Refused refund for faulty product, ignored consumer rights
I bought a brand-new hair dryer that would not start from day one. I contacted customer support immediately, explained the issue, and clearly requested a refund.
Instead of processing a refund, Solo Salon Supplies arranged a DPD collection to send the item away for “assessment”. I was then surprised to be told that a technician had “fixed” the dryer as a gesture of goodwill and that they intended to send the repaired item back to me, despite the fact that I had never agreed to a repair.
When I reiterated that I wanted a refund, not a repair, they refused. They claimed the manufacturer’s warranty was invalidated simply because I tried a different fuse in the plug to confirm the fault — and used this as justification to deny a refund altogether.
This response completely ignores statutory consumer rights, which are separate from and override manufacturer warranty terms. A product that is faulty from the first day should not be repaired and returned without the customer’s consent, nor should a refund be refused on that basis.
Overall, very disappointing handling of a straightforward faulty-goods case. I would not recommend purchasing from them based on this experience.
