Dometic caravan fridge saga
I bought a coachman acadia 545 with a dometic rm 10 fridge, 13 month later the freezer compartment stopped working, contacted coachman, not our problem, warranty was with dometic not coachman, contacted dometic they said the same, warranty was with coachman not them, after much aggravation dometic finally relented and told me to take the caravan to the dealership where I bought it leasureworld in york, (200 miles round trip) they would fix it, 3 weeks later, rang them to be told nothing had been done, rang leasureworld in catterick ( their head office) they said they would collect the van from york and take it to catterick and do the warranty work in their workshop.
3 month later rang them, they had not touched it and had no intention of doing so because they would not be payed to do it, rang dometic again and they agreed to send a new innards for the fridge to my service engineer in stockport.
This they did and the new part was fitted in February 2023 ( van is now 19 months old) the fridge never worked properly after that.
Rang dometic again, they then told me to take the van to their service centre in tewksbury Worcestershire for a diagnosis, this I did, (a round trip of 275 miles) to. Be told the new innards were faulty and would need to be replaced, they put one on order and expect a delivery in about 6 weeks.
Got a call to say the new innards had arrived and a date booked to have it fitted in tewsbury, so off to tewksbury I go again ( 275 mile round trip).
1st trip out, bought some frozen food, put it in the freezer compartment and guess what? Yes it defrosted overnight with the setting on full.
The caravan is now 4 and a half years old only used a maximum of 10 outings and a fridge that is really an expensive paper weight.
I have now got to replace the fridge at my own expense, but it will not be a dometic.
