I’ve delayed writing this review because my grandad has advanced dementia and has been very unwell, and caring for him took everything I had. I’m only now able to speak about this experience.

We contacted Nellie Supports to ask about a lasting power of attorney (LPA) mental capacity assessment. At the time, we were naive to what a power of attorney assessment involved and relied on Nellie Supports to guide us appropriately. We were open from the outset that my grandad had advanced dementia, was in hospital, and struggles to understand long or complex sentences.

Despite this, we were not provided with clear information about what the assessment involved, how extensive and lengthy it would be, or whether it was appropriate for my grandad’s situation. They
took payment of £900 over the phone for the assessment.

A representative attended the hospital and carried out a two hour long LPA capacity assessment while my grandad was clearly unwell, distressed, and frightened. Watching someone with advanced dementia be put through this process in hospital was heartbreaking and deeply upsetting for our family.

What is most concerning is that not at any point were we advised that deputyship through the Court of Protection might be a more appropriate option, given his advanced dementia. This was never mentioned or discussed.

When i later raised our concerns, the response from management was shocking. It was dismissive and lacked any empathy. No meaningful effort was made to address the ethical concerns i raised.

To make matters worse I called the office a few days later to chase a response. I was mid-conversation with the receptionist when the manager came onto the call. I again explained why I was so upset and that I couldn’t understand why on the initial phone call when I informed them my grandad had advanced dementia and was unwell in hospital that a deputyship process was not discussed. His was immediately aggressive and confrontational with me. Shouting in fact, telling me that the company just did what was asked of them.

While Nellie Supports may operate legally, our experience felt exploitative, poorly explained, and ethically questionable, particularly given the vulnerability of my grandad. Families dealing with dementia and hospitalisation are already under immense strain this service added to that burden rather than helping.

I would strongly urge families to think very carefully about using this service.

We found Nelly Supports incompetent and unprofessional, they were paid to do a Mental Capacity Assessment (MCA) and Life Expectancy report for my cousins Statutory Will application to the Courts.
The life expectancy report was wildly inaccurate stating that my cousin had epilepsy and 1:1 nighttime care and on various medication. None of which was true.
I rang them to say that it looks like you have used someone else’s MCA to make this assessment,I was asked to point out the errors of the report and send back to them. When I said it’s all wrong I was told,so you don’t want to send it back to us highlighting errors!
Following this an email was sent by Nelly Supports saying that the reason the persons name was different to the one who did our cousins MCA report was because she had got married between when the MCA report was done and the date of the Life Expectancy report. This was only two clear days a Tuesday and Wednesday.
This proved to be wrong as a week later we received a revised Life Expectancy report using the MCA report done by the original person. So it was more accurate but my cousin’s surname was misspelt 14 times.
It looked like cut and paste in sections.
Also their own phone number was wrong.

My mother has vascular dementia which mainly manifests itself as her having problems with her short-term memory. Nellie Supports was wonderfully helpful organising an assessment in the home and was so patient when it needed to be postponed due to hospitalisation. Although the purpose was to get a testamentary capacity report, the assessor flagged various issues my mother was having which meant we had a lightbulb moment as to her unusual behaviour. We had her medications assessed and one particular one changed as well as others withdrawn completely. She's a completely different woman. Thank you so much for your caring attitude.

Had the most thoughtful, reassuring assessment for our son who has ASD, ADHD and other specific learning disabilities for the possibility of LPA or Court of Deputyship. We can't thank thank the two ladies enough with how they navigated the required language with visuals, simple explanations as well as to the guidelines. I request Nellie supports service for the EHCP of my son who suffers from ASD and it was the best thing that happened to me, a plan that prioritized and recommend all the support that my son needs. Thank you for the excellent work and for making a difference for children with special needs.

Amazing how dealing with some NHS professionals can be so frustrating and stressful yet having phoned Nellie to request a mental health capacity assessment for my very old and frail mother, a video appointment was booked within the hour. My thanks to Kerry and Tahlia for their superb communication and speed in completing paperwork required and meeting a very tight deadline with the Court of Protection and to Louise the assessor who was kind and gentle with my mother in the interview. Nellie Support went above and beyond my expectations to which I am extremely grateful and I cannot recommend them highly enough. Thank you Nellie, thank you very much indeed.

I think this is unprofessional, I had a Mental Health capacity accessement Nellie Support the accessor spent about 10 minutes and she answered more than the questions were asked and when I have received the report I did not believed what she does into my report and she forget I was recorded if you want wasting your time go for it otherwise go look for better, a acessor was Mandy Davies. but not for me

Our assessor, Seanne Boyer visited my brother at his home, arriving at the appointed time after driving a long way that morning. Seanne was very professional in her manner, polite and friendly and spoke to my brother very kindly.
Her assessment was carried out thoroughly and she provided us with very detailed written reports within one week of her visit.

Thank you for all support and making a very difficult situation a little less stressful. I would highly recommend Ellie Supports to anyone needing to instruct an assessment for a relative. They are incredibly kind and attentive, their service is second to none and they are highly professional. Thank you

We asked Nellie Supports to assess a relative. This was undertaken with consideration - politeness - friendliness and professionalism. We were very pleased with how Ashleigh Reeves performed this somewhat difficult task.

Nellies are the best! They really helped me when I was struggling to complete an application for a deputyship for my mother-in-law after my husband passed away. They were able to arrange an assessor to visit her in under a week of me contacting them. Amelia and the whole team were very professional and sympathetic to my needs. Can't praise them enough!

Easily amended, corrected or clarified - after the interview, if required.
Good value - Small price to pay for peace of mind in the certainty that my wishes will prevail.
(Only regret - I won't be there to see it happen.)
