I got a last minute cancellationâŠdreadful service
I got a last minute cancellation appointment and was really excited about having my hair done.
The adverts state that the trainee will work with what you want.
I was told to arrive at 1.15pm the latest which I did, however despite the professional staff on Reception (one who had booked me in)waited until after 2pm before the lead trainer for my section(6 models) arrived. The student who was working with translators had little or no prior experience evident from the fact she refused to condition my hair despite being told it was dry by Katy/Kitty. I had to go back into the queue standing and waiting around again for one of the washbasins to be free- she seemed unsure and initally after one shampoo took me back to the 'trainee salon area'
The trainer who I believe is called Katy or Kitty(mid length ginger hair) was caustic and came across arrogant in her approach. She asked me what I wanted- my hair had grown mid length and I asked for a trim, long layers to add movement. My hair dark, has a slight wave in it, and works when it is longer and the weight pulls it down making it smoother. I specifically asked for not shorter layers as it works against my hair and gives a raggedy look. I asked for classic-and sleek. I was immedietly cut off sharply informed my hair couldnt be blow dried smoother becasue it takes too much time and described my hair as curly/wavy.
She left the student who seemed unsure, consulting her giggling fellow student for advice(albeit the one shampoo and no conditoner scenario and having been left to negotiate for this) The woman Kat/Kitty left the student mostly unsupervised- she would come around tell her what she wanted doing but then leave her to her own devices- I had to prompt the student myself to keep the hair taut and wet as she had been directed- this seemed to be with almost every section.
She received good feedback but cut my hair much shorter and I have been left with the dreaded scaggerily hacked in look with short layers that won't lie straight because too much has been cut out When Katy/Kitty told the student to diffuse my hair she snapped at me that she had told me they couldn't dry my hair smoother- however in my section 3 other students were either having their hair striaghtened or dried smoother(long hair) and the 25 minutes diffusing could have been spent doing this especially as she had not supervised and my lovely hair had been hacked through. My hair looked much better before but despite Katy/Kitty telling a different model 'Oh well it will grow back' is a poor excuse given she seems to be on a ego trip over common sense and applying practical supervision to her teaching.
I was dismissed and referred to 'Well pin the top of the hair and diffuse the rest so the lady feels her curly hair isn't. Her manner is brash and humilaiting and if she almost enjoys the brash put downs. Perhaps
She told the student that she had done a good job but cut the layers not how she had shown her and too short- had she supervised and watched her when she was cutting then perhaps there would have been a greater sense of responsibity and accountability. The impression given was one of not listening to the client and the Vidal Sassoon etiquette and general customer service was missing Of course in a model cut appointment, there is an expectation of some delay and going with the flow but I would imagine it is important to teach the value of respect and dignity too which seems to go amiss to the trainer.
I am left with having to grow out the unflattering haircut which she asked the student to cut touching the shoulder blade but it actually springs far up and is unflattering( have a squarish face). Afterwards, Katy/Kitty said the student had never cut hair before and this was certainly evdient so a little unnerving if the case is there has not been any prior classroom practice using training mannequins. There is also the issue of her not supervising the student or witnessing her cutting or teaching her the basics such as shampooing and conditioning.
Moving forwards, and really whatever postion Kitty/Katy holds, no e her intimidating, no nonsense approach might work in a factory or somewhere where arrogance is rewarded (Vidal Sasson?) found her attitude is dehumanising and patronising at the very least.
The group of Japanese students with their translators were lovely but it is apparent Katy was more interested/invested in having a jolly with them over supervising her students.
I think I would put my precious time and pay a professional salon in future. I think Vidal Sasson should be paying students in recompense given the poor standards.. Doesn't the VS experience start at this point? Basic manners don't cost anything,
Please save your money and time and fuelling the arrogance of some of the staff who clearly get off by putting others down - not a good look!
Stunning haircut by Sassoon AcademyâŠ
Stunning haircut by Sassoon Academy Greek St today. The stylist started working with me and my style of look straight away so it felt very personalised and was also expertly carried out plus fun. There is amazing attention to detail and I left with the exact haircut I wanted that was also crafted to my hair type - so even better than I could have imagined.
Nice haircut, awful service
My haircut was lovely and cut into a long bob style after having lots of damaged pink ends. The girl who cut my hair was very sweet. However, regardless of the haircut, the customer service was awfully rude.
I was told via Instagram message (after I booked an appointment through there) to go to Sassoon's Greek Street address. Upon arrival, I was met by a woman in her 20's with ginger hair, wearing an 'I <3 Vidal Sassoon' top. She instantly had an attitude and said that I had not returned any of calls to confirm my appointment so it got cancelled. I showed her my Instagram confirmation for the correct site, time and date, and provided my name, to which she realised that my confirmation was correct. The wrong phone number and name was put down for another person and I wasn't on their schedule. No apology for her mistake and for coming at me with smoke?
After lots of disorganisation, and a similar situation that seemed to occur with an elderly woman, they sent me to the Ave Maria location (30 mins away and more money on TFL) to not be seen until 14.30 when my appointment was at 13.00.
