Extremely Disappointing Customer Service Experience
I have never experienced such a frustrating customer-service process with an airline.
I purchased my airline ticket through the Capital One Travel website, and I was directed to Caribbean Airlinesâ website to purchase checked baggage. I paid the baggage fee directly to Caribbean Airlines.
After having to contact Caribbean Airlines just to get an actual receipt, I was shocked to see that the receipt stated that my baggage would be âon standby.â This was the first time I was made aware of this. I called Caribbean Airlines to find out what this meant and was told that my baggage could be placed on standby. I asked for a refund because I was not comfortable paying for baggage that was not guaranteed. I was then told to contact the third-party booking agent, even though I paid Caribbean Airlines directly for the baggage.
I sent an email and received no response.
I then tried to file a complaint through Caribbean Airlinesâ website, as instructed by their telephone recording. The website is extremely difficult to navigate and does not provide a clear option for a baggage-only refund. I tried approximately 4 or 5 times to submit the complaint. The system required an e-ticket number, and when I tried using the e-ticket number, I repeatedly received an error message stating âSome tickets not valid.â
I called 1-800-920-4225 and explained the situation to a representative. I told him that I had already tried to file the complaint online and had also sent an email without receiving a response. He told me that the baggage fee was non-refundable under any circumstances.
I find this extremely unreasonable because I was **not informed that my baggage would be on standby until after I had already paid for it. If I had been given that information before purchasing the baggage, I could have made an informed decision about whether to purchase it.
I called again and selected Option 4 for additional help with filing the complaint. The representative kept disconnecting the call. I then tried Option 9, which I understood to be for web support. I was placed on hold with extremely loud music, and the call eventually disconnected as well.
I have now tried the website, email, and telephone several times, yet I still have not been able to get a satisfactory response or even a straightforward way to address a baggage-only issue.
Caribbean Airlines needs to seriously improve its customer-service system. Customers should not have to go through this much frustration simply to get assistance with a baggage purchase.
Very disappointing experience. I hope Caribbean Airlines takes this feedback seriously and improves its communication, website, complaint process, and customer service.
