Complaint regarding the air source heat pump fitted June 2021

I have felt real injustice in the hands of this company.

1. Not completing some aspects of the original fitting up to standard.
a) Date cable fitted inappropriately, so rats ate into it. The cable should have been in a conduit or put through holes in the joist but it was just left on the floor.

Rats ate through my data cable running under the house. After 3 weeks no heating they organise for the cable to be replaced. Cost £1000. I felt that this was unbelievable but as this was new technology and you were the only ones able to do it so I would keep my warranty, I had no other option, so I paid.

The young man who came was from another company, and when I told him how much I had paid he just laughed, as it only took half an hour of his time and the cable was nothing special. Just imagine how that made me feel. To add to the injustice, he then told me he did not like going down under floors
So I went down and put the cable in myself he just connected the two ends. I’m in my 70’s so it was not straight forward, I did not have the strength to maneuver myself out of the small hole after the work was complete. The young man became very distresses and I told him to go and make himself a tea while I worked it out, which I did eventually. No refund for doing the work myself.

b) Not providing a base for the Heat pump.
Looking through the Vaillant fitting instructions there are clear diagrams and instructions showing the appropriate base. This was not done. Vaillant have had to replace the pump recently they were amazing insisting that the new one had a proper concrete base.
However I had to pay twice once for the original shoddy work then again. £600 for two men two hours, minimal material costs. Unbelievable. Again I felt I could do nothing as I was January and I had been without heating for 3 weeks it was so cold and I was lead to believe that if I got anyone else in, the work may not be of the required standard.

2. Inappropriate length taken to complete work.
a) When the heat pump was installed. 3 and a half weeks when we were told one.
b) Nearly 3 weeks when the data cable went down
This time 25 days. No help given, just requests for more money nearly £900 in the end. For a woman in her 70’s this was not what the best standard code practice advise. Luckily my neighbors found heaters for me.
c) Very short services I counted 15 mins on the last one. I think it cost me £479, I pay monthly.

3. Lack of systems that allow a death of my husband to be recorded and dealt with in a sensitive and organised way.
When a partner first dies you accept and manage the fact that many people and companies will take time to make the necessary changes to their systems. FDG need to consider this, I have told them at least 4 times not to ring or email my dead husband when I ring in needing help. Its becoming distressing.

4. Not completing the appropriate paper work.
a) Not completing the commissioning checklist or signing it off.
b) Not completing the My Service Record so I have no evidence that servicing was completed should your company go bust or I wish to change providers.

The staff are polite and friendly however the business practice is hardnosed and profit orientated, they put money before quality work and care of vulnerable customers. So far I have paid £1900 for work on this pump since it was fitted and £479 for one quick services where you didn’t even fill out the service record. You were paid well to fit this and I’m going to struggle if it keeps costing me this on a regular basis.

FDG have just replaced my older battery with a new EcoFlow smart battery. They were on time, efficient, and did a good job as always. I have used this company for several years and would highly recommend them for anything solar panel related

Excellent work, the panels look amazing and the work was completed efficiently without disturbance. They even fixed the broken roof tiles they found that we were unaware of!. Chris and Ian were especially helpful. Would recommend

Engineers arrived to undertake our annual service. They carried out the service efficiently and were professional and knowledgeable. They phoned afterwards to make sure everything was still working and that we weren’t having any issues.

FDG installed a battery, which was added to our existing solar array. It seems like a good product, with an easy-to-use app and is working well with our panels. Chris was particularly helpful when our wifi signal wasn't strong enough and the Ecoflow helpline was also excellent. We are looking forward to getting the certification that will let us take advantage of the best tariffs.

Beware of using this company. We had issues with the installation of our PV system back in 2019 which they only rectified when forced to do so by HIES, which they were still a member of at the time. In summer 2025 we contacted them about a fault in the battery and after chasing them up they sent an engineer, but only after we had paid an upfront cost of £399.99. The engineer announced that the battery could not be fixed, and spent the remainder of his time trying to push us into paying thousands of pounds for another battery. He claimed to have contacted Solax on our behalf and reported back that our battery was not covered under guarantee. In the next few weeks we contacted Solax ourselves and received very helpful advice and telephone support in setting up a dongle to monitor the battery. They were then able to replace the battery under guarantee, and we found an honest solar engineer to install it. Don’t expect this sort of service from FDG!

Now that we've had the heating on for a while, I wanted to say a big thank you to Steve, Jon and the rest of the team, for their expertise and professional fitting.

