This tool stole over $100 from me in just two days.

Honestly, as someone who works with AI and dev tools daily, I expected way better from Trae. I signed up for the 14-day free trial to test it out. I set a reminder to cancel, but they actually charged my card 10 minutes before the trial officially expired.

Since that sneaky charge went through, my dashboard shows exactly 0 activity—I haven't touched their Pro features at all.

I immediately emailed support with screenshots proving the premature charge and my zero usage, asking for a simple refund. It's been days, and I’ve been completely ghosted. No reply, no explanation, nothing.

It’s a huge red flag when a tech company relies on sneaky billing tricks and non-existent customer service. I'm already filing a chargeback with my bank. Save your time and money, avoid their "free trial" trap.

Changed the condition of my annual plan from 600 requests per month to defacto 5 (with the best models). So the conditions were prepaid money collected, but then worsen significantly. Not a good way to keep a deal.

I am very disappointed with my experience using Trae.ai.

On March 23, 2026, I paid for the Pro plan using DANA, and the payment was successfully deducted from my account. However, my account has still not been upgraded and remains in Free status.

On the same day, I contacted their support team via email and provided all the required details, including my transaction ID and proof of payment. Unfortunately, it has now been more than 7 days and I have not received any response at all.

This is very concerning because I have already completed the payment, but the service has not been delivered. The lack of response from support makes the situation even worse.

I hope Trae.ai can resolve this issue as soon as possible by either activating my Pro subscription or issuing a full refund.

Until now, this has been a very frustrating experience.

pure scam. i spend a lot of money trying to finish my project and the ai tool doenst work as expected its always messing the whole code. it takes more then one 1usd per task to complete and when it mess the code the you pay a lot of credits to fix it its pure scam better avoid it

Complete trash, after I paid for my plan a day later they removed all the models that were actually good

Honestly, it’s more powerful than Cursor and way cheaper. The results are nearly the same. If you’re looking for a Cursor alternative, this is the best one I’ve found. Love Trae.ai.

THIS AI IS SO BAD IT MAKES ME WANNA KILL MYSELF. where do I even start…its so incompetent , you could spend an hour going back and forth with it trying to get it to do the simplest of tasks(like changing increasing an images height by 10px). Even on the pro plan you still
wait in queues at times, it’s terrible at debugging and it’s extremely slow. the 2 star trust pilot rating is here for a reason. I strongly advice against using this ide, I want to like it but it’s slowed down my work
so much and it even changes things you did not ask for. it rewrites my work
and changes my animations and images when all I ask it to do is change a font color. It’s horrible, Trae ai please fix this or stick to tik tok, for the sake of my own sanity because this tool has such potential but it’s so incompetent and slow.

I've found Trae AI to be significantly slower and less reliable than other AI assistants. Its key issues include a lack of consistent task focus, misinterpretation of commands, and an inefficient use of user resources. For instance, a project to convert a few Alpine.js files to HTMX took two days and consumed over 900 API requests, only to deliver broken code that disrupted the existing project. While it might be acceptable for very small academic exercises, its inefficiency and unpredictability make it unsuitable for any substantive development work. I cannot recommend it for practical use. It just kept on talking to itself everytime it execute a small task.

how can every time you restart IDE all agent changes never get saved after literally accepting? like this is dangerous, you will loose all your work after restart.

It was good until It kept crashing projects by not saving like what kind of issues is that?

Even when saving, it resets changes you already aproved.

Trae CAN write code, but there is one MAJOR problem. It does things on its own. It changes code without your consent and without you asking for it.

It's just like a stubborn coder who is doing its own thing. Then it apologizes hundreds of times, and the next thing is that it's doing it again.

Trae calls it "optimizing". But it is breaking code by doing things I did not ask for.

As long as this Trae AI is not listening to what you tell it to do, and it's just doing its own thing, it is very dangerous, time wasting and absolutely worthless.

For example, I have a pine script trading indicator for TradingView. It generates trade signals. I asked Trae to add an alert function to it, so that I can get an audio alert on a trade signal.

It added this function, but it ALSO changed code in the trading logic! It did not ask, nor say anything about this. When I asked why it did that, it said that it "optimized" the code.

I found out because the resulting code had syntax errors. Then I discovered what it actually did.

If I wouldn't had noticed this and there weren't any syntax errors, I would have worked with an altered trading indicator. That could have lead to major trading losses.

So be EXTREMELY careful with this highly dangerous Chinese AI.

I quit my subscription and removed Trae from my computer.

Good interface but a waste of time, it 's inconsistent.

A lot of names of models but nothing works good, it's like the auto mode in cursor, useless.

Trae pro doesn’t resolve my problems in my projects and when i tried cursor free it was so much better, cursor resolved the problem and with the free, so I don’t really recommend trae

Major Concern: Misleading Claude 4 Claims
The most significant problem is that Trae advertises "Claude 4" integration, but after thorough testing and cross-referencing with official Anthropic sources, it's clear they're actually using Claude 3.5 Sonnet (claude-3-5-sonnet-20241022). When I compared responses with:

The quality difference was immediately apparent. Trae's "Claude 4" lacks the standardized tools and capabilities that actual Claude Sonnet 4 provides. This isn't a minor version discrepancy - it's a fundamental misrepresentation of their core AI offering. What makes this particularly frustrating is that the API pricing for both models is identical, so there's no cost justification for this deception.
Platform Support Issues
Trae lacks native Linux support, which is a significant limitation for many developers. Even more problematic is the poor WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) integration - attempts to connect consistently fail with generic error messages that provide no useful debugging information. For developers working in Linux environments or using WSL, this makes the tool largely unusable.
IDE Integration Falls Short
For a product marketed as an AI IDE, basic functionality is missing:

The AI cannot see linter errors, which is essential for code development
This leads to the AI repeatedly generating code with errors
Results in wasted prompts and constant copy-pasting to provide error context

Overly Aggressive Behavior
The AI consistently ignores explicit user instructions, particularly around development server management. Despite multiple attempts to instruct it not to start Next.js dev servers (through user prompts, agent settings, and direct requests), it continues to do so forcefully.
Better Alternatives Exist
While Trae positions itself as a premium AI IDE, Cursor remains a superior product with better integration and reliability. However, the best experience I've found is using Claude Code directly - it provides access to actual Claude Sonnet 4 with proper tool integration and follows instructions as expected.
Bottom Line
While the concept of an AI-powered IDE is appealing, Trae's execution is undermined by misleading marketing claims, platform compatibility issues, and fundamental integration problems. The misrepresentation of the Claude model version is particularly concerning and damages trust in the platform. Until these core issues are addressed, I cannot recommend this tool.
