If there were more stars to give, I would. I have been a part of the Obsidian K9 Academy for over a year now, I’ve traveled up to train with Jay in person and I am going again in the new year. I have found Jay to be friendly, professional, kind and encouraging. He answers every question, no matter where he is in the world or how busy he is. Even though Jay is a keen sports dog person, I never feel uncomfortable asking questions about my small toy breed. He takes my training challenges as seriously as the people with the big sports dogs. He is an absolute inspiration and I wish I’d found him and the academy before I wasted hundreds of pounds on trainers who are not of his calibre. I absolutely recommend Obsidian K9 Academy.

I can't thank Jay enough for all his help/advice. He's extremely welcoming and you feel you can ask anything. The academy is great for asking for help posting videos, everyone is friendly with zero negativity or judgement, just lots of support and encouragement. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend obsidian.

Joining Obsidian k9 Academy for me has been one of the best decisions I have made,it has reignited my love for dog training when my mental health was beating me down,now around 8 months(April 2023) in and my training is back on track and advancing everyday,as is my study and theory of dog training.within this academy I have trained and study more than I ever did even though I train alone the academy also gave me the confidence to begin my sporting journey for real! And for this I am eternally grateful. 10/10 1000% Obsidian all day everyday!!

I cannot rate jay enough, he’s an amazing trainer who has helped me massively with my rescue German shepherd who after a bad experience as a pup before I got him is now dog reactive. He’s made an amazing online group which is non judgemental and full of really kind people and jay is responsible for making sure it stays that way. Jay has helped to give me so much confidence in my handling and my training skills and I can’t thank him enough for it.

I’ve attended a meeting at the UK tour, 1-1, an open day, and am an academy member. Balanced training saved my reactive dog’s life and working with Jay has been a joy. Since working with him I’ve had so many compliments from my family, neighbours, and strangers on the street who see us train in public. My dog has become more confident and happier in herself because I can now guide and communicate with her more clearly. Jay advocates for dogs’ needs relentlessly and will give it to you straight. I appreciate that approach because the faster we can get past the BS the faster we can start tackling the problem (usually me and my handling). He is experienced and knowledgeable, and strives to learn. 10/10 recommend working with Jay

I’m a member of obsidians online academy, I’ve never been able to travel to Jay but that doesn’t mean he gives me any less support when training my dogs. He gives you then honest truth which is so rare in the dog world. He isn’t in it for the financial gain or he could definitely charge more for his online support system and training videos! He never fails to reply to me, even when I ask stupid questions! When my dog was sick, he went out of his way to offer advice and was compassionate completely off his own back.

I have been a part of the Obsidian K9 family for around 18 months now. I call it a family as within the academy everyone is so helpful, so supportive and just wants the best for each other. There is no negativity or cliqueness that I have seen from attending many open days, seminars and 1-1 sessions. Jay is always on hand to give help and advice and it's always tailored to each individual dog. He has been amazing with my 2 year old GSD x Malinois who I can now have as a happy pet going on hikes and just living our best life together. I now have a 9 month old GSD puppy and we regularly go to the Saturday sport sessions, it has to be one of my favourite days of the week to be around like minded people who want you to succeed. Thank you Jay and the Obsidian Team, I don't know where we would be without you!

ObsidianK9 have a heap of helpful videos relating to a variety of behaviours to produce a well-rounded dog, either as pet or as sports companion. They run pet and sports classes at the weekends, open days and offer 1-2-1's, so you're covered regardless of what stage of your training you are at, the age or breed of your dog (or yourself), all are welcomed.

The discord group is very helpful, we can upload our training videos and get HONEST AND CONSTRUCTIVE feedback on them from both Jay and other obsidian trainers and the community in general, sometimes it can be hard to hear, however, you know deep down that it's a process and it's aimed to help you & your dog improve and succeed, just as any other coach does with their students.
You and your dog cannot improve if you don't know what is wrong or how to fix it, everybody needs that mirror from beginner to professional.

The discord also has sections for general chatting, weekly wins, meet-ups and a mindset which help build friendships and prevents feeling isolated on your journey with your dog, since not every dog is an easy subject & because no handler is perfect either and we are all living beings that sometimes falter.

I am female lifetime dog owner and own-dog trainer of medium/large breeds, who uses the tools that suit my dog's learning style and understanding under advise and guidance from an experienced professional that I can trust and that's no easy task.

I would like to add that obsidian is a igneous rock formed from quick cooling magma flows that is revered not for its healing properties but for it's sharp and precise edge! It was the tool of choice for may in history, most well known as arrows or spearheads and as surgical knife in ancient Egypt due to its capacity to reduced scarring to it's minimum and a material that cosmetic surgeons are returning to today for this reason.

Having been with obsidian for a while now, I cannot recommend Jay enough. Me and my dog have come on leaps and bounds in that time and without Jay and the academy that would not have been possible.
We have always been made to feel welcome whenever attending open days, group sessions and workshops we always learn something useful and go away wanting to learn more and do more. Jay is always around with helpful advice sharing his knowledge and giving guidance to help the dog.

