I am posting this as a former employee to share my personal experience at Crew Life at Sea.

During my employment, I found the work environment challenging, particularly around professionalism, communication, and HR processes.

After resigning, my full salary was not paid as expected. A significant amount was deducted in relation to a loan. This was done without a proper payslip, and when I requested my employment contract, loan agreement, and salary documents, I did not initially receive full or clear copies. I later received partial information and an email “salary breakdown,” which did not meet the standard of a formal payslip.

I also experienced frequent phone calls and legal warnings when I requested documentation, which felt stressful and unproductive. I believe requests for payslips and contracts should be handled transparently and professionally.

During my time there, I observed practices that concerned me, including:
• Interns working full-time while receiving minimal compensation described as a transport allowance
• Staff being expected to assist with office cleaning tasks unrelated to their job roles
• Communication with candidates that sometimes felt pressuring or discouraging

I believe the company could significantly improve by ensuring lawful salary processes, providing contracts and payslips promptly, treating interns and employees fairly, and handling disputes respectfully and professionally.

Based on my personal experience, I would advise anyone considering employment here to carefully review employment terms and ensure they are comfortable with the company’s HR and management practices.

I dearly appreciate the help I have got from crew life at sea from my recruitment interview to this day. I would like to particularly thank Chard who took a chance at me and motivated me to be confident. Every time when I needed assistance with Documents and response the team was always there ,though sometimes the response is a bit slow which becomes frustrating but it's human nature to be frustrated and considering I am not the only candidate it's acceptable and requires understanding that it will take a lil more time for me to be assisted but nevertheless I am really happy and greatly appreciate the support and assistance.

My erstwhile employer is now flexing muscle by roping in lawyers. It is interesting that it failed to live up to its undertaking to remunerate me yet it has money to pay lawyers to threaten me.

Evidently, the struggle for the African child is far from over, 30 years into the so-called manumission from white exploitation.

Thankfully we have the Legal Practice Council to protect us from legal practitioners who, paid by rogue employers, can threaten vulnerable people like me.

My rights are fully reserved, and the struggle continues.
