What started off as a good experience


What started off as a good experience turned bad after the third portrait was sent and still poor quality, wrong size, and a newley defensive customer service representative. Several kind apologies after the first product showed up with a solid 4-5 inch white band across the top and an extra "ear" misprint on the side. After the first one, I requested a smaller size (for the same price) since they were going to reprint it anyway, but the second print showed up the same size and still with the extra ear on the side. I requested a refund, but instead a third print showed up, again the wrong size and again with the extra ear on the side. I had also asked for a modification of the portrait after the first one which was not accomdated on the subsequent prints. Kindness turned into defensiveness and blame, along with a refusal to provide a refund and no offer to provide the correct product without errors. I have been patient, but the blame is quite a dissapointment. Apparently the extra "ear" on the side is now being described as intentional and mirroring.... really? Poor quality was certainly my experience, and even worse customer service.

We are truly sorry that the process felt frustrating. We did make multiple genuine attempts to reach a resolution — the portrait was reprinted and resent three times at no additional cost, and revisions were offered and incorporated throughout the process. We also ensured that each version was reviewed and approved before moving forward.
Regarding the canvas edge, the mirror wrap effect is a standard finishing technique used across the industry, where the image wraps around the sides of the canvas. This was explained to you on multiple occasions over email, including as recently as today, and it is not a misprint or defect.
We are sorry if, at any point, our communication came across as defensive — that is never our intention. Our team works hard every day to deliver something our clients are genuinely proud of, and we are disappointed this was not the outcome here.

Sadie Boog Blosser 2015 - 2025

I sent four pictures of my Sadie. I included a painting we recently purchased to match the coloring. I absolutely love my portrait of Sadie. It's almost like looking into her eyes again. Her floppy ears were captured perfectly. It will remain a cherished possession and a beautiful likeness of my soul pet. Thank you very much!

Fantastic Service-Start to Finish!

What a great company to work with from start to finish! Thanks to Andrew and Sandy for all of their help to make several edits and get it not just right but perfect! Quality of the finished portrait is spectacular, with vibrant colors, exceptional quality canvas and exact portrayal of the photo sent to them! All phases and the project were right on time! Can't wait to use their talents again!

I'll try to be fair and balanced here...

I'll try to be fair and balanced here. Everything with Bondel went really smoothly until the final products arrived (very responsive, easy to communicate with Andrew and Sandra, they even went out of their way to ship in time for my mother's birthday). Customer service was great but candor is zero, bordering on shady/bait and switch. The website is littered with terms like "hand drawn" and "portraits". Buyer beware: what you will receive is NOT a painting (what I thought I had ordered), and it's very questionable if a human is involved in any step of the process post-order besides stapling the plastic-like canvas to a frame and shipping. Bondel's responses to less than positive reviews constantly defend that they don't use AI, it's all human and not computer generated. I call BS--the two very large PAINTINGS I ordered are very obviously laser printed from a computer generated image. I cant return it so I hung it in a room nobody in my house uses for now (I assume my mother will do the same for hers) and I sometimes go look at it to remind myself to read all fine print and do my diligence before ordering from any ads on Instagram. If what I received was a bona fide painting, this review would be 5 stars. Bondel really needs to make it explicitly clear to prospective customers--especially when you've exchanged a dozen emails back and forth on proofs, etc!--that what they will receive is the same thing a child with a photoshop license and a local CVS to laser print could produce for a fraction of the cost. They had every opportunity to be transparent about what and how they produce but clearly their business model is not that. I paid over $500 for two larger sized items. My wife has printed several similar sized images through Google Images, CVS, etc. for about $75 each. I personally don't want to hang AI, laser printed trash in my home; I want to employ actual artists, not mass produced junk. Ive already researched a proper artist (check out "Works of Arf") to commission actual paintings of our dogs at which point I'll have a very expensive Bondel bonfire and then share that video instead of the onboxing video they asked me to send them.

You raise a fair point about clarity, and it's one we take to heart: we can do a better job making it explicitly clear that our final product is a premium canvas print, not a traditional oil or acrylic painting. We understand that distinction matters, and we don't want anyone to feel surprised when their order arrives. That's feedback we're actively using to improve how we describe our products.

That said, we do want to stand behind our team and our process. Every Bondel portrait is individually created by one of our designers, a real person who works from your pet's photos, applies our signature abstract style by hand using digital tools, and refines the artwork through multiple revision rounds based on your feedback. Your order went through that exact process. This isn't auto-generated or one-click output, and we wouldn't be comfortable putting our name on it if it were.
We're proud of the work our artists do, and the vast majority of our customers love what they receive. But when someone doesn't, that matters to us. If there's anything we can do, our door is always open at hello@bondel.co.
