Can I give them negative stars? -5

The absolute worst company. They do anything to get you to sign up but later if you have a problem oh well. System is down? Let us take a week to diagnose it, then two more weeks to schedule an appointment. The performance “guarantee” oh yeah they won’t pay that until TWO YEARS LATER. No means to escalate, the call center flat out refuses to escalate. And they still have to nerve to ask me to recommend Sunrun to my neighbors. The worst experience of my life. Going to be a very long 25 years. Avoid this scam at all costs.

During a recent interaction with Carlos, the supervisor of Sunrun, I was informed of a charge of $561 for a technician to inspect my solar signal panels. The communication breakdown and lack of transparency regarding this matter are concerning. It appears that Sunrun has a history of misrepresenting information to new customers, resulting in charges for services that were not properly explained. I would not recommend this company.

Annoying door to door solicitation

A Sunrun/Reliant representative rang my doorbell twice and knocked on my door twice in spite of a “No Solicitors” sign right next to my door. He looked right at the sign and disregarded it. He waited about four minutes on my walkway. When I opened my door to tell him no soliciting he denied being a solicitor, although he clearly was one. Super annoying and unwelcome. Both my house and my neighborhood have clear signs posted. I googled the company and see that they are under investigation by the Texas Attorney General’s office. Also: I already have solar panels.

AVOID at any CO$T. When you hear Sunrun, make sure you run fastest you can.

This has been, without question, the worst experience I’ve ever had with any company. After installing my solar system, they failed to inform me for nearly three months that it wasn’t producing any electricity at all. During that entire period, I continued paying Sunrun the agreed monthly fee, completely unaware that the system wasn’t working. On top of that, I was also hit with extremely high utility bills about three times my normal amount because I was still fully dependent on grid electricity.

As a result, I ended up paying significantly more than I ever expected. The whole purpose of switching to solar was to reduce my utility costs, but instead, I lost what would have been about eight months’ worth of savings in just those three months. It completely defeats the purpose of going solar in the first place.

To make matters worse, their customer service has been incredibly frustrating to deal with. Communication is poor, responses are slow, and there seems to be little accountability for such a major oversight. Every attempt to resolve the issue has felt like an uphill battle, with little urgency shown despite the financial impact on me.

Given this experience, I would strongly urge Costco to reconsider or avoid partnerships with companies like this. Customers trust Costco to stand behind the services it promotes and associating with a company that delivers such poor performance, and support reflects badly on that trust. Overall, this experience has been both financially and emotionally draining, and I would strongly caution others to think twice before choosing Sunrun.

Hired 2 times, both experiences Excellent!

My experience with Sunrun has been excellent, both the first and second times I committed to a leasing program. When our initial set-up wasn't enough for our usage, I opted for adding to the system and the service was exceptional both times. The only thing to complain about was the amount of time it took before our system was completely up and running, but that was a delay due to PG&E providing the necessary upgrades in my neighborhood.

Stay Away from Sunrun – Terrible Service and Support

If you are considering Sunrun for your solar energy needs, my strongest advice is to look elsewhere. While the initial sales pitch might be polished, the actual experience as a customer—specifically regarding technical support and customer service—is nothing short of a nightmare.
Why You Should Avoid Sunrun:
• Abysmal Customer Service: Getting a hold of a human being who can help is an exhausting task. You will likely find yourself stuck in endless phone loops.
• Poor Technical Support: When your system inevitably has an issue, do not expect a quick fix. Their technical team is slow to respond, and scheduling a technician can take several days. Even when they do show up, the quality of the repair work is often subpar.
• Lack of Accountability: Once the panels are on your roof, Sunrun seems to lose all interest in your satisfaction. They are quick to collect payments but incredibly slow to honor their service commitments or warranties.
• Broken Promises: The "peace of mind" they sell you during the consultation is non-existent. You are left managing a complex system with zero reliable support from the company that installed it.
Final Verdict: Under no circumstances should you consider this company. Save yourself the stress, the money, and the technical headaches. There are plenty of other solar providers who value their customers and maintain their equipment properly.
Avoid Sunrun at all costs.

Warning, Sunrun will try to give you the runaround

Since my system was installed, my experience with Sunrun has been defined by repeated system failures, dismissive customer service, and an ongoing inability to deliver the solar performance I was promised.

Sunrun designed and installed a 40‑panel system based on my prior 12 months of electricity usage. Immediately after installation, the system underperformed. When I contacted customer service, I was repeatedly spoken to in a condescending manner and told I “didn’t understand how solar works.” It wasn’t until I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau that Sunrun finally sent a technician. That technician discovered the inverters had been installed incorrectly. After the correction, the system briefly appeared to function properly.

Soon after, I noticed a 50% drop in energy production. Once again, customer service dismissed my concerns until I filed another BBB complaint. When a technician finally arrived, they found that half of my panels were not working and needed replacement.

