The flexibility given within the tool to adjust future changes/goals is amazing. Most calculators I had used online is very rigid and provide details based on my current status only. This enables me to put in some of my future goals/changes and thus see how my finances are impacted. One improvement I would like to see is if there is a possibility to see what is needed to achieve the future goal. Say, if I have a target annual pension, can the tool provide details of how much should I contribute towards to achieve this goal?

I originally joined an OpenMoney Stocks ISA which is acquired by Octopus Money. I previously tried actively managing stocks but found it too stressful and often counter-productive, so I chose an option where it was controlled by experts.

It's been a few years since the Octopus Money transition. The management costs are still low. The site has improved and now provides more information than before on my ISA and the plan its under, while still being a site that's easy to understand and navigate

They recently offered to transfer to having a Coach/Adviser (original OpenMoney customers weren't transferred to this) which I accepted and have had 2 meetings. The adviser was warm and understanding of my personal situation. They asked what I wanted out of savings in the short and long term, and created a plan to reassure me that was possible. It felt like they listened and didn't try to fit my situation into a pre-defined form. It was helpful and I feel more secure with my savings plan generally.

My savings are relatively small but I didn't feel belittled for not being a high-earner. They seemed to be realistic in saying: "here's how we can get from where you are now, to where you want to be while taking into account the lifestyle and priorities you want while getting there". I have had previous financial advice from other places that made me feel like I was wasting their time (or worse, my life) by having lower earnings, modest goals, and not wanting to sacrifice everything else for some arbitrary savings number. Instead, this seemed a lot more realistic on what I could actually do and that it would be worthwhile to meet my aims.

I also appreciated how they showed care and respect by asking at the start of each meeting whether the scheduled end-time was a strict end for me (i.e. if I was busy afterwards) or if it could go overtime if required. I wasn't busy afterwards in either meeting but we only went overtime in the first one (by 5-10 minutes) but not the second. In both cases, I felt like they used the time well and checked throughout that I understood what they were saying and it fit with my goals. It felt like they only went overtime when it was required to make sure the information was correct, but that they would have strictly stuck to the time if I needed them to.

Kathryn was so good. Explained everything well, covered all the options, and genuinely understood the direction I was hoping to go in.
