If you are looking for a small college that cares
If you are looking for a small college whose focus is on people, and really helping you as a student get through to being a confident and competent nutritional therapist then I would highly recommend the Natural Healthcare College.
This was the only college where I could afford the fees but that doesn’t impact on the quality or standard of teaching. The course is self led so you need to be motivated, but the real benefit for me was that I could work through the corse content around work and family commitments. If you’re not sure whether to commit, just do the nutrition advisor course for the first year and then you can decide once that is complete.
The final year is 100% focused on clinical practice getting us ready for the real world. It is thorough, comprehensive and leaves me feeling confident and ready to go.
I can’t thank Caroline, and all the other tutors, enough for where they have brought me over the past 3 years, I can’t believe how much I have learnt.
College than genuinely cares
I spoke to the Principal before I joined and she was very transparent about all costs and also the time needed to dedicate to the course. Stage 1 is a level 4 with level 5 elements and was not easy but I found the 1 to 1 contact calls with my tutor invaluable along with the group zoom session run by the Principal and Fiona who help with any aspect of the course and give us a lot of encouragement. The value for money for stage 1 compared to other courses is outstanding. I actually did fail one part of the course and as explained I did pay an additional fee to complete an additional case study but this was clearly explained and it was absolutely the right call and helped me complete the rest of the course and my exam. You get a lot of tutor input and I have learned so much from my times there. This is a college who genuinely cares about the quality of their graduates and the enrolment form which is only 2 pages long is absolutely Crystal clear on any additional costs. This is also clearly laid out in an initial email along with prices of books etc and also cheaper ways to go about sourcing. I feel ready to use my Nutritional Advisor in practice and am already saving up to do Stage 2 of this course. If you are not sure just pick up the phone and speak to them. there is never any hard sell and you can then decide if this College is for you.
Excellent practical course
The courses are mostly remote learning but do have minimum contact requirements with tutors and at tutorials.
You can do just the level 4 nutrition advisor course, or go on to do the much more in-depth nutritional therapist course. This is a very practical level 5 course which includes a year of clinical practice involving a lot of hugely useful and informative case study work with tutors who are also still active practitioners.
The feedback can sometimes feel hard – passing this course is no push-over – but it is always fair and constructive, and aimed at improving the way of informing and educating future clients.
I looked at other courses before doing this one and I am glad I chose the one I did. 4 stars rather than 5 only because the format of the course notes is a bit old fashioned, but I know work is already underway to improve that.
Look no further if you want a proper education!
I am close to graduate from NHC. It has been a fantastic journey! I have learnt a lot - It took me over 3 years to complete both Nutritional advisor level and Nutritional Therapist and I do not regret a single day and a single penny I have invested in my education with NHC. You get proper good and solid education and dedicated tutors who always give you lots of support, constructive feedbacks and they care. This is not a random online course, you attend tutorials and clinical practice where you work with volunteers under your tutor's supervision on a regular basis - which is extremely important because it prepares you for a real life and future as a Nutritional Therapist.
Also, just to add, yes, there are additional fees you will need to pay, but altogether it is still so much more affordable than other similar providers. Besides, you are clearly informed (before you sign anything and pay anything) by the college about all the costs and fees involved - nothing is hidden from you.
Having to join NNA is only an advantage because you are automatically a member of GNC and you can get a membership with CNCH through NNA. Extra benefit is discount with nutritional resource directory once you graduate.
I did other courses before I joined NHC so I have got some perspective... if you are looking for a quick, no hassle and easy certificate, do not want anyone to give you constructive and fair feedbacks, do all on-line with no supervision and no real practice, do a random multiple choice test then NHC is not a place for you.
Well structured courses, great tutors!
This college offers exactely what I was looking for and it is accredited. The courses are comprehensive, very well structured and the tutor take the time to thoroughly accompany students in their journey. I feel well prepared now for setting up my practice!
Agree with the other comments
Agree with the other comments. You have to pay for additional parts. Like an extra £150 for attending a workshop that is mandatory. And you have to pay to resubmit work more than twice (this is all in the small print). I have not completed the course due to refusing to pay an extra £100 to resubmit work. And the workbooks are easy to read. I am level 4 A&P qualified and found this work laid out very poorly.
The modules are badly written and seem…
The modules are badly written and seem designed to be confusing; they make an interesting subject incredibly boring. I have two degrees so I am great at studying but the information you are provided with for this course is just plain bad.
At every available opportunity this 'college' wants more money from you. You have to pay for extra time with your tutor, you have to pay extra for clinic time which you must complete to finish the course and you are required to join a professional organisation for a fee, without being told that this is the principal, Caroline's other business. I wish I had never given them a penny.
Spending precious time and money on a worthless degree
This is a comment from a past student at the College, who regrets terrible for the money and time that spent attending this so called “college” which according to me is giving away degrees – more particularly I attended the Stage 1: Nutrition advisor course- that do not represent any value for someone who wants to work at the nutrition sector. To describe my experience more particularly at the end of the course -of course after the full payment of the tuition fees…- you will find out that you are unable to work with persons that have even the slightest health problem or take any kind of medication. In a few words, you can work only with absolutely healthy persons, if you are so lucky to find such a healthy person that needs a nutritional advice… Honestly according to my experience it is ridiculous the way that students are treated and are not informed on purpose about this extremely important fact before the start of the course and the payment of the tuition fees, so they can decide if the money and time that they will dedicate really worth it.
Furthermore, I’d like to warn you again from personal experience that when I reached the final stage of the course I was be informed that my coursework is insufficient and that -as a miracle indeed- although until that moment everything was fine, suddenly(!!) I had to give additional pieces of work and -guess what!!- PAY MORE
They are really lucky because I am not from the UK but from an EU country and legally, I cannot chase them to get a refund, otherwise I would, and not only for me but I would request the protection of any future student that would be mislead by the insufficient information given by this college.
Please take my advice and be aware, let my example be your guidance and protection.
