I am submitting this narrative to outline concerns regarding the conduct of my former
attorney and the law firm that represented me in the above-referenced matter. The conduct
described below reflects inadequate representation, communication failures, unclear fee
practices, failure to follow client instructions, potential conflicts of loyalty, and an
abrupt termination of representation at a critical stage. These concerns are presented
factually and are supported by documentation I can provide upon request.
1. Failure to Communicate and Lack of Reasonable Availability
Throughout representation, my attorney failed to respond to emails, phone calls, and
requests for updates, including during crucial stages of settlement finalization.
Examples include:
- Emails requesting status updates that went unanswered for prolonged periods.
- Multiple unreturned phone calls.
- Difficulty obtaining basic information needed to make informed decisions.
This appears inconsistent with:
- Massachusetts Rule of Professional Conduct (MRPC) 1.4(a) and (b): failure to keep a
client reasonably informed and explain matters sufficiently.
- MRPC 1.3: lack of reasonable diligence and promptness.
2. Lack of Clarity and Transparency Regarding Fees
The attorney did not clearly disclose the full scope of fees required. Near the end of the
case, despite no additional negotiation being needed, I was told I had to pay more for
“negotiation” in order to finalize the settlement. This created confusion and financial
pressure at a vulnerable stage.
This may violate:
- MRPC 1.5(b): duty to communicate the basis or rate of fees.
- MRPC 8.4(c): conduct involving dishonesty, fraud, deceit, or misrepresentation.
3. Failure to Follow Client Instructions and Advocate for Client Interests
My attorney repeatedly disregarded explicit instructions, including:
- My requested settlement payment method.
- Ensuring the correct settlement amount was enforced.
- Taking appropriate steps to require opposing counsel’s compliance with the stipulation.
This appears inconsistent with:
- MRPC 1.2(a): duty to abide by a client’s decisions regarding objectives and methods.
- MRPC 1.1: duty of competent representation.
4. Pattern of Favoring Opposing Party’s Preferences Over Mine
A pattern developed where my attorney appeared more aligned with the hotel’s interests
than my own. This included:
- Repeatedly prioritizing the hotel’s preferences without justification.
- Minimizing and dismissing legitimate concerns about delays.
- Framing my reasonable inquiries as “impatience,” which felt dismissive and gaslighting
in nature.
This may implicate:
- MRPC 1.7(a)(2): conflict of interest due to lawyer’s own preferences materially limiting
representation.
- MRPC 8.4(d): conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice.
5. Improper and Harmful Termination of Representation
My attorney abruptly terminated representation without prior notice, without consultation,
and without taking steps to avoid foreseeable prejudice. This occurred:
- While opposing counsel had not fulfilled the stipulation terms.
- While the settlement payment was pending.
- When I needed representation the most.
The termination appeared retaliatory after I raised concerns about communication and fees.
This may violate:
- MRPC 1.16(d): obligation to protect client interests during withdrawal.
- MRPC 1.16(b): limits on terminating representation when it harms the client.
6. Failure to Protect Client Interests During Final Settlement Phase
After the stipulation was finalized, my attorney disengaged completely unless I paid
additional fees. This occurred when the only remaining task was enforcing the stipulation
and ensuring payment.
This appears inconsistent with:
- MRPC 1.3: diligence.
- MRPC 1.4(b): explaining matters to permit informed decisions.
7. Potential Retaliatory Conduct
Withdrawal occurred shortly after I questioned billing and communication issues. The
timing suggests retaliation, causing avoidable harm to my legal position.
This may implicate:
- MRPC 8.4(d): conduct prejudicial to the administration of justice.
8. Overall Impact on My Case
Because of the above conduct:
- Settlement was delayed unnecessarily.
- I was left without representation during a crucial period.
- I faced unnecessary emotional and financial strain.
- Progress toward resolution was disrupted.
Closing Statement
I respectfully request that the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers review this matter in
accordance with the Massachusetts Rules of Professional Conduct. Supporting documentation
is available upon request.

