I strongly advise against using this firm if you or a family member has cognitive impairment. My mother was formally diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease over ten years ago. I am named as one of her attorneys for financial affairs under a registered Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA). Despite being fully aware of my mother’s diagnosis, her solicitor attempted to have me removed as attorney, relying in part on allegations made by my stepfather that the solicitor later admitted were false.
A capacity assessment was only arranged after my mother had already signed a deed of revocation. The subsequent assessment confirmed that my mother did not have the mental capacity to revoke the LPA. This situation resulted in multiple meetings to rectify matters, all paid for by my mother. My siblings and I have since consulted two independent law firms, both of whom advised that where a client has a known Alzheimer’s diagnosis, a capacity assessment should be completed before any new legal documents are signed. This was not done here. I submitted a formal complaint to the solicitor's boss and was told the solicitor had followed proper procedure. Based on the independent legal advice we received, that is simply not correct.
Unfortunately, we feel unable to move firms without incurring yet another capacity assessment, which is deeply frustrating given the circumstances. Overall, this experience has caused unnecessary distress, expense, and loss of trust.

Bolt Burdon was 3 times the price of my previous conveyancers for an equivalent property and purports to give an excellent service to justify its high costs.
Unfortunately it didn't deliver. Emails were normally answered quite quickly but the ball was dropped a number of times and this caused delays.
The managing partner was patronising when I raised an issue and, when I explained what she had got wrong, ignored me. Not what you expect from a firm that prides itself in customer service.

I didn't want to write this whilst still angry, but I find a month later I'm still really dissatisfied with this company.
I first used them in 2006 to write my will, then again in about 2016 to tweak it as my circumstances had changed. All good back then. Circumstances changed yet again and it was felt better to start from scratch and totally rewrite it which I agreed with.
From the beginning of the process things have not gone very well - from omitting my (only) grandchild from the will completely. No explanation, no apology, but it created a further delay.
Finally the will was approved on the 3rd draft, having had to jog them several times along the way. I have it in writing that a hard copy would be sent to me in time for my holiday, but no, it didn't arrive. I asked when I got back and it had been posted whilst I was away, even though I gave my dates. It never arrived. In the end it had to be sent tracked and finally arrived.
It was hassle and irritation all the way and so time consuming chasing up. Not a good or professional experience and not recommended. Charging by *the minute* soon mounts up and the bill was much higher than I thought. I still don't know if my will was correctly witnessed, despite asking.
I have already told a friend who was about to rewrite his will to go elsewhere, and he is. I've put a note on my hard copy not to use the company for probate.

used for conveyancing services, solicitor left halfway through completion , didn't warn us of crazy planning consent or do refresher searches between our move & completion date. once moved in found out to our horror a planning application approved that massively affected our house and and massively reduced the value, spent over two years and a ton of money battling neighbour and council as a result, would never have proceeded with sale if I knew, was ill advised, and passed to 4 different solicitors in the sale and purchase process, and some of them completely did not understand the very straightforward initial instruction! The paralegal/receptionist did more work than the supposedly qualified solicitors. I had to move, again! bolt burdon didn't even put a fraud protection on our title until our new solicitor made enquiries and was told we would have grounds for negligence claim. bolt burdon mark goring didn't offer any further advice when complained about the lack of detail given or the 4different solicitors we were passed to. absolutely negligent and disgraceful ... The tone of the response we got from Darren was basically "oh well" do your self a favour and AVOID!! They don't appear to give a crap about you and just want your money.

I recently used Bolt Burdon for conveyancing and they have been excellent. Shoutout to Jasmine Daya and Liberty Umeh for pushing my case from appointment to completion in just under 8 weeks. Jasmine is a very warm and meticulous professional who will be by your side at all times throughout the process. Overall, reliable, transparent and positive communication with all those I interacted with at the firm. As a further bonus, the firm's office at Providence House is very cozy! If you're looking for reliable solicitors to help with your property transactions, you can definitely count on Bolt Burdon.

I used Bolt Burdon for my purchase and have to say, my experience was second to none.
They communicated and supported me well through the whole of the transaction.
I have used other firms before and can say with all honesty, Bolt Burdon have well and truly exceeded my expectations.

Did a fine job conveyancing on a property purchase for me ... then 8 years later when i realised id mislaid some key evidence of some pre purchase property alterations ... they searched their emails from 2015 (which i was surprised they even still have) and found exactly what i needed. I am an immensely grateful to Bolt Burdon, and Melanie and Keegan in particular, for pulling something close to a miracle.
For some specific tax reasons it was very important for me to sell my house in 2022 and we managed to do it just 2 days before completions were stopped for Christmas. They worked relentlessly being the very definition of being "on the ball": all my e-mails were answered promptly, every phone call answered, they chased the buyer's solicitors constantly, and managed the process of delayed (by buyers) exchange. I honestly cannot think of a single thing they could have done better.
If I think of Trustiolot 5 stars being akin to 5 star designating upmarket luxurious hotel, that it is meant to wow you...that is exactly the service we received.
Every step of the way, we were updated, informed and even comforted, with very kind and supportive words.
It was in a stark contrast to solicitors we used on our previous sale that failed, in the other case we really felt "the transactional nature of our relationship" we were confused and left to deal with the problems on our own.
But not with Bolt Burdon. This time we were extremely stressed because our previous transaction failing and so little time left to achieve our objective. Melanie and Keegan understood our situation and they acted accordingly. But what really impressed me was the sense of how much they actually cared to deliver. When the agreed exchange date was moved despite everything agreed I could tell that Melanie took our problem almost as it was her own and was genuinely frustrated and upset. It tells a lot not only about her professional qualities but how empathic she is as a human being.
Thank you again for all your hard work and for saving us from a lot of potential problems.

For the sake of full disclosure, we were introduced to the firm by our friend and she did mention to Melanie and Keegan we were her friends but she assured us that the service those two delivered is what they would have done for every client.

I am a leaseholder who, with other leaseholders, used Bolt Burdon to arrange for a freehold purchase in London E1 (Victoria Mills).

The transaction completed MORE THAN A YEAR ago but we are yet to receive the paperwork. The RTM board has chased these solicitors on a number of occasions and...nothing.

I worked with Amie, Jack and completion team for my new property as a first time buyer. They were amazing with communication, explaining the details and I can reach them whenever I need them.

Our daughter used this company to buy her first property. On their website they say their fees are 'transparent'...NO THEY ARE NOT!!! We got landed with a huge bill after they had already agreed a price. This company is the Ryan Air of solicitors and to be honest, we definitely would not use them again even if they had said their services were for free!

Firm was appointed based on a meeting with a solicitor who was subsequently unavailable to handle the matter. Her replacement was a poor substitute. We were charged for the handover process although not requested by us. Although they conducted themselves very professionally, they were largely ineffective. Constantly deferred to the barristers opinion. Proposed a complete change of strategy on several occasions. Appeared primarily focussed on increasing their billable hours with what in hindsight appears to have been unnecessary make-work. Offered a 'fixed fee' at different stages that was always exceeded.
