Most people initially preferred IntaSend over other payment gateways because of its instant settlement model, which gave businesses faster access to their funds. Unlike platforms such as Paystack, which typically process payouts only twice a week, IntaSend allowed merchants to receive money almost immediately after a transaction was completed. This was a major advantage for SMEs and event-based businesses that rely on fast cash flow to operate, restock, or execute services in real time.

However, the recent introduction of a 72-hour clearing period per transaction has significantly reduced this advantage. Instead of batching transactions together for settlement, each transaction is now treated individually, meaning funds are released based on when that specific payment was received. As a result, if multiple transactions come in at different times, each one is held for its own separate 72-hour period.

This creates serious cash-flow challenges. For example, if a business receives 10 transactions at different times, each transaction will clear at a different time, making it difficult to plan withdrawals or meet operational needs. While withholding funds for potential chargebacks or risk management is understandable, a more efficient approach would be to isolate only the flagged or high-risk transactions and release the remaining cleared funds for withdrawal.

By holding all funds individually for 72 hours, IntaSend loses the speed advantage that originally made it more attractive than competitors. For many businesses, this change makes the platform less reliable and less practical, especially for high-volume or time-sensitive transactions where liquidity is critical

We built our platform specifically to address the liquidity challenges that SMEs and event-based businesses face, and we recognize how critical fast access to funds is for your operations.

The 72-hour hold is primarily a regulatory requirement, not a policy choice. Payment service providers in Kenya must maintain safeguards against chargebacks (which can occur 120-180 days after a transaction), fraud, and disputes. This applies across the fintech industry, though not all providers communicate it as transparently.

That said, we don't take a one-size-fits-all approach. Settlement terms can be adjusted based on your business model, transaction history, and risk profile. We've made exceptions for businesses with strong track records, and we're absolutely willing to review your account to see if we can offer faster settlement or batched releases.

Avoid IntaSend if you value your money, client and business

I've been using IntaSend since 2021. They used to be a promising platform for freelancers like me. But recently, they’ve turned into a complete nightmare.

After receiving a payment from my client using their “Request Money” feature, I was immediately hit with a message saying:
"You’re seeing this message because you have one or more transactions currently under review. Once the review is done you will be able to withdraw the collected funds," and I couldn’t withdraw. That review never ended.

I contacted the support multiple times, only to be told later that my account was closed due to “suspicious activity.” No proof. No warning. Just locked out, with my funds still held.

When I asked for a refund, they introduced a surprise 2.5% refund fee, a fee that was never listed anywhere on their site or terms. They told me I’d receive my refund within 72 hours
 instead, they attempted to charge the client's and my card again.

Support is useless. Delayed, scripted replies or complete silence. No escalation, no explanation, just frustration.

If you value your money, your clients, or your business reputation, stay far away from IntaSend.

This isn’t just poor service. It’s unacceptable behavior. For a financial service, transparency and reliability are non-negotiable. IntaSend has failed on both fronts.

I am completely disappointed.
