Scam. Just want to sell other services. And wanted $800 to sweep chimney.
Some guy alleging to work for this company in an unmarked truck showed up for five seconds, didnât do any diagnostics on our pellet stove. Instead, he said the company doesnât replace parts in the winter time and handed us a fake written quote for $8,000 to just replace the pellet stove. Jerk-offs..
This company is a total scam. Shame on me for not doing more research! I was charged $800 to clean 2 wood burning fireplaces. The two techs spent about half hour cleaning them. Very disappointed!!!
This company is a huge scam. You canât even leave a really review on their website.
Came in an unmarked vehicle, street clothes, and knowledgeable staff.
Smith and Sons Chimney do not guarantee their work. Their technician Ameer did maintenance services on my gas fireplace. My plot light stopped working again and I called this company to tell them about my plot light has stopped working. They did not do a fellow up call after I spoke to them regarding this problem . My name is Norvella Goffney and I am very upset that my fireplace still is not working after I paid them $179.
Each time I would try to schedule an appointment they would not show up. They would apologize that no one showed up then reschedule for a different time and still not show up. This happened 3 different times.
Do not call or hire this company! They are scam artists. They show up in cars not trucks and take a vacuum out of the backseat. When I asked why the person didnât have a company truck, his reply was â oh I was in an accident last week.â
The original quote was $69 plus $99. The worker tried to charge me $800 to clean two stoves. I got him down to $300 per stove. When he left, I checked the stove in the basement and it was not even cleaned. For $600. He totally scammed me and he insisted that I pay him the $600 in cash. The receipt he gave me was laughable. It had no name of an address or a phone number and did not even fill out my customer information on the receipt! Numerous phone calls to this company have resulted in absolutely no return on my money or the correction of the job! Total scam artists!
This company canceled three different appointments, ridiculous!
I scheduled and appointment with this company a month out using the phone number listed on their website - when they show up on the date, it was not the company as advertised, but a subcontractor. If this company is going to subcontract out, they should be upfront and honest about it. Also, the subcontractor had charged way more than the advertised $79 inspection fee. It wound up costing much more money, but I needed the inspection so I went with it unfortunately.
The answering service never scheduled my appointment for inspect/repair service. When I called about the no show - they had no record of my call from the prior day and never called me right back as was promised. OUR TIME is valuable - I guess this business does not recognize that.
He called and texted at 6 am asking if he could come at 7 am instead of 9 am. Guy showed up in personal car, street clothes, spent most of his time letting the vacuum suck while he was on his phone scrolling. He scraped some stuff off, but after he left, I could see it wasnât all scraped off. No protection around the fireplace or carpet, left a mess on the hearth and floor. When it came time to pay, I used Zelle and the company name was different than Smith and Sons Chimney. Charged $500. I should have observed, Iâm sure he didnât clean the upper part. I learned from this experience. Oh
Look at that actual google reviews of this company. Canât find them? Wonder why?
This is the only place you can actually leave a review. Read them and consider not hiring this company. Hereâs mine:
Needed a chimney sweep, called and they said inspection is mandatory $69 and will be included in cleaning. Tech did inspection but forgot cleaning tools. Said he would have to come back in two days.
No worries, stuff happens. I paid inspection fee. I asked what time he would come since I had to be home again from work. He said he didnât know and would call me Thursday to confirm time window. I waited until 4pm Thursday to call. He did not remember me at first but then said he did and was still coming on Friday. I asked what time so I can be home. He again said he did not know but would call few hours in advance. I said ok. Friday I wait at home all day until 4:30pm, I call again. He said he was very busy with other people and could try and come late. I told him donât bother and I would like my inspection money back.
Why? Because every chimney service requires an inspection and is taken off the cleaning. I have to pay another inspection fee with another company now. He says to call office.
I call office and they said they canât refund, call technician. Call technician he says he feels bad and will call his boss to explain and call me back.
He never called again. I send an email, no response. I call company phone and they cannot direct me to anyone other than a dispatcher. Canât leave a google review. Scam company. Pay more even for another and save yourself the hassle.
