No renewal warning and same-day refund refused

I received no warning that my €1 trial would result in a €78.69 charge. I cancelled immediately after noticing it, without using any Premium features, and requested a refund that same day.

Support merely disabled auto-renewal and claimed I was “very far outside” their 30-day refund guarantee, despite the invoice showing that the new billing period began that very day. The receipt also describes this as “Payment 1 of 2”.

The subscription and billing process feels deliberately misleading.

I simply wanted to download a document that was offered to me for CHF 1.00. Since I didn't have an account, I selected "Login with Google" from the available login options. I was then offered payment via PayPal, which I accepted.

After paying CHF 1.00 (and successfully downloading the document), I received an email informing me that I had subscribed to a "Premium Subscription" for CHF 179.00 per year!

The entire process was completely opaque, presumably hidden somewhere deep in the fine print. I never saw a clear and explicit question asking if I agreed to an annual subscription!

I cancelled auto renew and I was still billed a year after my first payment for double the amount of money without notice. By law, companies must notify customers of subscription auto renewal 45 days before the billing date and Academia.edu didn’t. Avoid this fraudulent company.

DO NOT SIgn up for the free trial - the information report I got back was irrelevant then they charged me $169 for a subscription to my credit card and they won't refund it - they say it helps with research - I am going through a very hard time with a grandson with cancer and I CANNOT afford $169US for a unauthorized charge and PAYPAL wont step in as they said it is a subscription - both are scammers!!!!!

è assolutamente un sito truffa. non ti segnalano il rinnovo dell'abbonamento e poi ti accreditano 157 euro. Gli articoli e i saggi sono ripetitivi fino alla nausea, cerchi un argomento e ti ripropongono lo stesso saggio all'infinito. esigo immediatamente il rimborso

Oggi ho trovato un addebito automatico di € 129 MAI AUTORIZZATO. Non ricordo nemmeno come io sia venuta in contatto con questo sito, se avessi deciso di investire 129 euro me lo ricorderei. Evidentemente ci sono clausole nascoste.
