I know how this sounds

I know how this sounds, but it feels like a scam. To be clear, it isn’t actually a scam, because Raylo have been very clever in how they’ve structured their contracts. However, the issue is how unclear everything is before you get to that contract stage.

At no point in the pre-contract journey is it made properly clear that you are not guaranteed any option to purchase the device at the end of your term. That’s also not clearly communicated on the website or in the marketing. It only becomes explicit once you’re deep into the contract itself, by which point you’re already committed in mindset and not expecting that kind of term.

As someone who has used multiple tech schemes and rent-to-buy setups, and also knowing how Raylo used to operate, I did not expect this at all. There is a general expectation with these types of services that, even if you end up paying the full value (or more), you will at least have the option to keep the item at the end. That is standard across most comparable schemes, whether it’s tech or even vehicle financing.

With Raylo, that option is entirely at their discretion. So you could effectively pay the equivalent of the full value of the device over 12, 24, or 36 months and still have to return it, with no guarantee of being able to keep it.

Yes, people will say “you should read the contract”, and technically that’s true. But there are multiple stages before you ever see that contract where this could, and should, be made clear. The fact it isn’t, combined with how these schemes typically work and how Raylo previously positioned themselves, makes the whole experience feel underhanded.

If the pricing reflected a true rental model with a clear discount, that would be different. But as it stands, paying what amounts to the full cost of an item or more without a clear, upfront option to own it at the end feels fundamentally misleading.

This is the first time I’ve come across a service like this where the structure leaves you feeling like you’ve been caught out, rather than clearly informed.

Slow delivery

Ordered an iPhone 17 pro on the 7th March, woken up to an email saying it’s been pushed back to be delivered 23rd-30th
.if the phone was available why advertise to buy?! Annoying to say the least

Bought a samsung e120 for £69.00


Bought a samsung e120 for £69.00 payment as directed debit payment. Just checked my account, and see that raylo has taken £109 and still carries on until I've cancelled the direct debit. This is a scammer. Also phone isn't worth £20.i bought it caz I was struggling with financial difficulties.
