mostly terrible - site made by monkeys

mostly terrible, contributes to the bad name given to Linux community, and for good reasons.

They just find a new way to enrage the customer. They let you login and create your account to be able to answer or update an existing question.

After 20 minutes formating my response to make sure it is clear, hitting the reply button results in:

"Sorry, we are no longer accepting answers from your account because most of your answers need improvement or do not sufficiently answer the question. See the Help Center to learn"

-> What kind of person leaves the reply button and field just to let you know it is disabled when you try to send it after taking the time to write a full response?

Are they just a bit thick, or are they trying to enrage their audience??

I am closing my account. This is a stupid community.

Moderator is a bully

Moderator is a bully, moderator kept editing my post over and over again even though it was just a code opinion-based question that no one has ever really answered my question, sadly, I had to delete my account after this bad experience, I’m extremely disappointed that users have to go through this bad treatment from moderators. No wonder why most of the reviews here are negative.

Rules are more important than users. Flee!

Those communities are more interested in rules than being helpful. I spend my time helping on Blender's Reddit. But on stackexchange, once you are finally! granted the right to write something: your posts are removed for no reason, comments are removed, requests are removed. It's not a community of Blender users, seriously, it's a sect.

I would have fought to be part of that group, eventually, if the skill level had been impressive, but the questions on stackexchange are amateurish like those on Reddit, so why bother?

If your life's dream is to be deaf-mute in a North Korean prison: subscribe to stackexchange, you'll love it.

This site had moderators bully bew users

This site had moderators bully new users and delete new users’s post and power abuses on various new users. The posted attractive language and racial discrimination about new users who have East Asian last name? Spreading hate language against Chinese even the new user’s questions are about American companies. Would give -1 star. I just deleted my account but still received spam emails from suspicious accounts. Please investigate this company’s toxic customer experience!

The moderators there are a bunch of Morons

The moderators there are a bunch of power tripping morons. Every single question I have asked this past year has been closed for some lame ass reason. I ask about a possible DDoS attack on my server, it gets closed because it's "opinion based". What opinion are you talking about? I'm asking a simple question! I post a very elaborate question about a coding problem I had. It gets closed because according to some moderator, it's a duplicate of a similar question posted 8(!) years ago!!! Yeah, nothing has changed in the past 8 years so discussions of new techniques must be nipped in the bud. I wish Stack Exchange would die because it is no longer helping people.

Using Stack Exchange was a negative experience and unwelcoming

I would like to report that using Stack Exchange has been a negative experience for me (at least on the Photography subdomain). I was told that my question was 'personal or short-lived as a result of changing markets', yet I can see many other topics where other people have asked similar questions. I cannot rephrase my question in any other way beyond what I have already done. The feedback given felt unnecessarily harsh and not welcoming in the slightest. I won't be using this site again based on my experiences.

Stack Exchange Moderator

I answered a question about how to find all of Adolf Hitler's speeches in the original German language, and the stack exchange moderator did not post it without offering a reason for refusing to post it. I said to call your US Senator and Rep and ask them to declassify all of them. They have them.

Total waste of time

I was on for 3 days and deleted the account. Every question I asked I was told you cannot have a discussion, just ask a question. I had to laugh because my questions had a ? at the end, and I even started to bold them. The moderators are awful with their responses and the site looks like is managed by a bunch of intellectually challenged millennials.

math.stackexchange: designed to support trolls

The forum looks well designed and functional.

When it comes to monitoring and moderator feedback, it fails miserably.

Flagging inappropriate activity works sparingly. I had noticed moderators themselves posting verbally abusive and dismissive language (against various users). Such activity was sometimes deleted but recurring actions from the same bad person has proven that there was no follow up on what action was taken to prevent bullying.

Opening an investigation is another can of worms. I have two investigations opened so far. One closed, another is in an inferred closed state. Neither investigation accounted or discounted the evidence; neither one issued a ruling in acknowledgement of the claim in dispute. A dialogue of deaf: one part claims something, the other part provides feedback in ignorance or disregard of the claim.

I believe that moderators themselves are trolling the forum because I couldn’t explain otherwise the bragging, the dismissive-elitist attitude and the vindictive following with need to punish. This comes conveniently since the moderators are also part of investigative panels. Imagine a person who behaved miserably; now this person has to investigate her own actions. Is it surprising that instead of investigating the claim such a moderator ends up looking to dismiss it?