The heat pump is keeping the temperature at a constant cosy level, and keeps us with a good supply of hot water.

The solar panels have kept the battery topped up all spring and summer, and we've been paid over £400 for the excess we have exported back to the grid.
Now into Autumn we can charge the 10kW battery overnight at 6.6p per kW and most days that and the electricity from the solar panels is enough to heat and run the house.

With the EV charger, we can schedule it to charge the car for the same 6.6p per kW which means that the cost to fully charge the car is less than £5, which is good for 300 miles (so the car claims!).

We’re very happy with the service from FDG Group. Their pricing was very competitive, and everything was clearly explained before we went ahead — Stephen (the director) took the time to walk us through it all, which we really appreciated. The installation went smoothly with no issues, and what’s been even more impressive is the aftercare. About two years in, our inverter developed a fault. Stephen and Chris (the sales manager) were great — they dealt directly with the company that supplied the inverter, sorted out the repair, and got it reinstalled without us having to chase anything up. It’s all working perfectly again now. It’s good to know they’re still there to help well after the install is done. I would definitely recommend FDG Group.

FDG removed our solar panels, stored them for a few months during building work to the loft, and have just re-fitted them. Chris replied quickly to my initial enquiry and they were able to be flexible to fit in with tight timing within the scaffolding and building schedule. The replaced panels are fitted with new pigeon guards and rails (the original ones fitted by another company were not really fit for purpose), and look very neat. These - and extending the cabling - were additional costs that were mentioned up front but not quantified, so if I was doing this again I would ask for details of all the possible costs. The fitting team is really pleasant and reassuringly knowledgeable, communication was good and I can't fault the quality of the work. They kindly replaced a few broken tiles on the roof whilst they were up there too. Overall I would be happy to recommend FDG for solar panel installation work.

Excellent service completing repairs and upgrading solar panel system. All visits were on time and as promised. Scaffolding up, electricals complete and job finished in four days. Chris, Ian and John were thoroughly professional but very friendly and explained the intricacies at every stage. A bonus was their helpfulness with gutters and a loose cable while the scaffolding was up. The replacement of two faulty optimizers and cleaning the panels has made a big difference to the power generation already. Thoroughly recommend FDG.

You must read the whole review After paying a refundable deposit of £199 for a solar fault survey which was never carried out.(cancelled by phone prior to an arranged visit) I have tried numerous times to get the refund. Excuses and lies is all they are able to give inspite of them asking for my bank account number.
I note that all of their feedback on Trust Pilot reflects similar complaints and I would be very wary of this company.
You have been warned.

Why does such a good company end up like this.
If you say you’re going to do something then do your utmost to do it (even at a cost to your company)
Make sure all work is done to agreed time schedule. Ensuring the customer is fully aware of the time frame or situation and don’t be afraid to admit any mistakes.
Always be curtious and cheerful not forgetting to always be on time. If required phone the customer the day before of your arranged visit.
If the required work as extras always make sure the customer is informed at the beginning and not at the end.
Pay your workers well nt forgetting they are your best advocates of you and your company.
Be totally approachable, honest, kind and dependable.
If this becomes your motto you should be able to turn your business from a 1⭐️ to 5⭐️ inside a year.
If you do not change your ways then low ratings will destroy your name and inevitably your business.

We had another annual service for our air source heat pump. Right from the start we went through the service history, any problems etc. Chris took these onboard and carried on with the service, will minimal fuss and professionalism. He was happy to answer my questions and as usual offered sound advice. Repositioned cover on the heat pump outside, and completed the job in a timely fashion. We had a amicable conversation throughout, he even put up with our 2 year old grandson getting in on the act. Although, we kept him away for safety reasons. Chris set up the system finally so the reminder was set for next year. A thoroughly good job and attention to detail as we've come to expect. I've recommended FDG to a lot of people and will continue to recommend to all.

If I had the option to give no star rating I would. The biggest mistake ever to hire this company to do my solar panel install. Was meant to complete the first week of Feb. As part of the deal, they agreed to refelt my roof at a cost of £2500 as there would be no v.a.t. They've completed the install, however, they've gone against their promise to do my roof felt. If I've phoned them once, I've phoned them more than 30 times. I'm a 68 year old army veteran and all this has had an awful affect on my mental health. My life's been on hold for the past 5 months.

Terrible customer service and just as shocking after care. Scaffolding was left up on my house for months after install. When installing the “van keeps breaking down so it will be next week for your solar installation” very frustrating there was a lot of BS on the telephone with management.
