Streetwise Self Defense has been making communities safer since 2014 by preventing sexual assault & rape through education, empowerment, and physical training. Streetwise also works with businesses and non-profit organizations by offering 60-90 minute "Brown Bag" training sessions on personal safety and situational awareness as they relate to commuting to and from work, as well as job related travel. While Streetwise facilitates female-only workshops/classes most of the time, these Brown Bag sessions for men and women include strategy, tactics, and a limited set of defensive technique demonstrations to address the highest risk scenarios for personnel in that industry or location. Because of Jay’s experiences and personal background, Streetwise classes/workshops focus on how to avoid, respond to, and/or defend oneself against the most common forms of sexual assault and gender-based violence. In the past 8 1/2 years, Jay Beecham has trained more than 1,500 individuals (primarily women, teens, & tweens) from the general public by registering for classes held at the YMCA or City Arts & Recreation community enrichment classes; and from private small groups from churches; from girl scout troops; from local high schools (students doing senior projects and also with PE Departments**); from private classes promoted by shoe or running apparel retailers; from running clubs with classes provided at their annual retreat; with groups from small businesses and departments within large corporations; from underserved and marginalized communities, and many others. In 2017 & 2018, Jay taught self-defense classes, and facilitated small group discussions at an acute sexual assault and domestic violence trauma/crisis intervention center. The center supported survivors of sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse, & sex trafficking. The longer-term goal of working with these groups was to help those survivors reclaim their self-confidence and sense of worth. Streetwise Self Defense provides classes/workshops targeting the following groups: -- Women’s Self Defense (age 15+) -- Mothers with their daughters (age 12-15) -- Women Who Travel (business or leisure) -- Women in Service Industry Jobs -- Women in Hospitality Industry -- Girls Night out parties -- Individuals and groups with specific/unique needs -- Women’s Business Groups -- Brown Bag training sessions for businesses (small and large business) -- Business/Corporate Team Building events (small and large business) ** Jay has worked with young boys/tweens/teens when working with high school PE Departments, and private Mommy & Me focused classes for mothers and their children (age 8-11). もっと見る