Scam company, sends unlicensed, uninsured, untrained random people to do the work. Our guy showed up, in a personal vehicle, no uniform, no id. He "inspected" the chimney with a flashlight and said that it needed deep cleaning and brick/mortar repair. $49/ft for deep cleaning, and nearly $500 for cement repairs to the deteriorating bricks and mortar.
When he came to do the work, he didn't bother to cover the fireplace and just started brushing with his drill, black dust flying everywhere. He did that for less than 30 minutes. Then he moved on to do the repairs to the chimney. He squirted some fireproof caulk in a gap and smeared it over a couple of bricks. Took him 15 minutes and a tube of caulk. Hardly $500 worth of work...unless they are charging $2000/hr.
My wife was home during this process and unknowingly paid the scammer. When I got home and looked at the "work" the guy had done, I couldn't believe it. Guy was here for just over an hour and walked out with $1200. Yeah, she tipped him $100. Don't forget the 7% service fee to use a credit card!
The chimney was only partially cleaned, no cement work was done. We called to complain and Smith and Sons said that the contractor would resolve the issue. They offered a 10% refund. The contractor texted and claimed that he did the job as described and would not give us anything off. We asked for $500. He refused. When we asked for his license information and how much material he used for repairs, he ghosted us.

We had a chimney clean and a layer of thick soot was left over the entire floor of our house including floors, furniture, blinds, books, etc. It took us 5 hours to clean and an additional $150 to get it professionally cleaned since we couldnât get it all off. Tried calling 6 separate times to address this issue and was always told someone would return my call but I never heard from anyone.
Smith and Sons Chimney Company is nothing more than a call center hiding behind subcontractors they donât stand behind. We paid for an inspection and never got the written report. Then their subcontractor charged over $600 for a ârepairâ that left the home with a gas leak which resulted in the gas company shutting off service for a week. Multiple calls, even from an attorney, went unanswered. No refund, no accountability. Dangerous, dishonest, and absolutely not to be trusted.
I'd not recommend these guys at all. It looks like they operate under multiple different company names and the technician they send does not seem to know what he is talking about. I had the same technician come out a month ago or so, and he quoted us for roughly $1500 to replace the parts for a gas fireplace. This time, he inspected the same thing and he said there is nothing wrong. Stay away from this company.
I think the chimney cleaning itself is probably great (it looks much cleaner from what I can see), but our house was left covered in soot. Every surface in the same room as the fireplace had soot on it. We didn't notice until the technician had left, and we discovered the bottoms of feet were black when we left footprints on our rug. The blinds, the furniture, a bookcase, the mantle--literally every surface in that room was left with soot on it. We spent hours cleaning after they'd left. After talking with them after the fact, the technician offered to come back and clean, but after we'd spent so much time cleaning it ourselves, we didn't want take them up on that offer. The supervisor essentially said 'I'm sorry that happened, and I'll take your feedback.' Very disappointing, and I would not recommend this company to someone else.
This Company swindled me, I feel, and I strongly recommend against using them. No one turned up when scheduled, and when I followed up was told their vehicle had broken down and it was rescheduled. Then, a third party contractor (RH Cleaning?) turned up and pressured me into a full chimney sweeping, for $200, allegedly because of wasps nests, etc etc, instead of the simple inspection of a chimney unused for 5 years, for $69 as promised. I felt I had no choice. He vacuumed my fireplace for all of 5 minutes and did nothing to the chimney (the wasps nests magically disappeared). Then, he sent me a âreportâ on plain paper, without the Compnayâs address, license number or signature. Beware of this con of a Company.
They say âthey have upfront pricingâ, that was not my experience. When I scheduled an appointment it was a $69 inspection fee and a there guess of roughly $99 for cleaning. When they arrived they wanted $450 to clean the chimney plus the inspection fee. Since it was cleaned last time we have maybe had a total of 45 burns in the fireplace. Last company we used charged us a quarter of what they wanted and they found no issues with the fireplace and there was a lot more burns between cleaning.
I would stay away from this company
