The Film Safe is an Independent Film Developing Lab based in Southampton, UK. It is run by Hope and Jack, the founders of the company in 2021. Our services include: Film developing of C41 and Black and White 35mm and 120 film, scanning at low, medium, high JPEG and high TIFF file sizes on professional Noritsu scanners, printing of 6x4 images on a professional DNP printer and light retouching of images to give you the best possible images back. We also sell a small selection of 35mm films both colour and black and white and a range of merchandise including T-Shirts, stickers, caps and totes. As a lab, we understand that it is not the most eco-friendly service but we take every measure we can to make our services as eco-friendly as possible including eco assured packaging, getting our chemicals removed safely, recycling packaging and giving back 3% to an eco conscious charity - Coral Gardeners alongside the other incredible charties, CALM and Alzheimers Research UK. We work on a 3 day turnaround for colour films and a 5 day turnaround for black and white films and are constantly looking at ways of expanding and improving our services. We wanted to make a lab that was friendly and approachable for the film community, offering advice and support for all things film related. We run a Discord channel where we can be contacted at any time of the day as well as a separate support email to help filter our emails.

A gem of a find
It all started with a short video clip on a local tv news channel - Hope and Jack being interviewed about the revival of film photography. A quick peek at the website gave me the confidence to send them a finished roll of film to be developed and scanned. Disappointed? No way!! The results were better than I had expected, considering I haven't created film photographs (don't like the term shooting, there's enough of that going on for other reasons) for at least 25+years. From delivery, to processing to uploading of images the process was seamless and the communication excellent. Would I recommend The Film Safe? Most definitely yes. Thank you Hope and Jack for keeping the art of film photography alive.
