I undertook the 5 day intensive carpentry course as a complete novice, and I’ve had a great time! We made a saw horse and built a stud wall with a door frame and architrave. We fitted interior and exterior hinges, doors, locks, latches and plates. We practiced a variety of approaches for fitting skirting boards. There were detailed and practical demonstrations around tools, fixings and constructing pitched roofs. There was additional instruction and demonstration for stair balustrades and associated parts.

The tutoring on this course was outstanding. As a DIY renovator, throughout the week I asked Pete question after question after question based on some of the things I’ll be tackling at home and the advice and guidance was always forthcoming. His tutoring style is informal, knowledgable, informative, technically astute, safety conscious, pragmatic and sometimes quite hilarious. It took a while for me to realise he was encouraging us to repeat practical exercises until we understood and corrected flaws and mistakes independently before moving on to the next task, which is incredibly helpful to do in a classroom environment.

The classroom is custom built on a mezzanine first floor for this programme, to allow for a bit of noise bashing chisels and using saws without disrupting the masonry courses on the ground floor below. The provision of tools as well as the advice and guidance around using them was also brilliant.

I’ve gone from novice to an hour or two spent today planning the right approach to constructing a timber frame, attached to actual joists to support making a bigger aperture for a loft hatch at home.

With credit to Pete and the team, I’d highly recommend this course for beginners, those needing a confidence boost, and construction workers that would like to expand their skill set.

Thank you Pete and the team at CBWA, I’ll certainly be signing up for more courses as the need arises.

I came into the course with some previous welding experience but Chris and Nick were both able to tailor their teaching to suit all of us. They were able to help me with any issue I had.

Good tutors, very helpful and knowledgeable

As a first introduction into mig welding I would say this 5 day course has been more than adequate to teaching and practice. Chris and Nick make you feel comfortable and help build your confidence.

I have completed 5 day intensive MMA welding basic training. I had opportunities to weld in different positions and prepare weld specimen. I would suggest to be certain whether you just want to learn how to weld or you want to prepare for Level 2 welding as both 5 days training might differ. Welding demonstrations and guidance by instructor was helpful. I recommend it.

Just finished the intersive kitchen fitting after completing the intensive carpently with John Little walking away with some great skills from a genuinely brilliant instructor. In total I have completed four intensive courses with CBWA covering Plastering, Plumbing, Carpentrly and Kitchen Fitting that has given me the confidence to rackle the first and second fix carpentry, central heating & plumbing installation, kitchen design andf installation and dry wall and plaster for my home renovation. Each instructor was very approachable and helped with indivudual projects.

Excellent teachers with lots of help and advice

The Level 2 intensive plumbing course at CBWA has been an incredibly rewarding experience. Darren and John are extremely supportive and knowledgeable, providing valuable insights and a wealth of experience from the industry. Thoroughly enjoyable and I would highly recommend to anybody looking for an introduction to plumbing.

I attended a mig welding course, there was a lot of hands on experience and time allocated to practice welding and the different techniques. Welding facilities good, the bays for working had the tools and equipment needed to carry out tasks.

Great experience on the welding course. Tutors Chris snd mark were great, they explained everything slowly and made sure you knew what you were doing.

I did my City and Guilds level 2 diploma in plastering with CBWA and it was quite simply an excellent experience. I was trained by experienced industry professionals not only in the course material, but also in how these skills fit into the industry more widely. I was able to hone my skills through one to one time with the tutor and pick up useful tips and tricks to take my plastering to the next level. The wider team at CBWA were wonderfully supportive and professional. I would certainly highly recommend their courses to those who want to learn new skills or enhance existing ones.

Intensive Plumbing course

Just completed 2 consecutive weekends of Plumbing with Lee Rowell.

I turned up with only basic knowledge however I feel like I have gained enough knowledge to tackle my own plumbing jobs. Lee is a very knowledgeable individual and a very good tutor who delivered the training in a practical manner so that it was easy to follow and absorb the information.

Just completed the 2 x weekend plumbing course walking away with the necessary skills to build and plumb in a bathroom suite and run the pipes for central heating using either plastic or copper pipes. Friendly guidance from Lee the instructor throughout both weekends, well worth it.
