Lack of Communication and No Value for Money.
I'm a college student who brought my laptop in for a repair after it suffered water damage. The whole process took about three weeks. I paid â¬45, which I was told was a deposit, and was told the assessment would take no more than three days. Over a week later, after chasing for updates myself, I received a call telling me my laptop was unfixable, but the person on the phone said they couldn't tell me anything further until the manager was in, where I asked for a follow up when he was. When no follow-up came, I had to call into the shop again. The same person then explained the issue and offered they could transfer the contents of my laptop onto a hard drive, which I accepted.
Another week passed with no contact. I called in once more and I was told my hard drive was ready, something I had not been informed of. I then discovered there was a fault with the hard drive itself, so I had to leave it with them for another few days. While I was waiting for that to be sorted, I received a text offering to transfer my files onto my temporary spare laptop for an additional â¬45, a charge I felt was inappropriate given my experience, also considering in the end it took me 20 minutes at home. I was then charged â¬50 for the hard drive, with no prior mention that I would be paying for it. It had been presented to me as a solution, nothing I would be paying for. At this point I was also told the â¬45 I had originally paid wasn't really a deposit but a "minimum labour cost" which had never been explained to me upfront. When I expressed some hesitation about the cost where I assumed the drive would be covered in the deposit, I was spoken to in a patronising way that I really didn't appreciate.
I got my laptop when I first called in to collect the drive, but my USB receiver for my mouse which had been left in the laptop was missing. It took three separate times to ask about it, and each time I was told to come back while they kept looking. On the third attempt, when I said I would need a replacement if it couldn't be found, it turned up within the hour.
Altogether, I paid â¬95 to have files transferred onto a hard drive, and turns out some of the folders are empty, though I can't face going back again to sort it out. Communication throughout was very poor. I asked multiple times for them to contact me with updates so I wouldn't have to keep coming in, but I ended up leaving college early on several occasions just to get information. As a student, not having my laptop was extremely stressful, and the whole experience left me feeling frustrated.
For simple services I cannot say, but for extensive work, call somewhere else.
