Extremely Disappointing and Unprofessional Service

I contacted customsdeclarations.ie in advance to arrange customs clearance for importing a BMW engine from the UK. They were quick to send me an invoice for €120, which I paid immediately, expecting a professional service.

I clearly explained I had two price options for the engine—£4,200 and £2,000—and confirmed I'd proceed with the £2,000 option. Once I received the invoice from the supplier, I sent it over as agreed. To my shock, they had already submitted a customs declaration at the higher £4,200 value without consulting or informing me.

I tried to reach them more than 30 times by phone—no answer. I even went to the address listed on their website, only to discover they have no physical office there. This makes it impossible to speak to someone in person if anything goes wrong.

Eventually, a friend of mine managed to get through on the phone, passed on a message for them to call me, but I never heard back. No replies to my emails either.

After wasting an entire day trying to fix their mistake, I contacted Irish Customs directly, only to be told that the declaration had already been lodged at £4,200, and I’d be forced to pay VAT on that amount. Even though I actually paid only £2,000 for the engine, I had no option to amend the declaration because of their error.

In the end, Customs had to call them to finalize the paperwork, but the damage was done. I now face overpaying VAT by a significant margin because of their incompetence.

Overall, a very poor, unresponsive, and unprofessional service. I would strongly advise others to stay away from this company. I’m now looking into ways to recover the VAT I overpaid due to their mishandling of the declaration.

The reason for this 1 star review is clearly explained below. The customer had an engine seized by Irish Revenue & Customs in Dublin Port. They then contacted us looking for help. The customer had an official seizure letter from Irish Revenue & Customs stating the value of the engine was £4223 and the customer wanted us to value an engine at £2000. The customer got extremely frustrated when he was legally required to value the engine at £4223 because that was the value on the seizure notice. Once we completed the customs declaration for the customer and the customer paid these taxes, the engine was released by customs and returned to the customer. This customer created a lot of anguish for the team, nevertheless we delivered a professional service to the best of our abilities.

Some additional points:

In 24 hours we exchanged 40 emails with the customer and 8 phone calls.

The engine was released by Irish Revenue & Customs in Dublin Port within 24 hours of the customer contacting us, we can usually do this a lot faster however there were huge delays due the the customer challenging the official legal value of the engine on the seizure document for the engine

The customer contacted us at 9am AFTER an engine he had transported from the UK was seized by Irish Revenue & Customs in Dublin Port.

The customer told us on the phone the value of the engine was £4223 and the Irish Revenue & Customs in Dublin Port seizure document stated the value of the engine was £4223.

It was the customer who accepted the value of the engine was £4223 directly with Irish Revenue & Customs in Dublin Port before they even contacted us, this was reflected in the seizure notice issued by Irish Revenue & Customs.

The customer then changed their story and said they paid £2000 for the engine.

The customer had no invoice or documentation for the engine and they never sent us any invoice for the engine showing they paid £2000.

We told the customer the only way to change the value was to get Irish Revenue & Customs in Dublin Port to change the value of the engine on the official seizure notice for the engine.

The reason Irish Revenue & Customs in Dublin Port phoned us directly was to make sure we cleared the engine at £4223 and not £2000.

We charged the customer a fee of €120 and the customer was invoiced at 3pm, 6 hours after they contacted us and we were assisting the customer during that entire 6 hour period. At a number of stages in 24, 3 people on our team were all assisting this customer including the managing director of the company.

This customer created a lot of anguish for the team, nevertheless we delivered a professional service and once the taxes were paid the engine was released by customs.

Really professional service

The team at Customs Declaration were great from start to finish. Really professional service and absolutely no issues with Customs or with registering my UK vehicle when I brought it to Ireland. Highly recommended - will use again!

Documents sent late Friday afternoon


Documents sent late Friday afternoon with a request to turnaround by Tuesday morning as I had a flight booked to collect the car - effectively 1 working day 😀.
Yes they achieved it with progress emails being recieved at all hours, absolute top class service and really nice people to deal with, thank you very much..