This company is only interested in collecting as many legal fees as possible. Their legal advice is dubious and they try to collect additional fees at every step, even thought upfront they insist on each one being the last one. They refuse to give refunds. They don't do even basic due diligence to inform clients of chances for legal success, do not do basic work or communication to expedite cases, and continue to offer expensive, unnecessary services all knowing that there is no additional legal benefit to the client. This is a predatory law firm and I would strongly advise you avoid their business.

So so help, I told them I was owed money from my landlord after I paid what they claimed I owed. I paid with the intention of getting it back after checking my records and paperwork..No real help from them after they insisted I pay them before the holidays to "get right on the case" Nice people but no help at all. $225 down the drain

I hired them to send a demand letter. They sent me the proof it was all wrong. I sent them all the corrections. Approved the final correct letter and then they sent the wrong letter out. The company thought it was a joke never was able to get my case resolved and wasted hundreds of dollars in fees to Cape Law. Don’t waste your time and money!!

Cape Law charged me money for 8 months, many many excuses, and kept changing representations! They are a legal FRAUD! I’m sure the owners know nothing about the law but they hire bootleg lawyers! Stay away from those SCAMMERS

I received excellent attention and communications from Cape Law. They were able to do what I was unable to do through available channels. My issues were resolved easily. I am so grateful to the team that worked on my case. Cape Law attorneys are dedicated and committed. They really do care and listen, and their services did not break my budget. Now that my case is resolved in my favor, I will continue to pay the monthly fee to retain their service in case I ever need legal help again.

1) Had our claim dismissed because of bad advice from their office re: paying a disputed amount before filing despite asking about this repeatedly
2) Provided us with a trial brief that referred to nonexistent case law. I'm assuming this was done by a paralegal who used an LLM to generate the brief, and didn't bother to check the case law references. But this seems pretty egregious and implies malpractice if true.
3) Had 3 days to respond to an urgent situation that was caused by their office in the first place (see above), and said that wasn't enough time to respond
4) Filed suit in the wrong jurisdiction because, again, they used an automated entity search of some kind, and didn't bother to follow up and check the addresses, and verify with us the logic of the entity search.
5) I had to complain in order to even get a call to review our trial brief to prep for the hearing, despite paying a monthly fee for the Cape coverage plan, in addition to "Small Claims Plus+". Feels like being nickel and dimed for basic service.

Please save your time and money and dont use this company.
First hearing: the team provided me with incorrect information to attend the Fontana courthouse instead of the Joshua Tree courthouse.
Second hearing: Cape- Failed to serve the other party
Third hearing: Cape- Failed to serve the other party in a timely manner
I was supposed to be done with my small claims in September of 2024 and now its March and I have to start over since Cape failed to do their work properly.

Terrible, horrible, horrible company. Where do I even begin?
I started my case in September 2024, and to this day, they still haven’t done anything—yet they keep demanding more money. This was supposed to be a simple eviction letter for one of my tenants, but they have done nothing but delay the process.
They are nothing but scammers, taking money without providing any actual service. Stay far away from this company!

We started out so hopeful for a demand letter, which ended up a disaster from the start. It took over a month to get it to us, after agreeing to write it for $650, not the suggested price in the advertising. After many contacts we finally got first draft and it was BAD. There were so many errors including obvious ones with dates and grammar. It was definitely cut and paste. I had to send it back three times and each time we waited a week for a response back. I finally told them to do the final simple correction and deliver immediately. We waited for another month, not hearing a thing. We assumed that the defendant never responded. We were ready to go with another lawyer and sue, but decided we better contact first. They had the response, but never got it to us. After nicely complaining to them about all of this and hoping we could get something for free, they again put us on hold saying that our case was expedited and they were waiting to hear. I had to call again and again and finally we got an offer from a different attorney to do the negotiation for $700. This process started in September and just ended in February. We’re done.

