General comment: DKV ignores the paying customer.
Specific examples of my problems with DKV:
• Changeover copayment to non-copayment (for permanent residency): DKV charged me for the new policy as well as the old despite having both policies with DKV. It took me about half a year of lengthy communications by phone, e-mail and through their patient portal to get part of the double charge back.
• Another problem with DKV that I had: DKV’s failure to refund a blood test as requested by the GP after an apparent recurring pneumonia; DKV consistently ignored all detailed information as provided to them.
• So far DKV still bombards me with advertisements although I cancelled my health insurance policy with them already for over half a year.
• My new health insurance policy, with a different Spanish health insurance company, costs me some 40% less than what I paid to DKV!
In my opinion it seems best to avoid DKV. In any case, don’t pay DKV upfront for a whole year.

Terrible compañía de seguros de salud. Mis dos hijas tuvieron la misma cirugía; solo la cubrieron para una de ellas y, para la otra, nunca la aprobaron, así que tuve que pagar yo mismo más de 2.000 euros para cubrir la operación. Además de eso, continuamente piden documentación adicional, tardan en responder y no aprueban las solicitudes a tiempo. Nos vamos a cambiar a Aegon Salud, que es el seguro mejor valorado en España.

I had this insurance for only a few months and it's been an absolute nightmare. This is genuinely the worst medical insurance company I have ever dealt with in my life.
Here are the major problems:
1. Reimbursement is a LIE
They promised to reimburse invoices within 7 days. It's been over a MONTH and they still haven't replied or reimbursed me. Zero communication. Zero professionalism.
2. Emergency Response is DANGEROUSLY SLOW
I had a medical emergency while traveling outside Spain. It took them 7 DAYS to find me a doctor. A WEEK. For an emergency. This is unacceptable and could have been life-threatening.
3. The Doctor They Found Was Terrible
When they finally found a doctor, he was incompetent and provided poor quality care. They didn't even try to find a good provider.
4. No Customer Support
I cannot reach anyone. No responses to emails. No follow-up calls. They simply ignore you when you have problems.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY
If you value your health and peace of mind, stay far away from DKV. I would not recommend this insurance even to my worst enemy. Save yourself the stress and money - go with literally any other provider.
Their promises mean nothing. Their service is non-existent. Their emergency response is dangerously slow. This company is a scam.
I am switching providers immediately and suggest everyone else do the same.

Even the answer is in Spanish!! They could not clear it in the last 2 years. Why now...?

DKV es una organización horrible e incomprensible. Apenas hablan inglés. Sí, puedes llamar a la línea en inglés, pero no te pueden ayudar o te transfieren sin pedirlo a compañeros españoles. Realmente, una compañía desastrosa. Hay que buscar un poco, pero hay seguros médicos mucho mejores, en inglés o en alemán.
Y para cancelar… también un drama. No recibes ninguna confirmación de la cancelación. ¡Quieren llamarte! Yo quiero una confirmación… ¿por qué llamar? ¡Si todo se puede hacer en español!

DKV is a terrible and incomprehensible organization. They hardly speak any English. Yes, you can call the English helpline, but they can’t help you or they transfer you without asking to Spanish colleagues. A truly disastrous company. Just look around — there are much better health insurers, in English or German.
And cancelling… just as bad. You don’t get any confirmation of your cancellation. They want to call you! I just want a confirmation… why call? Everything can be done in Spanish anyway!

DKV ist eine schreckliche, unverständliche Organisation. Sie sprechen kaum Englisch. Ja, man kann die englische Hotline anrufen, aber dort kann dir niemand helfen oder man verbindet dich ungefragt mit spanischen Kollegen. Eine wirklich katastrophale Firma. Es gibt viel bessere Krankenversicherungen – einfach auf Englisch oder Deutsch.
Und das Kündigen… ebenfalls ein Drama. Man bekommt keine Bestätigung der Kündigung. Sie wollen dich anrufen! Ich will eine Bestätigung… warum anrufen? Das geht doch alles auf Spanisch!

DKV is een verschrikkelijke, onbegrijpelijke organisatie. Ze spreken nauwelijks Engels. Ja, je kunt een Engelstalige lijn bellen, maar daar kunnen ze je niet helpen of ze verbinden je ongevraagd door naar Spaanse collega's. Echt een rampzalige club. Even zoeken, maar er zijn betere zorgverzekeringen — gewoon in het Engels of Duits.
En opzeggen… ook dramatisch. Je krijgt geen bevestiging van je opzegging. Ze willen je bellen! Ik wil een bevestiging… waarom bellen? Dat gaat toch gewoon in het Spaans!
