We’re sorry to read that the process took longer than you expected and that you felt communication and expectations around the placement could have been clearer. We understand how important paid site experience is when working towards the NVQ, and we do take this feedback seriously.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. We are sorry to hear you feel disappointed, though we do want to make sure the facts are clear for anyone reading, as your experience relates directly to regulated UK qualification rules that neither you nor Elec Training can override.

Before enrolling, we explained several times, by phone and email, that a degree in Electrical Engineering does not replace or contribute towards the City & Guilds 2365-03 qualification especially with no ENIC approval. This was also confirmed directly by City & Guilds and by the awarding-body guidance. To progress to the NVQ Level 3 (2357), all learners must complete the full 2365-03 unless they meet very specific criteria, which was not the case here.

You later chose to enrol on the 2365-03 course with Elec Training, after all of this was discussed and confirmed. Three days into the course, you requested to withdraw. We honoured that request and refunded your fees in line with the contract you signed.

The only deduction was an admin fee and City & Guilds registration fee, which is a non-refundable cost once a learner is officially registered with the awarding body. This is standard across all accredited centres, this was explained during enrolment and covered in the contract you signed.

Regarding expectations about work placements and NVQ progression: the NVQ can only begin once a learner has completed the full 2365-02 and 2365-03 (or decided to go down a different route ie experienced workers route or apprenticeship), and has secured access to an appropriate workplace (which as you know personally we support 100s of students each year to do) .

We genuinely tried to support you throughout, and we are sorry the qualification route in the UK didn’t match the shortcut you were hoping for. If you would like us to go back through the guidance, or if you need help understanding the correct pathway to becoming a qualified electrician, we are more than happy to speak with you.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that you feel disappointed and we’d like to provide some important context for anyone reading this.

From the outset, the progression route was clearly explained before enrolment. As someone with no prior trade experience, the agreed pathway was to complete Level 2 and the 18th Edition, gain initial site experience as an electrician’s mate, then progress to Level 3 (2365-03). At that stage, we would either renegotiate an improved rate on your behalf or support you in securing an alternative role, followed by support into the NVQ 2357 once suitable site experience was in place.

Following completion of Level 2 and the 18th Edition, you were supported into paid work as an electrician’s mate on entry-level rates, which reflects industry norms for individuals new to the trade. It’s also important to clarify that support was delayed due to waiting several months for your CV to be provided, which limited what could be done sooner.

The statement that “nobody else on the course got a job” is not accurate. Many learners from the same cohort did progress into work, as reflected in the wider body of verified reviews.

We’re disappointed to see a named member of staff criticised, particularly when there is extensive positive feedback recognising the genuine support provided. That said, we remain open to constructive dialogue and are always willing to continue supporting learners who engage with us.
