A welcoming and educational experience with fantastic accommodation

PYB organise brilliant experience, learning environments, but I think I had been spoilt the previous year by the PERFECT combination of THE PERFECT SCOTTISH WINTER WEATHER EVER (snow, snow,snow and more snow) and one of THE BEST INSTRUCTORS EVER on the womens winter mountaineering course. This time I upped the ante and booked onto womens intro to winter climbing. Dismal turnout for ALL winter courses, some cancelled by PYB as really there wasn't any 'winter'! A quiet instructor didn't really connect, motivate or inspire the two of us booked onto the course . More over, we felt that actually the agenda was almost already written for the first day and this effectively broke us physically and emotionally as we felt we hadn't been listened to and it really did make us think we've paid an awful lot of money for this-not a good first day. That, unfortunately set the tone for the rest of the week! Moments of pleasure and enjoyment, but tension at every turn, it has from my perspective anyway marred my view of the winter courses held in this country because of the unpredictability of the weather, (which of course I appreciate and acknowledge that this is clearly stated when you book onto a winter course) but paying well over £1,000.00 for five days instruction (food and accommodation included too) - I feel a little let down this year and just feel that a more enthusiastic instructor could have made all the difference to what became an experience I'd rather not repeat. Sorry, but winter will now be abroad or ad hoc of my own organisation when the winter weather is actually there!

Lovely accommodation, excellent food and the quality of teaching is second to none. Highly recommend if you're planning a course or just want somewhere to stay to get out in the hills

Excellent weekend course on preparation for Alpine mountaineering, which covered how to plan a trip, what to take and rope work for glacier travel and crevasse rescue. Our two instructors were mines of information on all aspects of climbing, hiking and ski touring in the Alps and I picked up lots of useful tips on important subjects such as safety in the mountains, navigation, avalanche awareness and booking huts. This has given me the confidence to get out on to a glacier, on my next Alpine trip and use the techniques I learnt on the course- can't wait! Accommodation and food at Plasy Brenin was first class, as always.

I have had a number of courses at Plas y Brenin, and all have been excellent. The accommodation, food, and coaching are all of a high standard. The views from PyB are incredible and the activities on offer to a very high standard

Great courses, great instructors, in a fabulous setting. The accommodation is really clean and comfortable with the meals tasty and wholesome.

Have attended many training courses at PYB - they have all been excellent, as have been the acommodation and food.

Yes it was a fair commute to North Wales as the Lake District or Scotland are my normal " haunt" which is seldom in recent years .Course ;struggled with knots ,ropework and prussicking,however out on the hill I seemed to be competent especially on Crevasse Rescue ,yet now I would struggle to remember it all!I need regular application of skills passed on .A worthwhile course for a "rusty" student but the Matterhorn and the Eiger are still a dream! who knows .Good trainers in Dave and Matt and a good feeling of comraderie among course members .Arrived home 23.40 p.m. !

Plas y Brenin never fails to deliver on it's courses.
The accommodation is good and the staff friendly and welcoming.
I highly recommend PyB to anyone looking for outdoor activities as their range is huge and instructors very professional.