Jay is amazing with dogs and with people! He treats everyone with respect and helps no end. I’ve been in obsidian for around 2 years and we are all one big family!
He doesn’t bully or belittle and helps you to understand your dog and yourself!
I used to have very little confidence when working with my reactive rommie but now I can work with him and walk with him no issue

Honestly wouldn’t trust a lot of people with my dogs, as with many they are my life.
Saying that, life before obsidian was tough, having reactive dogs can be isolating, obsidian has given us the freedom to have our lives back, the advice and training has not only improved my relationship with my dogs, but my mental well-being and theirs.
When trying to do the best we can find ourselves in a loop of avoidance, with many trainers encouraging permanent avoidance as the answer, we’ve learnt that things can be overcome and accomplished with the right knowledge and help behind you.
The online academy has given me the help and confidence to go forward and keep moving and having people to help through the struggles will forever be underrated, likeminded people in your corner forever encouraging you is a great feeling - obsidian gives you all that and more!
Million percent recommend

It's hard to know where to begin. I've had a reactive German shepherd come through ObsidianK9 and currently have a puppy with the academy too.

The videos are incredibly helpful. Lots of detail, explains the how and the why before showing you how to do it. Hundreds of videos covering everything from puppies and toileting to fixing behavioural issues, how to actually play with your dog all the way through to various sporting behaviours.

As well as the videos there is the discord channel to connect with Jay, other trainers and academy members pretty much 24/7. Everyone is super friendly and wether it's sport, behavioural or puppies everyone understands that people always start somewhere. No guilt trip for not knowing better, just how to move forward.

We drove over 500 miles round trip to meet Jay with our reactive dog and he was phenomenal. Answered any questions, had heeps of time to get to know the situation first. Never pressured the dog or put him in situations just so he would explode. Came up with a game plan on how to move forward. So much knowledge and has such a deep love for dogs and improving their quality of life.

Couldn't be more thankful for Jay and ObsidianK9, not just for my dogs but for all the dogs he has saved and the great people I've met along the way!

I have learned soooo much from Jay at Obsidian K9 Academy. I started here to get into dog sports and found Jay to be really knowledgeable and helpful. He also says how it is instead of telling you what he thinks you want to hear which I like, otherwise how can you learn?

I attended the Sport Training Club recently and you can tell that Jay really loves what he does. He didn’t sit down once and was truly interested in everyone’s journey. I came away with some sound advice which I have been implementing with great outcome.

What I have also found is that Jay is really open to new ideas and ways of training, obviously only if they work but he’s always willing to be proven wrong and is always learning.

Highly recommended for anyone with a dog as the videos in the academy are gold and you even get a free trial. The Discord group is really supportive and I’ve only ever met lovely people at the events.

Having followed jay since 2019 I finally started going to him for training we go to the sport classes and after 3 sessions my relationship with my dog has changed for the better really look forward to training and look forward to learning more from jay a great atmosphere

I’ve been with obsidian k9 academy for almost 4 months now (both online academy and attending sessions) this company has so far , helped me and my boy massively with his aggression . They read my dogs behaviour which I didn’t notice and helped me understand why he was behaving in such a bad manner and what he was actually struggling with . Obsidian k9 academy has done what many previous trainers have point blank failed to. And that’s just help … they really go into depth of why things are happening not just how to fix it . I now understand my dog and using obsidian k9 academy’s system both in training and out in the real world . Both me and my boy are experiencing a much better happier life together . We have a huge bond which is bigger than ever before . Obsidian k9 has changed our lives not just helped us with a super complex dog . I would highly recommend both the online academy and sessions ! By far the most knowledgable and experienced trainer I’ve come across ! And such a pleasure to work with !

Through the academy and seminars my dog has made milestones ! So much support / information from jay and he’s always willing to help :) proper dog guy who cares about his clients can’t thank him enough for the support :)

I'm a pet dog trainer myself, but I travel well over 500miles round trip to see Jay for my sport work with my own dog. It took me a long while of following Jay before I knew he was the trainer for me. Being female I didn't want macho and ego, and Jay has absolutely none of this, love his style, his honesty and openness about his own dogs, his training shows in his results. In the online academy he is supportive, always responds to videos and questions with honest feedback/responses. You couldn't ask for a better community to be apart of!

Jay and everyone at obsidian K9 has been so helpful, I originally only joined for 7 day free trial but ended up finding the money to stay it was so good. I am constantly learning and improving. The online academy is amazing for someone who works shifts as it means support is available when needed. And although current restraints mean I cannot travel to Jay I still know I have his and the teams support when needed without fear of judgment. It's the best training tool I've ever found. Has made me and my dog so much happier!

Online platform has helped me so much. Dealing with real life issues and mindset issues my dog thrives daily because of the advice and help I get daily