The receptionist (who's name I did not find out but used they/them pronouns with short black hair) was actually extremely helpful and tried to advise. They made up for the fact their colleague had no customer service skills and no embarrassment/apology for their rudeness when I came in.
As much as my hair cut was nice, the disorganisation here is appalling. If you book via Instagram, definitely triple check with them it's all confirmed in their books before making the trip. Next time, I think I will spend the extra £20 at my regular salon to save the unexpected stress, time, money and cold attitude.
Student review
Other side of the review. Attended as a student. I am an experienced hairdresser who attended for further training. Donât think everyone who attends is new. Itâs a great course and I paid A LOT of money to attend. The tutors are great and very good at their jobs. They spend a lot of time explaining the cuts, making sure we know every step and then watch us and correct as we go. Thatâs why itâs 3 hours. (They have 2 tiers of clients, the students and the models. The students pay much more!). A great week, all but one of my models was superb and a delight to interact with. One was not happy about waiting and thought she should be in and out in an hour, even though she had been advised 3. This negatively affected my learning experience for the whole day. Itâs an amazing environment and I will come back as a model and get my hair cut. Models, be patient, enjoy the experience and you will get an amazing haircut for the fraction of the price you should do.

I hate to leave a review but 4 hours for a haircut .Student didnât listen my looks like when I went in i hope they improve as I like Sassoon but itâs hard to get through too and they donât seem to care anymore
Horrible experience, Ave Maria Lane, London
I've been coming on and off for nearly 30 years and have rarely had a good haircut in the last few years. The teachers treat clients and students with contempt. They are not professional. They do not seem to care about teaching and are not skilled at it. Haircuts are not checked and often take longer than they should because the teacher is cutting a clients hair that they are enjoying rather than teaching. Riding on the brand reputation can only last so long if it is abused. It is not worth 4 hours of your time if you leave with a bad haircut and are dehumanised. A skilled student may be your saving grace but I won't take the risk. I will not be coming back.

Terrible hair cutting experience inâŠ
Terrible hair cutting experience in SASSOON@SANRIZZ locate in 38A Brunswick Square WC1N 1AE!
When the hair cut was about to end, I suffered from discriminatory treatment and a very bad attitude! When the hair was cut close to 5 pm, the lecturer did not teach the barber in order, but skipped me and directly taught the other two barbers who cut the hair of European girls. My barber was the last person taught by the lecturer after 5 pm.
And the boss of this shop directly reached out to me and throw my shawl away rudely . Please note that this is a really rude gesture to pull it off, not to help me take it off, and to do this rude behaviour in front of all the people in the house! It's really the first time that I have been subjected to such bad behaviour in a consume place, and it's not how harsh my requirements are, but that they were incompetent but still want to be lazy and even think they were absolutely right and attacked you.
When I was about to leave, I still politely said goodbye to the fierce looking man-the boss, but the fierce looking man didn't answer me at all and didn't even look at me. I really can't use words to describe how angry I was! When I came to the front desk of the salon, I said that I had been treated with unprecedented unfriendliness today. The receptionist said that because the fierce man was the owner of the salon, and he was always very unfriendly to many peopleïŒ
I have been doing this for decades
Itâs a bit hit and miss. Sometimes you get an incredible cut, really out of this world. I think they know the cut you want, but they have to teach certain cuts to their students, so they canât give it too you very often. Then occasionally you get a cut thatâs weird and it makes you feel bad. What you get is much better than a high street salon. Itâs a lot cheaper and you have to sit for 3 hours which is exhausting. On the whole the cuts are much much better than at high street salons.
Vidal Sassoon -you are back!
Vidal Sassoon -you are back!! Total redemption - after my complaint to them a few months ago they were great in letting me wait to return post Covid and they gave me the best cut and colour eveeeeeeeer! On the house and with all the bucket loads of talent and skill I always associate with them. Sooooooo pleased. Finally everyone saying again how fantastic my hair looks and asking me who does it! The heart and soul of Sassoonâs is very much alive and kicking - big thank you to them - Edward, Silvia and whole team at Chelsea plus co itself.
Really bad experience May 2021
Really bad experience May 2021, the class instructor Kitty was rude, bossy, hypocritical, she clearly made the trainees nervous, my trainee, a really lovely lady, who was retraining after the pandemic has made her redundant was exceptionally nice and clearly wanted to do a good job, but was clearly nervous of instructor, who at one point put her arms over the trainee from behind to demonstrate something and when asking if that was ok to do it, after having started, clearly put the trainee in an awkward position, instructor also kept getting the trainees names mixed up. Very unpleasant unprofessional experience. Tried to raise a complaint about her behaviour at the salon, never got a response.
I had a fantastic experience from start to finish
I had a fantastic experience from start to finish today at the training academy on Ave Maria Ln, London.
Song cut my hair and I highly recommend her! Lovely person and super professional, and an excellent cut!
Thank you
Save your hair and don't even consider this HELL
Understood going into this that these were not fully qualified hairdressers, so prepared for a slightly wonky cut or maybe a few bad layers. I've ended up with quite possibly the worst haircut of my life- essentially a mullet but not even a well-cut one.
