way through the day of installation. The installation took place in June 2023 and they still have not completed the final elements as they are 'awaiting' parts. Bad communication and extremely unorganised internally. I would hesitate to work with them again.

Excellent design and quality doors and windows. Fantastic service, the whole team are professional and reliable.
Fitters arrived when they said they will.
Really pleased with the end result.
Would differently use them again for future projects and really happy to recommend Black Steel Doors.

Black Steel Doors has been one of the best investment we have made to our house. We have done a complete refurb and the black steel doors have made all the difference. They are solid in structure, elegant in their modern design and completely finish the decor. Matyas (get help all of the time) has been our contact and all of the team have gone the extra mile, the surveyor, the fitters, the photographers and office staff. We wholeheartedly can recommend them to you.

good quality , polite installer and easy to work with

We first saw black steel doors at the Grand Designs show last year and were very impressed. Matyas was our point of contact who was very helpful and patient with guiding us through the process. We made several changes with which he was very responsive. Later our contact for installation was Wiktoria who was equally as helpful and post installation there was some little issues which she arranged to be sorted quickly. We are in the process of a fairly big project and dealing with various companies. I have to say Black steel have been probably one of the best to deal with and very happy and impressed with doors. Amazing team and product.

Great customer service from Ginger Boy, he offered very useful advice regarding my first proper camping trip since 2019. He was also super helpful in sorting out some problems earlier on with the things I bought. And Louise even looked after my things and kept me company too. Will be back - 10/10

The quality of the product is undeniably good, and the people who run the business are very committed and professional. When our doors had arrived, but before they were installed, we were reminded of a clause in the contract (that we didn’t realise we’d agreed to) that demands full payment upfront, before delivery or installation. This was initially concerning to us, as it is natural to worry that if the result is unsatisfactory, one would not have the usual ability to compel the supplier to rectify the problem.

While I would prefer Black Steel Doors to change their terms and conditions and allow customers to pay the final 50% only upon successful completion, I can confirm that our experience was positive nonetheless. As it happens, one of the glass panes was cracked. BSD was quick to accept responsibility and order new glass from the factory overseas. When it arrived, they immediately arranged for a further installation. As a goodwill gesture, they also added a “gasket” to the doors to assist with further soundproofing.

I am happy to recommend Black Steel Doors to others.

We had an installation scheduled for yesterday. The installation boys turned up on time and the whole installation was completed smoothly from the beginning to end. The doors look gorgeous, and they add a unique style to our home.

This is how a company should operate . Fast estimating service and excellent project management and a first class product. A minor hiccup during installation was quickly resolved .I requested a more positive close on the Bi-Folds post installation which was not a problem and dealt with quickly . In comparison with other suppliers and contractors on my project BSD were a breath of fresh air to deal with.

After ordering we were kept up to date on timing of installation. Delivery and installation went very smoothly - the guys were really helpful. The doors look stunning and finish our project beautifully.

The doors are fantastic and were expertly installed. Taking into account we have an old property and nothing is level the finished result is stunning. They add buckets of sophistication to our rooms

I went to visit the showroom and was impressed with the range of products on offer. I think that they are one of the only companies in the UK that can provide bifolding crittall doors, as well as fire rated crittall doors.
I received good custoemr service throughout the process and was impressed that they came out straight away to resolve a minor issue once the doors had been fit.
I would certainly recommend this company and would use them again on future projects.

Top quality product & service. We are so pleased with our BSD's. The communication and service with the team has been smooth and regular and the finished product is excellent. Installers were great. We ordered 5 internal single doors and a slider. They feel solid, excellent quality and really are a stand out feature of our home. Glad we choose BSD and would choose again if we ever the need!

Great service and product. I have purchased fire-rated for my home, needed a little more specific information for the building control but they were helpful and provided everything we requested. We were very impressed with the service as well as the product itself which is not only safe but also very nice to look on.