At the beginning of this year, I experienced yet another production drop—this time around 25%. The same pattern followed: Sunrun dismissed my concerns until I filed a third BBB complaint. The technician who came out confirmed that 10 panels had malfunctioned and required repair. I was told to schedule service, but the earliest available appointment was more than 120 days out. Only after escalating through my case worker was I able to get an installation partner to visit. They repaired 9 of the 10 panels and stated they would need to return to fix the final one.

During that visit, the technician also raised a serious concern: Sunrun may have installed the wrong inverters. According to him, my system should generate approximately 14.5 kWh during peak periods, which would require two 7000 kWh inverters—not the two 5000 kWh inverters Sunrun installed. He believes this mismatch is causing the repeated panel failures.

It has now been a week since that discovery, and I still have no permanent solution from Sunrun. My system remains partially unrepaired, and despite having a “monster” system, I continue to pay the electric company because Sunrun’s installation has never performed as promised.

Based on the pattern of oversizing the system, installing incorrect equipment, and repeatedly dismissing legitimate performance concerns, I believe Sunrun knowingly installed an improperly configured system that could meet contractual guarantees on paper while failing to deliver real‑world performance. The result has been ongoing system failures, financial loss, and an unacceptable burden placed on me as the customer.

We have had our system for 4 years now…

We have had our system for 4 years now and it has been offline more than it has produced. It brakes. We wait for someone to come out and repair it. Months go by its fixed. I month later its broken again. Rinse and repeat. My roof leaks in 8 different spots and my panels over my porch broke loose in a thunderstorm six months ago and they still haven't sent someone out to look at them let alone fix them. A special shout out to Gabriel who has had our account for months now and is part of a "solutions team" who has done nothing. Not one phone call and a few emails to tell us she's "working"on the problem. I cant believe that a "Solutions Team" cannot manage to get someone out to my house, to fix my solar panels, that are in danger of blowing off, for the last six months! ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE AND WORST COMPANY EVER!!!

Promised Electric Bill Elimination – Now Paying Two Bills– Facing Higher Costs Instead

In April 2024, my husband and I agreed to install solar panels through the Sunrun program promoted inside Costco. During the sales presentation, we were assured that our electric bill would essentially be eliminated and replaced with a payment of about $144 per month. We were also told that if the system produced excess energy, we could even receive credits from FPL.

Based on those representations, we agreed to move forward with the installation. We later added additional panels after being told that the system would fully cover our electricity usage.

Unfortunately, that has not been our experience.

Instead, we are now paying both the Sunrun monthly payment and still receiving an FPL electric bill. In many months, our total energy cost is higher than before installing solar.

After raising these concerns with Sunrun and attempting for many months to resolve the issue directly with the company, we were recently told that purchasing an additional battery system costing more than $10,000 might help improve the situation. This option was never mentioned during the original sales process.

We trusted the Costco program and the representations made during the sales process, so this situation has been very disappointing.

Because we have been unable to resolve this directly with the company, the matter has now been escalated to the Florida Attorney General’s Office. Recently, an attorney from the Federal Trade Commission also contacted me to gather more information regarding my complaint.

I am sharing our experience so that other consumers carefully review all details before entering into a long-term solar agreement.

I would not recommend Sunrun to any…

I would not recommend Sunrun to any homeowner.

They sized my system based on my previous two-bedroom home, even though I now live in a six-bedroom, three-bathroom house. The panels do NOT produce enough energy to cover our usage. I pay about $255/month for solar and still receive an additional bill from Southern California Edison for nearly $200 because the system falls short.

During installation, their technicians damaged my roof, which caused rain to leak through my ceiling. After multiple calls and temporary patches, I still had damage. They offered me only $500 for ceiling repairs — not enough to cover the actual cost — and closed my case after telling me to take my time getting quotes. I now feel pressured to accept an amount that doesn’t fix the damage they caused.

I was also not clearly informed that two large batteries would be installed visibly on the side of my home.

On top of that, their contract locks you in, and getting out of it requires paying a large amount of money. As a homeowner, you feel trapped.

This has been a stressful and disappointing experience. Please do your research carefully before signing with Sunrun.

Customers aren't Important

Our system stopped operating due to a mechanical issue. Our contract includes monitoring services by Sunrun, and according to their own staff, their system detected the issue in June 2025. A case file was opened but never assigned to anyone.

Because the issue was not addressed, the system shut down completely in August. I only discovered the problem in December when I checked my Edison true-up bill (our cycle runs August–July). The bill was extremely high, more than I’ve ever paid in an entire year.

When I contacted Sunrun, a case manager found the original June notification. They scheduled repairs (which took about a month), and I was told to contact billing afterward to request compensation. It is now March 2, 2026. It took two technician visits to get the system running again, and I have been paying high Edison Tier 2 (or higher) rates for six months without solar production.