I specifically asked for a completely different cut and the intimidating teacher continuously pushed for an edgier look. His student obviously listened to him and not me despite voicing how I didn't like how it was going multiple times.
I think it's so unprofessional to be teaching these students to cut whatever they want and to not listen to clients. I think I've got about two years before this will grow out and I am devasted. Having to book in for hair extensions will cost me hundreds of pounds as I can't even style out or try and cover up this disaster. Nothing would ever convince me to return to that place and I highly suggest you read all the other atrocious reviews and not make the same mistake I did.

WORST HAIRCUT IN MY LIFE!!!
WORST HAIRCUT IN MY LIFE!!!
Came for a simple trimming and few layers.. would have never thought it can go so wrong ... the poor lad was so nervous he kept dropping his equipment on the floor.!! I was reassured that the teachers keep things safe... wrong again ... that didnât happen ..
I am one of these polite hopefuls, who sits put.. hoping it will be fine .. and then gradually realise the damage.. so after theyâve ironed my hair I still had hope that if I wash it at home it will look ok..!! Wrong again !! I know I should have complained there and then but to be honest I wouldnât even have let the teacher fix it !! And I know everybody needs to learn...& we all make mistakes .. but ..!!
So disappointing, now Iâll have to spend a fortune on fixing at a proper place. But worst and saddest thing is that waiting game for my hair to grow back. Learnt lesson. Never again !!! My first time at Sassoon academy; And my hair looks like itâs been nibbled-off by mice :(
Twice I went for a haircut and eachâŠ
Twice I went for a haircut and each time for the next few weeks I had to wear a hat!!! until my hair grew out.
When I went for a cut, I showed the instructor a picture of a pixie cut - and said I wanted something similar - instead he encouraged the student to shave my head. Once again I am wearing a hat for the past two weeks. I WILL NEVER GO BACK.
Had my first experience of VidalâŠleft upset once I saw theyâd cut too much
Had my first experience of Vidal Sassoon academy today (I usually go to HOB in Camden). The length of time was over 3 hours and a lot longer then any modelling cut Iâve had over the years. I wanted 2 inches off the length and a tidy up and the guy cut off over 5 inches as he was correcting a rounding mistake (thanks). The students take their own before and after pics but at no time are you shown the back of your hair or asked if your happy ... the assumption is itâs cheap and you canât complain. Annoyed ð more then double what i wanted was chopped off and also yes itâs cheap but other academies do cuts for free in less time and your not upset when you leave.
Terrible
I paid £30 to have my roots highlighted here. Afterwards the roots looked exactly the same - the roots didn't look any lighter. The highlights were basically non-existant. I was rudely told if I was specific about what I wanted then I should go to a salon. This isn't good enough- I'd paid £30 - it's not a free service. I wasn't happy but they wouldn't fix it. They said they couldn't put more highlights in as it wouldn't look natural. Well it certainly didn't loom natural the way they did it as I still had massive dark roots with a line where the previous dye was. As far as I'm concerned, you don't pay £30 to let the trainee do whatever they like and then get sent away if you're not happy. If that's the service then they shouldn't charge as you're doing th trainees a favour letting them mess with your hair and do a job you're not happy with and never agreed to in the first place. They wouldn't fix it so I was sent home unhappy and £30 poorer. I ended up having to dye my roots myself as they looked so bad.
If you want a good model cut go to Toni and guy acadamy. It's cheaper and they're not rude to you. And you go away with what you asked for (and if they want to do something different it's discussed beforehand- no nasty surprises at the end).
Vidal Sassoon academy did not dye my hair the way that was discussed and agreed in the consultation and I'm extremely unhappy to have wasted half a day and £30.
If You Don't Look Good, We Don't Look Good! Vidal Sassoon!
I really enjoyed the hair cutting services presented to me by the Sassoon Academy.
I have been trying to be their hair cutting model for years and the perseverance finally paid off!
I made an appointment last week and was finally seen today being Thursday, October 20th, 2016.
The academy has been around in the Santa Monica area for the past 15 years and is becoming bigger and better! They operate several floors and teach only the best in hair design and instruction and are always in the need for models who are more than willing to let their students practice their top hair cutting skills on them such as myself.
When I arrived, I was greeted by Karim who is their Receptionist and then I met with Dwight who is their North American Show And Event Coordinator who answered a lot of my questions and gave me a fantastic tour later on.
Very soon, I got to meet Kelsey, my hair stylist who has been cutting hair back east for the past 3-4 years who was being supervised by Matthew, her instructor who has been with the Sassoon Academy for the past three (3) years.
My overall experience for the 2.5 hours was Excellent and I enjoyed every minute of it including the long conversations that I had with my stylist during my visit.
I also ended up getting a Fantastic Fade Haircut and was very Satisfied with the results.
I more than Highly Recommend the Sassoon Academy to anyone looking for a Great Haircut or to anyone looking for a Great Hair Cutting School To Study At.
Thank you.
Sincerely yours,
Howard Paul Shore
