So my son saved up his hard earned money from a summer job last year(he was 14 at the time) so he could buy himself a crossbow to use for the 2025 archery season and beyond. Because of the grueling high school football schedule he only got around to purchasing it mid October. He decided on a Killer Instinct Tempr x. He used if for a short while, maybe three weeks that was left of that archery season. Maybe fired 25 shots out of it, all sighting it in. Did not make a deer harvest with it. This year rolls around, he fires maybe 5 practice shots to make sure it was good to go totaling about 30 shots from the bow. So the other day he’s sitting in the tree stand and he hears a loud snap. It was one of the limbs from the bow snapping in half. He was heartbroken. I told him not to worry, we will take it to Lancaster archery supply where it was purchased and they will fix him up. Should be covered considering the bow was less than a year old, very minimal shots fired. Lancaster archery tells us they will take care of it, they will contact the manufacturer and sort it out. So I talk to Lancaster archery today, a week after dropping it off. They say, yep, they are sending us a new limb this week. They charge us 159.00 for new cables and string, what was wrong with the original stuff I have no idea, being 30 shots old, and for “warrenty”. This is complete garbage. Both Lancaster archery, for standing by the product and killer instinct, for sending out faulty merchandise can get bent. Never again. Their product is puke as is the retailer selling it. Thanx for ruining my sons entire 2026 archery season.

Worst experience ever buying a new crossbow!
Academy was no help at all when the crossbow shattered on the 2nd day! And their only advice was to contact the manufacturer!
And the manufacturer ( Killer Instinct) never responded to my registration of the crossbow, and won’t even answer the support phone line! Yes, I left messages, which have gone unanswered!
I got it home, assembled it. Registered it. And shot 6 bolts through it, while sighting in the scope. (End of day 1)
Next morning I go into my deer stand. I cocked the bow, loaded a bolt and waited from 6:45 am to 10am. Nothing showed. So I discharged my bolt into my field target. Went about my day.
I returned around 4pm.
Cocked the bow. Loaded the bolt, and sat down. And wouldn’t you know, about 30 minutes later, here comes 4 doe up to my feeder!
About the same time as I’m watching these deer walking up, I hear a cracking noise! And I look over at my bow right as it SHATTERS!
2nd day…7 bolts thru it!😡

Forget Academy & KI Crossbows! Both are bad businesses!

My fiery HD 400 has shot less than 20 bolts. It exploded and I have tried multiple times to reach the company and no one will respond. Now im out 300.00 plus tax and could've been seriously injured.

Going in for the 4th set of limbs.. have never had a set of limbs make it past 20 shots.. have barnetts and Ravens and ten points with no issue but these things are cheap garbage and company knows the limbs are trash. Bone collector model

I fired 5 shots with the crossbow, using KI bolts and the crank cocker. On the 6th shot, the string broke. I am not a newbie - I've had crossbows for 25 years. This is my 5th bow. I wanted a narrow, easy to handle bow. I'm hoping service will be good.

I recently purchased a Killer Instinct HD 415 crossbow from Dunham’s Sports. I was able to get a beginner’s package on sale that was quite impressive and did not break the bank. The crossbow needed some assembly. And if I can do it anyone can! The box also contained three bolts (arrows), a hand crank cocking rope, rail lube, and an illuminated scope. After assembling the crossbow, was able to shoot a 4 inch grouping at 35 yards and my 12 year old son shot about the same. The cheap bolts I bought for practice were far less accurate than the three that came in the package. The issue I had with the package is the weight of the crossbow. It does not come with a sling or a case to carry it in. The mounts for sling are attached to the stock. so a sling can be attached without any fuss. Overall, this is a fun and economical way to go if you, or somebody you love, wants to get involved with archery.

Don't trust there warranty. If you do not register it within 60 days they will not stand behind their product. Crossbow was used very little and the frame crack that's made out of plastic. Spend a little more money and go with a better brand that will stand behind their goods.
