We were recommended HC by our builder, and I wish I had chosen the other company!

Communication was awful, we were left to liaise with what I can only describe as an apprentice working alone.

We sent our documents over promptly but they struggled to open the documents and further insisted for “monthly isa statements” which don’t exist - a member of their team confirmed this.

We had to ask questions repeatedly to get answers and they weren’t sharing documents when they had them ready - what a shock when we received them via email on a Saturday at 3pm when they were closed!

Our builders had to get involved in the end, as they were just not talking to us.

We complained to the Partner in charge of the department and actually got a chunk of our fees back, so they admittedly their liability - probably the only 5 stars thing they did through our experience.

The Worst solicitors l have known, in 50 years of dealing with solicitors.ln my experience and opinion, the partners think they are above the law.
Fairness and integrity are not words l would use with these people.They still have my own important data, records and information file(have acted for me and conflictingly against me) and have constantly refused to give them back to me, even though the ICO has requested they do so.Companies like this, should not be allowed to operate in my view.

This firm have been an absolute nightmare to deal with from beginning to end. They were appointed executors of a very simple estate, took over 3 years to deal with it. Fees were double original estimate. Lots of mistakes made which we pointed out to them.
Communication was shocking, almost non existent.
If I could give zero stars I would. Please avoid, avoid, avoid.
Complaints process useless.
No doubt this review will get a polite response for public perception - in private they are horrific to deal with.

This firm was instructed to prepare a new commercial lease. This lease was never produced !
There was little to no meaningful communication, updates never provided only emails sent to their client who is a vulnerable , partially blind elderly person who could not read them, a promised call was not returned, and after a prolonged silence and poor communication, the client was eventually given old documents that he collected that already belonged to him, rather than the work that had been instructed !
The instructed work was not delivered!
Based on this experience, the service provided was unacceptable and fell well below an acceptable professional standard and hence this solicitors can not be recommended!!
PROSPECTIVE CLIENTS SHOULD THINK CAREFULLY BEFORE INSTRUCTING THIS FIRM, PARTICULARLY IF THEY EXPECT FOLLOW - THROUGH, ACCOUNTABILITY, OR CLEAR COMMUNICATION !
This Firm of solicitors does not even deserve 1 star , like another review below it deserves minus stars , as they haven’t shown us any respect , skill, professionalism or accountability and they didn’t provide what they promised and they have dragged it on to make a ridiculous timeline due to no communication from them and we are still waiting for a lease which was paid for and they have caused a vulnerable, partially blind elderly person , stress, distress, and aggravation due to their unprofessional attitude and how he was treated as a client

Do not ever use these solicitors. One stars is to much and if I could rate them minus 5 that’s what I would have given. It has taken them over 3 years to process and distribute my poor late Dads estate and it wasn’t a big estate with no house to sell. They made countless mistakes which we had to point out, they were slow beyond slow, they didn’t care about us and our financial hardships and then they had the audacity to double our bill!!! They are an absolute joke and my poor Dad would have been devastated if he knew that he was being treated in this way.

I was a co-executor of my parents Will dealing with the Private Wealth & Inheritance department. As a former Chartered Surveyor used to dealing with Solicitors, I found virtually all staff arrogant and contemptuous with overly intense fee charging plus the service provided was extremely poor, this firm should come with a Serious Health Warning. I would award zero stars if this were possible.

Holly and her team were brilliant from start to finish. I was able to contact Holly via phone or email whenever I needed to. She provided updates in a very timely manner and had a wealth of knowledge and expertise which was so helpful during the process. It was our first time selling a property and second time purchasing a property and we are so thankful we chose Herrington Carmichael to act on our sale and purchase. They helped push through exchange and completion when our buyers solicitors were much slower. Holly responded to enquiries incredibly quickly and kept in touch with our estate agent and developer in the background to ensure a smooth transaction. We are so grateful to her and her team for getting the transaction completed so efficiently. I would definitely recommend to anyone else looking to buy and/or sell a property.

I was in a time pressured situation to purchase a new build home, with a strict deadline. From the first time I spoke to HC, they were absolutely excellent - all queries answered straight away, communication was great - everyone I spoke to (Mary-Jane, Emily, Jessica) knew their stuff & did what they said they would do. We ended up being in a position to exchange earlier than we had to be, because HC were so on top of the legal work. I would be happy to recommend them for conveyancing.

This firm became my mother's executors having bought the practice of a retired solicitor who was a trusted family friend. The estate was of relatively low value consisting of only five principal assets and I suuplied details including account numbers for all five. There was no property to sell and no Inheritance Tax to pay. Despite the simplicity of the work involved their first attempt at a final statement completely omitted one of the aforementioned assets: eventually it took over two years to finalise the estate and over £9,000 was charged, including VAT.
I complained to the Solicitors Regulation Authority who were not interested. I then complained to the Legal Ombudsman. After two years I was awarded a token amount of compensation for 'poor service'.
The lessons to be learned from my dreadful experience are: DO NOT allow this firm to become your Executors and insist they renounce if you are the principal beneficiary of a family member's or friend's estate, and, Do NOT expect any help from the institutions that are supposed to police the solicitors' "profession".

We have recently appointed Herrington for conveying our first home. The initial experience is really bad. We showed interest in meeting our solicitor but was told it's chargeable. Is this firm an online only law firm? Quite transactional, and zero empathy or willingness to help.
Were sent a few forms written in legal language, the request to discuss them to make an informed decision was refused (asked for more money).
Feels like they are more of a solicitor for my builder and not me. Should have hired a local solicitor. Hope further interactions improves.

I strongly advise anyone considering this law firm to think twice. My experience was extremely disappointing — they come across as more interested in racking up billable hours than actually supporting their clients. Every interaction felt transactional, and genuine care or commitment to resolving my issue was completely absent. They drag things out unnecessarily and offer little real guidance, just vague reassurances that conveniently lead to more billable time.

If you’re looking for a firm that truly has your back and puts your interests first, look elsewhere. This firm is all about their bottom line, not yours. I regret ever trusting them with my case.

Herrington Carmichael handled the conveyancing for my sale and purchase. Their initial welcome pack was very thorough and initially overwhelming, but they were able to explain what was required and as soon as they had all they needed, they got straight to work. Within a very short time they sent a search pack and draft contracts and communicated thoroughly throughout, on both sale and purchase.

They wasted my time, they delayed my process of buying a new home, she didn't give us clear instructions, I have to start over again after one whole month of delay.

it is nearly a year since I posted a Trustpilot review and HC accepted findings from a formal complaint - but further errors are still being made and as a result matters are not resolved. We have discussed going to the Law Society but, as HC will recognise, that is a whole new process of time and distress - just don't use HC

This is by far the worst firm I’ve ever dealt with. They don’t even deserve a single star. I would strongly advise against using this firm if you’re looking for reliable legal service concerning property purchase. Unfortunately, I went with them on a referral from the property developer when purchasing my property, and I had no idea how unprofessional and shady they were until I experienced it firsthand. They charged me an exorbitant amount of money for virtually nothing, and their incompetence has led to significant financial issues. Their in-house complaints procedure is frustrating to deal with, they try to brush off the complaints and side with their staff no matter how incompetence and unprofessional they were. The incompetence, disrespect and lack of communication was staggering, considering the grave importance of buying and selling property.

Fantastic service, we have used the conveyancing (new build) team twice now and they have been consistently brilliant. They kept us updated all the way through and the price was very fair. Thank you!
