We have looked into the circumstances described in your review, and unfortunately, the information provided is not accurate based on the records available to us.

The pet referred to in your review is not registered on the Identibase database. As a result, we have no access to a record for this pet and therefore no ability to see when or where its microchip may have been scanned. We would therefore be unable to provide, withhold, or otherwise act upon information relating to a scan that has taken place outside of our database.

We appreciate that situations involving missing pets can be extremely worrying and emotional, and we completely understand why owners want clear information about what may have happened. However, it is important that any information shared publicly is accurate, particularly when it relates to a missing animal and the efforts being made to reunite them with their family.

Animal welfare is at the heart of everything we do at Identibase. Our teams work incredibly hard to support missing pets and their owners, respond to reports, issue alerts where appropriate, and do everything within our role to help reunite animals with their keepers. We take that responsibility extremely seriously.

We would be very happy to look into any specific concerns if you believe the pet should have been registered with Identibase or if you have information that suggests we hold a record for the microchip in question. However, based on the information currently available to us, this pet is not registered on our database and we have no access to any scanning information relating to it.

We hope this helps to clarify the position and, most importantly, we sincerely hope the pet is safely reunited with its family.

We’re sorry to hear that you feel you did not receive the support you were looking for, and we would genuinely like the opportunity to look into your concerns in more detail. We always aim to respond to customer requests and provide appropriate support, so if you contacted us and feel that your query was not dealt with as expected, we would like to understand what happened and investigate this properly.

There does also appear to be some confusion in your review between registration and a Transfer of Keepership, as these are two separate processes.

If a microchip is already registered to another keeper, the pet cannot simply be registered in a new person’s name as though it were an unregistered chip. A Transfer of Keepership is required to formally move the existing registration from the current keeper to the new keeper. Until that transfer has been completed, the existing keeper remains recorded against the microchip, which is why the pet would not yet appear as being registered in your name.

We appreciate that this distinction may not always be obvious, and this is something our team is always happy to explain and guide customers through.

The Transfer of Keepership process is also different from simply registering a new microchip. The charge reflects the work involved in safely and securely transferring an existing registration between keepers. This can include reviewing the existing record, contacting the current keeper where required, obtaining the necessary consent, dealing with refusals or disputes, carrying out appropriate checks, and ensuring that the transfer is completed correctly and securely.

There can also be circumstances where additional information or investigation is required before a transfer can be completed. This is important because microchip records play a significant role in helping identify pets and reunite them with their keepers, and we have a responsibility to ensure that changes to those records are handled appropriately rather than simply changing a keeper's details without the necessary checks.

We understand that a charge for a Transfer of Keepership may not be what a customer expects, particularly if they believe they are simply registering a pet. However, the process involves considerably more than creating a new registration, and the checks and support provided are there to help protect the integrity of the microchip record and, ultimately, the pet.

Most importantly, animal welfare is our number one priority. We want to make sure that microchip records are accurate, secure, and useful when they are needed most, particularly if a pet becomes lost or goes missing.

We would really welcome the opportunity to look into your individual circumstances and understand what happened when you contacted us. If you could get in touch with our Customer Services team and provide any relevant details about your previous contact with us, we can review this and make sure your concerns have been properly considered.
