Pete represented me at trial yesterday for, what he rightly told the court, was complete nonsense which should never have made it to trial.

He was excellent. Very friendly and knowledgeable. He had very good presence in court and easily bested the prosecution. His questioning of witnesses was deft and purposeful, quickly entangling them in their own web of lies and forcing them to stumble.

I was acquitted and the court even went so far as to state that the alleged victim had committed criminal offences against me; which made the whole case look even more ridiculous.

Pete applied for and was granted a costs order to pay legal expenses.

I would thoroughly recommend Pete. He excells at what he does and has a genuine interest in his job, acting with a verve and enjoyment that other, lesser, legal practitioners do not possess.

Really knew his stuff. Was a calming influence in a very stressful situation. He cross examined the only witness extremely well, thinking on his feet and pulling out some great admissions.
He understood a very complex case and advised very well. He stuck to facts and relevant legal arguments despite my emotional desires to “win with purpose”. We did in fact win with purpose, in a very hostile environment with a very emotional and believable “victim”.

I (and my family) cannot thank Peter enough for his legal expertise in my case. A case that should never have reached a court of law and another case where the wrong people are ruthlessly targeted – yes, targeted - by the criminal justice system (CJS) when they are initially unrepresented Litigants in person (LiP). The CPS ran what I believe to be a malicious prosecution. The sad thing is that they knew from the outset they were running a very weak case but continued with it without any proper review of the case. The CPS are duty-bound to review cases at regular intervals and also most notably not violate peoples Human Rights. The abjectly failed on both! I fail understand how the Crown failed in following its own principles, namely, ‘The CPS is committed to upholding and protecting the human rights and fundamental freedoms of everyone who comes into contact with the criminal justice system, whether as victim, witness or defendant.’ Link - Human Rights and Criminal Prosecutions: General Principles | The Crown Prosecution Service (cps.gov.uk)

There was no trial. Peter's legal arguments were powerful (and correct under the law). The court found I had acted reasonably and done nothing unlawful – and that the Crown had not followed its own codes of practice in that they had not disclosed large amounts of their evidence. It was exhibited but had never been disclosed. Dirty tricks! There was never any need for this to gone this far and the CPS knew it.

Despite my best attempts to represent myself (not through choice but lack of funds) I approached Direct Access to obtain counsel that I desperately needed. Having to borrow to fund counsel, Direct Access secured Peter's services and he very quickly identified so many weaknesses in the Crown's case including, amongst many other things, aforementioned non-disclosure of evidence and citing irrelevant evidence intended as back-door bad character - I was being stitched up, but this is no surprise as certain elements of the CJS are simply not fit for purpose. The police were inept and spiteful in their investigations whilst the CPS are happy to ignore over 60 unacknowledged emails from LiP’s and counsel – shameful! This was going on for over 3 years – whilst trying to get on with the little matter of living a life!

If you need counsel who can identify the weaknesses in the prosecutions’ case (chain of evidence) and, more importantly, recognises when the Crown are acting with malicious incompetence and unprofessionalism, Peter Gotch is as good as it gets.

Having Pete represent me at my shotgun certificate appeal in the Crown Court was an absolute blessing. Quite simply, he is a brilliant barrister.

In March I was arrested for ABH and criminal damage. I was later charged with Common assault and criminal damage. I did not do what I was accused of but found 'the system' to be rigged against the defendant throughout.

I made contact with Pete and from the outset his calm demeanour and abundant legal expertise gave me a sense of reassurance and a feeling that all was not lost.

Over the course of the five months that it took to come to trial, Pete was readily available and unfailingly helpful. He listened intently and got a thorough grip of the details surrounding my case.

Like a grand master chess player he was always several steps ahead and created several avenues of defence. This was invaluable as it gave me confidence that no matter the result, I would get a robust defence, with no stone left unturned.

As we approached trial he carefully manoeuvred us into a position where disclosure failures on the part of the CPS would be exposed. Thankfully on the day of the trial, Pete put forward a compelling case to the Magistrates around the lack of public interest in pursuing the case and the necessary legal implications around failures of disclosure. This resulted in the case being dismissed and a fair and just outcome.

Put simply, Pete is a master of his craft and if I was ever unfortunate enough to be in a similar situation, I would not even consider speaking to anyone else.

Peter completely distroyed arrogant police officer Casey. Best Barrister for all motor offence cases. I will always instruct peter for all my motoring matters in the future. Nailed both charges!

Peter Gotch defended me in a criminal matter where the CPS had authorised a charge where clearly they shouldn't have, it was concerning a rather unsavoury family matter where I myself was a victim of coercive and controlling behaviour which disappointingly the Police and CPS gladly and joined as willing accomplices to the coercive and controlling behaviour. This happens a lot in matters that find their way to the family courts where dishonest allegations are encouraged by unethical and unprofessional family law Solicitors. Peter was amazing from the minute he was instructed and secured charges being dropped where I feel if I had not had the services of Peter the CPS would have pursued the charge even though they knew it was inappropriate to do so because it was clearly not in public interest to do so. I would recommend Peter in a heartbeat, he is maverick in his approach and sees the facts as they need to be seen which is what these situations call for.

I cannot put into words how amazing and talented Peter is as a barrister. My husband was charged with a driving offence. We originally went with a big well known motoring defence law firm thinking they would be the experts in this field. How wrong we were, the large law firm was determined to charge huge amounts of money and provide little to no service or advise. After being unsupported by them my husband found Peter via an online search. From the moment Peter was contacted to the countless court meetings Peter showed Determination, stamina, self-motivation and self-discipline. Peter demonstrated Excellent communications and interpersonal skills, alongside the ability to express arguments and ideas clearly. peter’s analytical mind and a logical approach was the reason the charges against my husband were dropped.
