Good service. Good UI, it sends emails and also receives them.

My only criticism is the somewhat aggressive marketing, false claims, and constantly putting services you aren't interested in in front of you.

Proton Mail is a good email service for everyday use. The interface is simple, registration is clear, and everything feels more private than with many regular mail services. I like that the free version is enough for basic email needs, especially if you just need a reliable mailbox for personal use.

Everything is quite easy to understand in Proton Mail, even if you are using it for the first time. I also like that you can choose the design color, because it makes the interface feel more comfortable and a bit more personal. For me, Proton Mail is a solid option if you want a simple and more secure email service.

Proton.me (aus der Schweiz) bietet mir:

• Kostenlose Online-Dienste wie E-Mail, Cloud Storage, VPN, Docs, Sheets, Meet, etc. Von diesen nutze ich aktuell nur die ersten beiden.

• Eine sichere Umgebung, Ende-zu-Ende-Verschlüsselung und die hochgeladenen Dateien und E-Mail-Anhänge werden (anders als bei fast allen anderen Anbietern) nicht von KI gescannt und nicht zum Trainieren von KI genutzt.

• Eine gut gemachte, schlichte, übersichtliche und verständliche Benutzeroberfläche. (Viel besser als zum Beispiel bei Outlook, Web.de, GMX, T-Online)

• Eine gute E-Mail-Endung (proton.me), die akzeptabel klingt (und schöner als gmail.com) und mich an "Professor Proton" aus der TV-Serie "The Big Bang Theory" erinnert.

Nur zwei Probleme:

• Die Endung "proton.me" klingt natürlich nicht so toll wie "mail.de" oder "post.de".

• Gängige Namen (VornameNachname) vor dem @-Zeichen sind schon vergeben, weil Proton.me bereits mehr als 100 Millionen Mitglieder hat. Da muss man kreativ werden und sich selbst einen fantasievollen Namen geben. Schade. Aber nichts ist perfekt.

Protonmail bietet viele Funktionen und die Benutzeroberfläche sieht modern aus.

ABER

Abgesehen vom kostenlosen E-Mail-Konto, das es so bei der Konkurrenz oftmals nicht gibt, aber das auch wegen Inaktivität nach einiger Zeit automatisch gelöscht werden kann, ist Proton im Vergleich zur Konkurrenz (z. B. Posteo) relativ teuer. Außerdem hat Proton schon mehrfach die Daten von Nutzern vorschnell an Ermittlungsbehörden herausgegeben.

# Schweiz als Standort
Die Schweiz musste beim Datenschutz nachbessern, um mit dem verbesserten Datenschutz in der EU (DSGVO) einigermaßen mithalten zu können. Im Detail ist die Datenschutz-Grundverordnung (DSGVO) der EU nach wie vor strenger als das neue Datenschutzgesetz (nDSG) der Schweiz.

Ich habe mich bewusst nicht angemeldet und erhalte dennoch Newsletter. Mein Postfach ist ständig überfüllt wegen ungewünschter Mails. Ich kann weder per Mail noch auf der Website abbestellen ohne mich vorher anzumelden. Das erlebe ich als Grenzüberschreitung und kostet mich Aufwand. Eine Firma mit einem Vorgehen dieser Art werde ich nicht beauftragen.

1. First of all it's expensive.
2. There is a nag pop-up screen with thier plans everytime I go in settings. Why? I already have a plan..
3. I can easily create an extra email alias (from the included 15 in my plan) but good luck in deleting one.
4. No refund for me they said.
5. Plenty of times, I am not recieving some automated emails - those with login codes from other services - such as bitwarden for example.
I still have one year of premium but I will migrate in a few days, that's how tired I am of their "fancy" service.
I even used them for my bussiness, always a pro costumer. Not anymore.

Goodbye Proton. You will not be missed.

Uso Protonmail da 3 anni. Ottimo servizio, gratuito. Mai ricevuto spam o perso mail.

Sehr guter Mailserver mit mittlerweile Quantenverschlüsselung, die sonst nur TutaMail bietete. Mit den weiteren Produkten im Ökosystem ist diese Plattform eine sehr gute Alternative zu GoogleMail.

ProtonMail ist grundsätzlich kostenlos, aber dann mit einigen Einschränkungen. Zum ausgiebigen Test ist das ein toller Einstieg. Achtung. Free-Accounts werden nach längerer Inaktivität gelöscht.
Ein Abo lohnt sich aber sehr.

Utilisatrice de Proton Mail depuis plusieurs années. Le chiffrement et la base suisse sont appréciables. J'apprécie particulièrement les alias pour envoyer des messages sans révéler mon véritable email.

