Honitongardencentre レビュー

Lovely! Well-stocked with a wide range of great looking plants. Lots of fabulous pots and a shop full of gifts, garden furniture and pet supplies
Helpful, friendly AND a cafe with bacon sandwiches 😊😊😊

I’d been looking for Red Robin trees, good compost for them, posts and tree ties and had the worst experience at another garden centre. My sister took me to Honiton Garden Centre to see if they had any and I cannot praise the staff enough. The gentleman I spoke to on that day was so helpful, he was able to tell me exactly what compost I’d need and also told me they could order in my trees which they did. They kept me updated as to when they were due in and I was able to pick the ones I liked. They also arranged delivery for me and they arrived today with the compost, posts and ties. The delivery driver was also so helpful and lovely. I cannot recommend the garden centre more, to be treated so kindly and helped properly was really wonderful after the experience I’d had elsewhere.
I also visited the Cafe on my first visit and again the staff were absolutely lovely.
I’ll be back for sure.

This is a reinvigorated version of the previous café here so my wife and I popped in for a light lunch on a warm day in early spring. I was impressed with the outside tables as they are shaded from the Sun and that suits me. Neighbours told us it was worth a visit so here we were.

I went to the counter to order, as requested, and was served by smiling Binnie; so far so good. My order was two teas, a teacake and a cheese scone. 'I'll bring that down if you would like to go out and find a table.'
My bill was £10.50; perfectly reasonable. I was not offered a receipt.

Well the other 'waitress' had now launched into the practised method of identifying to which table orders needed to be taken. That was shouting out what she had in her hand and seeing which customer jumped in response. Bit of a conversation stopper! 'Not the best way to do this part of the job', I thought. Seems to me that a table number, or order number, on a card works well and is silent, but no matter. There was worse to come.

They were badly short staffed. The reason given, 'we have new owners.' 'Oh dear, what a pity,' thought I.

I think one, or possibly, two in the kitchen and two serving, taking orders and payment, taking orders to the tables, clearing the tables. I saw no table cleaning done, and we were there for more than half an hour. I know it was a busy time at around 1 o'clock but tables do need a hygiene wipe between customers. I did not see a Hygiene Certificate on display but that does not mean that they don't have one but legally it should be clearly on display as far as I know.

WILL YOU RETURN?
We will come back in a couple of weeks to see if there are any improvements and if there are I will happily update this review.

UPDATE
25/05/2026. As promised we did return. Much improved; no 'shouting out' and tables are numbered with the usual wooden spoon idea. Looks like TP was helpful. Enjoy the summer.