Sunrun’s compensation offer was a $75 credit and waiving the repair fee for their own system’s mechanical failure. When I questioned why monitoring did not prevent this, I was told that monitoring is only a convenience and that I should be checking the app daily myself. Because I did not notify them sooner, they claim they are not obligated to compensate me, citing contract language that production is not guaranteed.

To be fair, I did not pay Sunrun during the months the system wasn’t generating. However, I incurred significantly higher SCE electricity charges as a result. I accept responsibility for not noticing sooner, but having a monitoring service in my contract, only to be told it’s essentially my responsibility to monitor daily, feels misleading and demonstrates poor customer service.

Run Far Away from Sunrun

Literally everything about Sunrun is the worst. Their sales rep lied to us from the start about how long the process would take, to get us to sign up. Their activation specialist and project manager don't do anything to move your project along at all: they don't visit the site, they aren't proactive with the cities for permit issues, they just sit at home and email every few weeks. They don't communicate with you for months at a time about what is happening. Their incompetence makes you go to the city yourself to try to move the project along. Then, when you complain, their bosses are extremely arrogant, condescending, and rude to you. I will be holding a 25 year grudge against this company and will be quitting working with them the day our plan runs out, we just don't have the money to cancel early right now otherwise I would do that. I strongly recommend anyone that sees this to never work with Sunrun and find any other company to go through for solar. Most companies don't care about their customers anymore, but this company is the king of doesn't care about their customers. I will never have a worse customer service experience with any other company, there's no chance.

Do not use sunrun for solar services

Do not use sunrun for solar services. They do not honor the terms of their warranty. They destroyed my roof with a faulty installation and are fighting every step of the way to compensate me. They have continuously lied about pre-existing damage that was never mentioned at the pre installation site survey. Their customer service reps will ignore all communication for weeks at a time. Complete scam artists who will not give a shit about you the second you sign a contract.

DO NOT BUY/LEASE SUNRUN SOLAR

I have been waiting over 7 months for Sunrun to come out and fix the problem with my original system installation. Meanwhile, I am now being double-charged by Sunrun and Duke because the system is not producing the amount originally promised. Customer service is horrible! Everybody blames each other, and nothing ever gets resolved. I am still waiting for a supposed escalated ticket from upper management to address the ineffectiveness of our system after 3 runarounds. I would NOT recommend this company at all!!!

Terrible Customer Service

Customer service run a around. Have a battery problem. They have sent people out 4 times. Each time tech informs me that battery will fault again, and battery manufacturer will not authorize replacement. People at Sunrun give me the runaround. Very, very dissatisfied. Do not to business with them. Perhaps someone with the ability to resolve this mess will provide contact information.

⚠️ Consumer Warning

⚠️ Consumer Warning: Do NOT Do Business with Sunrun Solar Panels
I am sharing my experience to warn other homeowners before they make the mistake I did by doing business with Sunrun Solar.
Sunrun sales representatives approached me with promises of major energy savings and presented their solar program as a smart, low-risk decision. Based on what was explained to me at the time, I believed the system would lower my monthly costs and be beneficial long-term.
That was not the reality.
After installation, I discovered that:
• The savings were not as represented
• Key financial and performance details were not clearly explained
• I later realized the agreement was far more restrictive than presented
When I raised concerns and requested that the solar panels be removed from my property, Sunrun refused. Despite the system not meeting expectations and the sales process being misleading, they would not remove the panels from my roof.
I now feel trapped in a contract that I would never have agreed to if the full truth had been disclosed upfront. The panels remain on my property against my wishes, limiting my control over my own home.
Why I strongly do NOT recommend Sunrun:
• Misleading sales practices
• Lack of transparency
• No reasonable exit when the system fails expectations
• Refusal to remove equipment from private property
• Extremely stressful and frustrating customer experience
My advice to others:
⚠️ Do NOT sign anything without fully understanding the long-term consequences
⚠️ Do NOT rely on verbal promises
⚠️ Get legal advice before signing any Sunrun agreement
If you are considering solar, I strongly recommend researching other companies and reading independent consumer reviews before making a decision.
I regret trusting Sunrun and would never recommend them to anyone.

This is the worst run company I have…

This is the worst run company I have ever encountered. I have paid over $1,300 in electricity charges in the past 4 years and I haven't had one solar panel on my roof in that time. I did a reconstruction of my roof and in 4 years they still haven't redesigned my system. They have even sent guys over to re-install my panels and when they showed up they realized the plans they have don't match my house, and better yet they didn't even have the panels to put up as they thought they were sitting in my backyard. The company is garbage and I can't get anyone to make any progress on redesigning my systems nor refund me my $1,300+ that I have paid. Customer service is horrible as I was just told that in the time I explained my case she could have sent me over to technical support because I explained how I didn't want to be hold for another 1/2 hour. The most inept, poorly run company I have ever encountered. It is almost comical what a piece of s**t this company is.
