I couldn't have been happier with our two awesome guides, the two mule wranglers, and help from the resupplier on a two-week trek through the California Sierras. I had prepared myself for the rigors of the hike, but unfortunately I got hit early on by some kind of bug that made me exhausted by the physical trekking, so I was by far the slowest hiker and decided to leave the trip at resupply, a little over halfway through. Everyone was kind and helpful to me, and the two guides were superb in staying with me at my slow pace, figuring out how to plan the hikes so that the fast and medium-pace hikers were happy, and not pressuring me to leave. The resupplier picked me up, drove me back to the hotel where I had left my car, and helped me get a room for the night. I have to say that the kindness of the guides and the concern of MTSobek was awesome.

Our ultimate hiking tour to both Chile and Argentina was everything I had hoped. Not only were our guides, Andre and Lucio in Argentina, superb, joyful, incredibly attentive and caring, instructive, healthy and amazing athletes; they also shared so much historical and naturalist information that made the land's flora and fauna come alive. I loved that we all wanted to be in nature hiking so much. Most importantly, the group was fantastic! We were all in the same age group and I loved so many women who could share hiking in this beautiful place together. All the elements made this the best guided travel experience I have ever been on.

The staff was delightful, friendly, fun and helpful. All arrangements were taken care care of, which made the trip relaxing. From airport to airport we did not have to wonder what was happening or why there was a delay as they kept us informed and made sure we were prepared. While in Quito, free time in old town would have been nice. The tour was interesting but could have used time to wonder for an hour or two. The islands were beautiful and interesting with each one have it's own unique qualities. Our guide answered all the questions thrown at him. He was patient, accommodating and knowledgeable. The food on the boat was good, not great. Having a snack upon returning from the excursions was appreciated and fun. The selection of non-alcoholic beverages was limited. All in all a trip of a lifetime. I would recommend MT Sobek to anyone looking for a hassle free vacation adventure.

We participated in the Ultimate Hiking Tour of Patagonia - both Chile and Argentina. This was the most amazing trip that we have ever taken. It was truly an experience of a lifetime. Our group of 8 hikers couldn't have been better and more compatible. All 3 of the guides that we had were the best people to be taking us on this tour/series of hikes, in that there were the consummate professionals and so completely full of information about the history of the area, all of the flora and fauna, etc. The accommodates were extraordinary. We couldn't have asked for anything more. Hopefully we will be able to do yet another trip with Mt. Sobek somewhere else in the world!!

Wonderful Patagonia trip. Experienced and caring guide. Well planned program

Love this company! We have traveled with them multiple times. They employ 'fixers' in each country to help if things change. They employee local guides with extensive knowledge (nature, customs, etc.).

I greatly enjoyed the Kurdish Iraq tour because of the quality of the guides; Dr. Layton's expertise. experience, contacts nd commentary made it a memorable experience.

However, MTS should have assessed the composition of the group snd removed, or altered the hike and kayak ride.

Dr. Layton did the best he could in getting a quality guide for both....but you should have vetted the age and ability of our group, which was your responsibility, and this would have demonstrated to you that those two items could have been eliminated, At the very least the hike should have been a flatland or gentle scenic hike...the hike was scenic but very difficult for everybody...luckily one couple who could not have made it the first 50 feet opted out. Also, the kayak trip...an in snd out paddle - no scenic destination in a kayak was pointless and the shore was very difficult for everybody...snd I was the only experienced paddler.

It seems to me when you have a small group you can work more closely to customize with your local guides.

Otherwise...due to Dr. Layton, with his knowledge, experience and contcts, made the trip wonderful,

And to lend context to this review; I have done USDA work in Iraq for decades so I know the value of the experience we received.

My husband and I enjoyed a fantastic trip to Scotland in August, 2021 (of course, sunny warm weather was an added bonus). Our guide, Craig, was the best with whom we've ever traveled - he was a wealth of Scottish folklore, songs and history. The MT Sobek itinerary covering the northern mainland as well as Isles of Skye, Harris & Lewis was always interesting with varied terrain and sights. Members of the group with differing abilities were accommodated. Hotels were all comfortable and meals were wonderful. We highly recommend this trip!

Alpe-Adria was a fantastic trip. The scenery was amazing and the route picked up a variety of areas from the top of the alps in Austria through the Julian Alps of Slovenia to the coastal hills above Trieste. The accommodations were all excellent with great hosts and staff in all the inns and hotels. The meals were all great as well. Some great memories of great meals in great places with the team. The guides are critical to the success of a trip and our guides were great. They were knowledgeable on the region including geology and flora but also the history. They were also adaptable to the different strength levels of the team and, at times split the group by ability which I felt was appropriate so that it was challenging enough for those who wanted to push but fun for everyone. The guides were great how they flexed in dealing the changing rules on Covid as we moved from country to country. We always felt safe and well cared for in terms of the Covid risk. A great all around experience. I’d love to provide constructive feedback but I don’t have any to give. First rate. I know we’ll do more Mt Sobek in the future.

We love these hikes and we have been lucky enough to have excellent guides and experiences on all three of our hikes. The cultural and gastronomic experiences outside of the actual hiking have also been amazing!

The Camino de Santiago trip was amazing. The guides were well prepared, extremely knowledgeable, caring, fun to be around, and shared some fantastic stories. The arranged hikes were beautiful and interesting. And there was so much food! And espresso! And wine! We could tell a lot of care and planning went into this trip. We will definitely travel with MT Sobek again.

Wife and I have been on two MT Sobek trips in 2021 (Ireland North to South and Galapagos Adventure Cruise on Galaxy). Both were excellent…knowledgeable, personable, helpful guides, organized itineraries full days…never a dull moment

We’ve taken two journeys with MTS and had a good experience both trips.
Walking Japan was an excellent introduction into the Japanese culture.
The guides were personable, knowledgeable and fluent in English. The only criticism was lack of time to visit museums but that would have taken time from the cultural experience.
Julian Alps hiking was also a nice intro into a less traveled (at least from my American experience) area of the Alps. The accommodations were very good, the guide excellent and personable and also fluent in multiple languages. A more strenuous trip for sure but well worth the effort. Hiking trails were appropriate to the group’s experience and ability. As an aside the Covid concern was properly addressed (September 2021) and pre return travel testing seamless.
I certainly will be traveling with MTS in the future.

Best trip ever from food to excursions and the knowledge of the guides

We booked the Tour du Mont Blanc departing in September 2021. As can be expected, the lead-up to the trip was a bit nerve wracking with Covid restrictions changing constantly. We don't know if we were lucky or if it's typical, but the trip turned out perfect. We had a great guide, terrific driver, very comfortable accommodation, good food, challenging but doable routes, and the weather was good most of the time. We'd do it again in a heartbeat as it was a magnificent trip and we thank MT Sobek for the great experience.

The guides were spot on. The itinerary was an nice mix of hard days interspersed with easier days and had lots of variety. The accommodations and food were excellent . All in all not much to complain about!

We’ve hiked the Pyrenees and the Haute Route and walked the Camino. Besides the staggering beauty of the locations, the trips were amplified by highly competent and professional guides. They are the most amazing aspect of traveling with MTS. They are great mountain people with a knowledge of history, the location, and landscape. Every detail is thoughtfully managed.
