Clipping is the Postiz feature I didn't know I needed
I've used Postiz for scheduling for a while, mostly because I could self-host it and connect it to Claude. Clipping is the first feature in a long time that changed how I actually work.
The workflow is simple. I paste a YouTube link into the agent and say "clip this into five shorts and draft them for TikTok and Instagram". A few minutes later there are five vertical clips in my media library, captions burned in, each with a title and a caption written from what was actually said. Drafts are already sitting on my calendar, one per clip per channel, in my next free slots.
What I appreciated most is what it doesn't do. It doesn't publish anything. Every clip is a draft, and I still open each one, fix the wording, and hit schedule. I've tried tools that push straight to my accounts and never fully trusted them. This one leaves me in charge.
The clip picking is better than I expected. I gave it a 40-minute podcast episode and it found the moments that stand on their own, not just the loudest bits. Clips never overlap, so I didn't get three versions of the same joke.
A few honest notes. The default blurs the background and keeps the whole picture, which looks fine. The crop option has no face tracking, so an off-center speaker gets cut out. I learned that once and now I stay with blur. It's also YouTube links only for now, and on the cloud plan minutes are metered by source length, so I'm a bit picky about which episodes I run.
Small thing that made me smile: I ran a clipping from Claude Code, mid-task, and it just worked. No dashboard, no tab switching.
Would I recommend it? Yes, especially if you keep meaning to turn long videos into shorts and never do. I enjoyed it, and I've kept using it, which is the real test.
