​Deceptive Marketing and Fake Warranty Support

​Pros: None.
​Cons:
​Coating/surface failed almost immediately under normal use.
​Food permanently bonds to the center of the pan.
​Customer service relies on automated scripts and deceptive technical loop-holes to deny claims.
​Review:
I purchased the 12-inch "Carbon Nonstick" Frying Pan under the impression I was buying an item with a high-performing, proprietary nonstick surface as explicitly advertised by Misen. Unfortunately, after very minimal use and strictly adhering to their official care guidelines, the cooking surface completely degraded, became heavily rough, and began causing food to permanently burn and bond to the center.
​When I reached out to customer support, the experience went from bad to worse. I was met with scripted runarounds demanding 1-to-2-minute videos of my cooking process to prove my "technique" wasn't the issue. When I pushed back because the metal itself was physically damaged, management stepped in and explicitly told me that the pan "does not have a traditional nonstick coating" and has "no coating that can fail."
​It is completely deceptive to market a product as "Carbon Nonstick" to induce consumer sales, only to change the definition post-purchase to claim it has "no coating" in order to deny a warranty review. To make matters worse, support instructed me to use abrasive steel wool to clean it, while their official policy simultaneously states that surface abrasion and sticking void the warranty.
​Misen refuses to stand behind the structural integrity of its cookware. I have filed formal complaints with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and the FTC for unfair and deceptive business practices. Avoid this company and this product line.

I did a lot research about the next set of pans I would buy and settled on Misen. Very disappointing. Eggs stick even when I use avocado oil, not spray since this is not recommended by the company. Pans are thinner than expected. I bought some hexcad pots and they are amazing.

Our Carbon Nonstick cookware is different from traditional Teflon-style nonstick pans. Its nitrided carbon steel surface is naturally nonstick, so it requires a different technique—preheating the pan and using enough high-heat oil are key for the best results.

Misen customer support experience is done right

I had an issue with my order and contacted customer support for help. Holly ( from Misen ) assisted me throughout the entire process and made what could have been a frustrating situation surprisingly easy to resolve.
She was professional, responsive, and clearly committed to finding the best possible solution. What I especially appreciated was that she did not just answer my questions, but genuinely tried to help and made sure I received the best outcome possible.
I was genuinely impressed by the level of service Holly provided throughout the entire process. She went above and beyond to help, and it is clear that Misen as a company stands behind its customers by having people like her on their team. Experiences like this are exactly what builds trust and leaves a lasting positive impression.

Love Misen's products and customer service

I've been buying products from Misen since I saw a Kickstarter release of a Chef's knife several years ago.

Next, I bought a Carbon Steel pan from another Kickstarter campaign they had. That pan is beautiful and, for me, was a good introduction to carbon steel.

When they came out with their nitrided, Nonstick Carbon Steel pans via another Kickstarter, I jumped at the chance and ordered all three sizes. Those pans are my absolute favorites, eliminating the extra work needed to maintain regular carbon steel, cook just as well, are much lighter, and husband-proof; if you have regular carbon steel pans, you know what I mean!

Their customer service is top-notch. They respond quickly to questions and welcome feedback and requests for new products. Their Kickstarters give you a chance to get in on new products early and at a great price.

Bad pan, worse customer service

Very disappointed with not just the pan, but how Misen customer service treated me. Had lots of problems with sticking and cleaning the 10" carbon steel pan. Followed all their instructions and tips found on their website. Lodged my complaints direct to Misen and their bots simply regurgitated their return policy (I was over 60 days) and their instruction videos on care and cleaning. I did it all and was convinced the pan was a lemon. I asked to "speak" to a person, and can only assume the next several email exchanges were with a human, but could have been a bot. Anyway, got nowhere with them, and they didn't seem to care that they created a very unhappy customer. Will never do business with them again, and I would steer anyone away from them. Buy from a company that cares about their customer.

The pans should not be advertised as


The pans should not be advertised as non-stick. The instructions for seasoning is cumbersome and lengthy. Even if you manage to get to the point that food doesn't stick, which didn't happen, then one must proceed carefully since some foods will remove the seasoning and re-seasoning is called for, yearly. Seasoning is a time consuming process that needs repeating; an impractical assumption that customers want cookware that requires so much of their time before they are useful. The customer service from Misen is poor to non-existent, faulting customer misuse. The pans are expensive. I bought three for gifts and not one is being kept. All complaints were that being non-stick is just not true. Earlier, I bought several Misen knives, some for gifts, and some for myself. The knives are nice which led me to believe the quality of the pans would also be good and so also make great gifts. Boy, was I wrong!

Two issues with this pan:

1. The "nonstick" is temporary. The nitrided steel surface requires the same ongoing seasoning as bare carbon steel. The nonstick properties are entirely maintenance-dependent. It will stick if you don't baby the seasoning, or use it to cook acidic food like the company claims you can.
2. Within 8 months of normal use, the thin outer nitrided surface layer started chipping and peeling, exposing the aluminum core underneath. The light gray areas that appear are NOT discoloration. The black steel layer is physically gone, sitting lower than the surrounding surface, with raw aluminum showing through. I filed a warranty claim. Misen's support responded by telling me "there is no coating on this pan to chip, flake, peel, or come off, it's like saying stainless steel has a coating." I went back and forth with them multiple times and gave up.

Note: I tried leaving this review on Misen's own website and it never appeared. They appear to be filtering negative reviews.

On that page, we provide an in-depth overview of nitriding and how it differs from a coating or surface layer. Nitriding is a chemical hardening process that alters the surface of the steel itself—it is not a thin layer that can wear off.

We also discuss the most common reasons food may stick, recommended care and maintenance practices, and the discoloration that can occur over time. This color change is a normal characteristic of carbon steel and can happen when the surface is exposed to acidic foods, even after nitriding.

Because nitriding is not a coating, discoloration or sticking are not indications that the pan is defective. While we do not remove negative reviews, we do reserve the right to moderate reviews that contain inaccurate or misleading information about the product.

Andrea handled the issue quickly and refunded my credit card for the difference in price. Everything went so smoothly. I appreciate the prompt attention.

My experience was great with Misen


My experience was great with Misen after purchasing the 18 " roasting pan. I had an issue with the delivery being late and their response was quick and with details. I can also say that they stand behind their product because I received my first order with a few scratches. The Misen team handled the situation beyond expectations and making the experience a lot smoother than anticipated. I will definitely purchase from them again. Outstanding customer service!!! Honors Their Lifetime Warranty

Honored the lifetime warranty with no hassle even though I didn't have an order number. I purchased the pan through the original Kickstarter. I uploaded a screenshot of the Kickstarter page and a picture of the broken handle. The customer service rep asked me for the size of the pan and my address, and that was it. The replacement will ship in 2-3 days free of any charge. Excellent customer service.

I had left a not as positive review


I had left a not as positive review before because I couldn't get a replacement lid that melted. The first couple rounds of communication were AI. Once I got through to a person they far exceeded my expectations with their willingness to solve my issue. Will be a long time customer now.

No warranty on sticking for Misen trademark nonstick pans!!!

I bought a set of Misen Carbon Nonstick™ Frying Pans in December 2025 and have only used one of them. It worked wonders for a few months and by March I noticed the "nonstick magic" starting to go away. When I tried to file a warranty claim with Misen, they responded saying that "Sticking and discoloration aren’t covered under our warranty."
My bad for not reading Misen's warranty policy carefully, but it's misleading to claim that they have a lifetime warranty on their Nonstick™ Frying Pans when the warranty excludes the sticky part. What's the point of buying these pans?