Quelques déceptions cependant. Proton mentionne dans sa politique l'utilisation de Zendesk pour le support, mais je trouve inquiétant qu'une entreprise axée sur la confidentialité repose sur une plateforme américaine conservant les données de support à long terme.

J'ai également été déçue par le contact avec le support. La réponse manquait d'empathie et la responsabilité de l'incident m'a été entièrement attribuée sans reconnaissance de leur part.

Je reste utilisatrice pour les fonctionnalités principales mais je m'attendais à un meilleur accompagnement client.

Have sent multiple tickets regarding a refund, the one above is the latest, and I have not received a reply regarding a refund, despite me being within the 30-day refund window. At this point, I suspect that Proton is purposely ignoring my emails, as I'm close to the 30-day window (about 8 days left). It is just super annoying that you have to rely on an email from them for service.

Update: it’s funny how they reply to this and mention that I “have been in communication with an agent”, yet the “reply” I received is one of their agents from Friday sending me an email stating they want to for sure confirm if I want to cancel, and then proceeds to offer me free 2 months to get me to stay. I then reply that I’d prefer to have the refund or at the least keep the vpn package, as well as send a follow-up email about an update on the refund, and then it’s ghost silence from there on out. As of writing this, I haven’t received a single reply. It’s so frustrating to do business with a company like this that communicates purely through email because they can pick and select which emails/customers they want to prioritize, and of course, why would they prioritize giving money back to customers? The irony is that they can see that I’ve made this complaint and multiple tickets, yet are still not fulfilling my refund request, when it should be simple. Why do you even offer a 30-day refund policy? I will update if they amend this.

Das Beste an Proton ist Lumo (daher - und nur daher! - auch die 4 Sternchen...). Das Katerchen hat ganz erstaunliche Faehigkeiten - und mir IT-technisch schon enorm geholfen, und das noch gratis. (Andere KIs schafften die gleiche Aufgabe gar nicht, oder nur ansatzweise). VPN WAR mal Weltklasse, hat aber in letzter Zeit dramatisch nachgelassen (u.v.a. nur noch ein Bruchteil der Server zur Auswahl), so daß ich zum Abo-Ablauf wechseln werde. Mit mails (die ich nur noch fuer unwichtige Belange nutze) hatte ich zT aehnliche Erfahrungen wie bereits v anderen usern angesprochen - manche versendeten erreichen nicht den Empfaenger, bzw wartet man auf manche Bestaetigungsmails vergebens. Außerdem finde ich die mail-"Abteilung" doch arg unuebersichtlich. Wenn man, um "Papierkorb" und "spam" aufzufinden, erst mal einen verdeckten Bereich anklicken muß - wie umstaendlich! Solange man das alles - bis auf VPN - allerdings gratis geboten bekommt, darf man ueber manches hinwegsehen. Da werde ich zB, um meine Mails per thunderbird aufzurufen, zur Kasse gebeten. Als "Private" zahle ich aber fuer keinen Mail-Dienstleister - und bevorzuge fuer meine "Haupt-Mail" inzw. einen unkomplizierteren wie zuverlaessigeren, der mir auch als Gratis-user thunderbird nicht verwehrt. - Ich finde es uebrigens so unhoeflich wie brueskierend von einem KUNDENSERVICE (sic!), seine deutschsprachige (zumindest f VPN zahlende!) Kundschaft konsequent mit Antworten in Englisch zu bedenken! Wenn Sie nicht (mehr) deutscher Sprache maechtig sind (Ihre vehemente Werbung beweist das Gegenteil!), besorgen Sie sich eine taugliche "translation software"!

my emails keep DISSAPEARING!!! and they never reply something usefull! I am terribly disapointed!!! Its impossible to get ahold of them no chat, only emails you have to wait days for a response...

I really want to rate Proton higher but I simply can't. I've been a free user for many years, but with big tech's move to Ai scraping of personal data, I'm moving off Meta, Google, Microsoft etc. So I bought a paid plan for Proton for better privacy.

Email is pretty solid, but everything else feels like it's in beta; Drive is buggy and I'm consistently left with corrupted, unopenable files - I can't trust it to be my cloud backup, which kinda defeats the purpose. Moreover, the 15gb of combined storage across all apps on a paid plan is measly, I get 30 gb for free with Mega. The document editing apps are absolutely terrible - unusable - too many bugs to even begin listing.