I have experienced massive loss of (what they call) reputation in effect of opening my first investigation. I had days after days when answers I have provided-which were acknowledged as correct, disappeared. When I asked why, I was told that the poster of question might have deleted the entire thread including my answer. Or maybe the question was erased for being not compliant. Neither one of these reasons is valid, because: 1. Erasing the question should not affect the reputation gained with the answer; 2. Non-compliance is such a relative thing that when it comes to moderators providing the answer, the question is automatically compliant regardless of how silly a question is; 3. Is a matter of ownership: erasing the question can’t possibly erase the work done by another person to answer it-unless it was intended to hurt.

In the end reputation is not something provided in a web forum. It doesn’t matter to me how the trolls and wicked moderators schemed. What matters is this: a person has a genuine need for help. Another person offers this help. Then a troll comes by and uses moderator authority and elitist attitude with terrible interpersonal skills in order to prevent the exchange. This is what math.stackexchange resumes to be nowadays: a racket trolled by weird fellas who think of themselves as mathematicians. If they all were banned from the forum, there will still be questions and answers and a code of ethics and any misbehaving would be corrected. But they are not banned. They are protected from consequences of their misbehaving because they are “skilled mathematicians”, regardless to how unskilled they are at interpersonal level. But someone still has to pay for the wrongdoing, that’s when and how the innocent get hurt.

The entire form is designed to serve the ruling made by thugs. Don’t try to interact with them, to ask them to consider the evidence or to present the evidence in support of their ruling: won’t happen.

Worthless site run by

Worthless site run by "Friends"-watching "Seinfeld"-hating people and a feminist-produced homosexual faq. They have one guy who is a blatant ban violator, but he gets away with it. And he's a stupid old man. But me, who tries to ask questions gets in trouble. Avoid this site.

Do your homework before posting!

The stackexchange community consists of many properties; the most well known are probably stackoverflow (a site for programmers), askubuntu (a site to ask linux questions), superuser (a site for users of software products) and serverfault (a site for server administrators).

You ask a question and get an answer. As you use the site over time, you gain or lose reputation points.
The more reputation points you have, the more you can do (e.g. comment on someone else's question or answer). The questions are answered by other users of the site.

Here's the catch: these other users are, for the most part, experts in their field. Their time is valuable and they are not being paid to answer your question. If you ask a question, you better have your ducks in a line.

Specifically, you better have thoroughly researched your question first. If your question is easily answered by reading the manual, doing a Google search, or any other obvious choice for getting your question answered, or (and this is a big one) your question (or a very similar question) has already been asked and answered on the stackexchange property and you still go ahead and ask it, you will be slammed (your will lose reputation points).

If your question title is vague or otherwise "not actionable", like "Help, I can't get my program to compile," you will be slammed.

If it's obvious that you're asking a homework question, you will most likely be slammed. Some exceptions to this are you state your question is a homework question, but then validate why you're asking it (and for homework questions, that's generally pretty hard to do).

If you don't mention what steps you took to solve your own problem, you will be slammed.

Basically, it all boils down to this: The question you ask must be clear, concise and you must prove that the question has genuinely challenged you. You need to make the people answering your question think "yeah, this is a good question and I have the answer." If your question, in any way, wastes the expert's time, you will be slammed.

They even discourage thanking someone for answering your question (although you can and should mark the answer as accepted)... it generates an event that causes the expert to go back to the question to read the comment you left, only to discover that your comment (e.g. thanks for answering my question) adds nothing to the conversation.

All this can make the site appear hostile; and sadly, sometimes it is. You may ask a really good question and still be slammed; although it doesn't happen that often.

I have used a number of their sites for about 10 years now, so I'm pretty experienced with it and I have a fairly respectable reputation (as measured in points), and yet.... I was slammed today. A whopping -6 to my reputation before some moderator closed down my question. But when you really need an answer to a question... and it's not a simple question to answer, there is no substitute for the depth of expertise you will find on this site.

prenentious geeks websites

Some people really show off their skills. But many of them are pretentious geeks. They remove or downgrade people for building their motivation, because they didn't follow the rules like in college. I'm not a programmer and never will be. I'm just a guy whose scope is to help people by sharing his knowledge. I don't present myself as those people, as a "know-it-all" guy. Even if they are geniuses in their fields, they should learn to be modest.

Stackexchange is a joke

Stackexchange is a joke! I have been harassed multiple times by the same member on the Stackexchange Blender website. I kept flagging the harassment but nothing was done, and the flags were rejected. The person came back and harassed me again tonight. When I flagged his post, they deleted my account. I have had a support ticket open for a week with no response.