Thanks to the professional guidance and attention to detail, Cape Law helped us recover 100% of damages to our property during a fiber optic installation throughout our entire neighborhood.
The fiber optic company gave us the runaround for two months refusing accountability/responsibility. Our HOA was extremely distant in wanting to get involved as well.
I googled small claims attorneys and found Cape Law. My husband and I could not afford to be taken for a $9000 electrical repair four days before Christmas 2024. I did the work they requested which was gathering information to make a fast and effective resolution. You have to be patient and “listen” to the advice they provide. They are the experts. Patience pays off.
We will definitely use them again if necessary. We have also shared their information with many of our friends.
We can’t thank Cape enough for making our outlook on 2025 totally do a 360! If you need help, Cape Law is who to contact!

Complaint for Cape Law PC
This company is a scam set up to string out monthly fees and never deliver services. They were hired to help with a dispute with a contractor, that, coincidentally, also took money and never delivered a glass shower door installation.
When requesting any info from Cape Law, expect to send 8-10 emails spanning over weeks before getting a response. I have huge email chains as evidence of the ghosting from this company. I find out that the case was filed and re-filed multiple times because of lack of response.
No response at all on justification of the discrepancies. No answers to emails at all. This has been going on for months and months. I wish I went to ChatGPT and Google AI much sooner. They summarized the large amount of complaints against this company for the exact same thing. It's basically just a scam for dragging out monthly fees.
I made sure to handle as much as I could through email, so that I have a record. I have amassed over 42 emails of evidence in this scam.
As you can see in the other Trust Pilot reviews (and plethora of BBB complaints), Cape Law will try to flip this on the customer and blame them instead. I’m sure that they will attempt to do that here as well!
They have already tried this multiple times in my BBB complaint with them, stating things like: “As a pro se litigant, notices from the court, including trial dates, are sent directly to you. We understand how this process may have been confusing and how it might have led to you missing the initial trial. To assist, we went ahead and refiled your case to help you move forward."
However, that’s easy to dispute with their own communications:
Rep Tayo: “Thank you for reaching out. We wanted to inform you that we should have a hearing date for you within the next week or so. Please note that we are *actively monitoring updates* from the court and will notify you as soon as the date is confirmed.”
Failing to deliver service is one thing, but blaming these failures on the customer is just despicable behavior.
Lack of responses and actions as promised is the norm for this company to drag on the case and keep charging the monthly fees.
Edit after response:
You didn’t address any of the concerns. You attempted to shift blame, which was easily disproved by your own emails. No acceptable resolution was offered, which makes sense because your scam relies on collecting those monthly fees.
I suggest that everyone else reading this who was also scammed to start reporting this to the FTC, scam alert websites, and the Better Business Bureau to finally shut these guys down.

I would not use this company ever again. The actually used chat gpt to write a demand letter and send it to me. I could tell because it wasn't even reviewed by them because of obvious mistakes. It was insulting. So I denied it. Then they charged me almost 700 dollars plus I bought the monthly option and the next demand letter was sent with the wrong statutes. I asked them to resend it correctly and was told no. They don't have "Time" this company is a fraud. I would never use them again It seems to me to be a fraud. The response is false. You wrote in the letter that it was discrimination. It was NOT, it was wrongful termination. What would it really take to fix that and resend the letter. Read every email I sent. I said wrongful termination and that I definitely wanted to go to trial. The company literally does this. Writes an email and then it's over. I couldn't even respond to the response. That's the only reason I even left the review. Point proven

An issue that I had been fighting on my own for over 2 years to no avail was resolved within 30 days of hiring Cape Law PC to file in small claims court for me. I had all but given up on going against "Big Computer Company" and was ready to count the almost $4k spent a loss when I figured, what's a few hundred more? Maybe I'll get something back.
My free consult with Cape Law got me to the right attorney to file on my behalf and I'm appreciative for all they did for me. The documentation (advice - if you're unhappy with a company, save ALL documentation and stop communicating via phone, do it all through email) was sent quickly and I was immediately contacted to drop my small claim lawsuit with offer of a full refund on my faulty product. Each rep I emailed with was helpful and got back to me in a timely manner.