Proton Meet only syncs one of your email/calendar accounts, so if you're hosting your business and personal emails with Proton you can only choose one to sync with the meet app. But that's a moot point because the meet app is buggy as well; wouldn't connect audio with Bluetooth and without headphones connected the loudspeaker was at minimal and unusable volume - I had to switch back to zoom.

Proton, instead of trying to release half a dozen beta apps, try and perfect one or two first. Or make your beta apps completely free, so your subscribers aren't paying to test your products for you.

Worst of all, the customer service is poor. One takes the time to report a bug, explaining in simple, comprehensive steps what happened. Only to receive the predictable response: we couldn't recreate the issue, can you explain the exact steps that you made? Like, I literally just did that!

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend Proton as a serious solution, they are using the philosophy of "build the plane while flying", and the result is risk to stored data and constantly frustrated clients. The ratings in trustpilot tells the accurate story.

Ich bin absolut fassungslos und extrem verärgert über die Geschäftspraktiken von Proton Mail. Ich kann jeden nur eindringlich davor warnen, diesen Dienst für wichtige oder geschäftliche Angelegenheiten zu nutzen.

Meine katastrophale Erfahrung:

- Extrem kurze Fristen: Mein Postfach mit der Adresse ronnenberg@proton****.** wurde nach lediglich 12 Monaten Inaktivität einfach komplett gekündigt und gelöscht. Andere E-Mail-Anbieter deaktivieren ungenutzte Accounts frühestens nach 5 bis 15 Jahren. Eine Frist von nur einem Jahr ist lächerlich kurz und absolut kundenunfreundlich.

- Keine Wiederherstellung möglich: Der Support stellt sich komplett quer. Es wurde mir mitgeteilt, dass man diese E-Mail-Adresse nicht mehr freigeben oder reaktivieren kann. Man steht buchstäblich vor verschlossenen Türen und hat keinerlei Chance, seinen Account zurückzubekommen.

- Massiver finanzieller Schaden: Da mir der Zugriff auf diese E-Mail-Adresse nun komplett fehlt und wichtige Zugänge und Verifizierungen darüber liefen, habe ich einen finanziellen Verlust von knapp 5.000 Euro erlitten.

Fazit:
Wer eine zuverlässige E-Mail-Adresse sucht, auf die man sich verlassen kann – auch wenn man sie mal eine Weile nicht aktiv nutzt –, sollte einen großen Bogen um Proton Mail machen. Ein System, das Konten so schnell und unwiderruflich löscht und damit das Vermögen seiner Nutzer gefährdet, ist schlichtweg nicht tragbar. Absolut keine Empfehlung!

I've had a free account for a while just to try things out and I decided to get email plus and connect a custom domain that seems to work now after some DNS trial and error towards WIX.

If all goes well after my one month test is over I might get a full year for my company email as it's about half the price Google Workspace would be. I don't need a lot of the features the competitors might offer, just the ability to email with a custom domain.

the mail ui is terrible and keeps getting worse. fire your ux lead. stop outsourcing engineering to the cheapest possible places on earth. hire a local non-tech university grad and have them use ai. they'll produce a better product. Or just use an off-the-shelf web mail framework. Email is not a new enough technology you need to build this yourself.

Proton blocks email accounts without reason and you loose your data completely. Avoid this provider. Even Gmail or Hotmail is more secure.

I paid for Proton Duo, which is a lot of money for me, and I originally liked the platform, especially the privacy focus and clean design. However, my experience became very frustrating when I tried to forward or export a full conversation and found that the platform does not properly support this in the way I needed.

I contacted support, but the process was not helpful for me. I also requested a refund after limited usage, but the refund was refused and I was repeatedly asked for more proof. This took too much time and became overwhelming.

I have since cancelled my renewal and moved my account back to the free plan. I may close or stop using the platform fully. Proton has good features, but the customer support experience, refund handling, and limitation with forwarding/exporting full conversations were disappointing, especially after paying for Proton Duo.
I hope Proton improves full conversation export/forwarding options and makes refund/support communication clearer and easier for customers.

Just be aware that this company deletes all email when they deem your account inactive. I can even still Log in with my hotmail account the dates from the stone ages. I must have not read the rules but honestly would never have thought this to be a rule. My correspondence is my correspondence, I thought. No warning on my second email about this.

IMPOSSIBLE. je suis débité tous les mois de 4,99€. J'ai été obligé de faire opposition à ma CB (avec obligation de refaire mes paiements pour mes autres abonnements). C'est inadmissible .
Je vais étudier un autre service qui serait meilleur pour ceux qui ne parle pas l'anglais (Info...)
